The victim’s 42-year-old brother, Benjamin Oyem, who was also sleeping in the same room, was also burnt and died in the process.
According to the report, Nkem, 45, was burnt severely when his wife allegedly set fire to items of clothing soaked in kerosene and threw them into the room where he was with his brother, Oyem.
The woman was said to have locked the door afterwards.
Confirming the incident to newsmen at the weekend, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Juliana Obeng, said the incident occurred in a house at Ashaiman Lebanon Zone Two in Ghana on November 17.
The PPRO said the suspect, before carrying out the act, allegedly took her three children, all females aged four, seven and nine, from the room in which they were sleeping with their father and their uncle.
“Neighbours who saw the fire managed to rescue the two brothers who had sustained severe degrees of burns and quickly rushed them to the Tema General Hospital.
“Oyem being transferred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for further treatment but he gave up the ghost on the way.
“On hearing that her brother-in-law had died, the suspect collapsed but has since been resuscitated,” the PPRO said, adding that the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Tema General Hospital mortuary and the victim, who is in a coma is currently battling survival at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
