New Lease Of Life For Ibrahim WaziriI Community As MTN Foundation Begins Installation Of Borehole

Water is just as important as the air we breathe. It is one of the most important substances on earth that we need to survive.

Apart from drinking it to survive, people have many other uses for water. These include: cooking, bathing, keeping houses and communities clean among others.

What is important about the water we use is that it must be clean for us to live healthy. Unclean water on the other hand can cause many types of diarrheal diseases, including Cholera, and other serious illnesses such as Guinea worm disease, Typhoid, and Dysentery.

Most communities across the country are still faced with the challenges of accessing portable water. In some communities, people travel far distance to get water from streams. This lack of access to portable water exposes them to diseases caused by use of contaminated water. This was the situation of Ibrahim Waziri community in Yobe State before the advent of installation of a 650ft borehole in the community.

Having been deprived of portable water for years, the joy and gratitude on the face of the community dwellers was well understood as they received the news of the borehole with so much excitement and relief.

The borehole donated by the MTN Foundation under its ‘What Can We Do Together’ initiative couldn’t have come at a more auspicious time. According to the Chief Imam of the community Mallam Aliyu Musa, “This borehole is timely and will meet the need of having access to clean water for our domestic uses. It came at the most needed time.”

In September 2015, The MTN Foundation launched an initiative called ‘What Can We Do Together’ to give Nigerians the opportunity to nominate their community to receive a project it needs. Under the second phase of the initiative, a call was made for Nigerians to nominate 200 communities to benefit from 200 projects varying from Transformers, Boreholes, School Furniture and Medical Equipment supply to Primary Health Care Centers.

Across Nigeria, a total of 200 communities were selected from a pool of over 80,000 nominations following a rigorous screening process. Through this process, 20 communities were selected to receive 500KVA transformers, 80 schools to receive sets of school furniture, 80 primary health care centres to receive modern medical equipment and another 20 communities are to receive 650ft water boreholes.

At the moment, work is ongoing for the installations and deliveries of the projects at the various beneficiary communities.

Congratulations to Ibrahim Waziri Community and the rest of the selected communities.

  5. This report must be posted by someone from MTN foundation.I am a borehole specialist but i can foresee a problem on this project in a short time. The depth of the drilling is suppose to be 650ft.The type of the rig deployed doesn't have capability to drill to this depth. You are talking of over 200m depth.Does the rig have a mud pump that can pump mud from this depth?MTN should watch out or else it would become abandon project. There are many scammers in borehole business, there is no point in raising people's hope and dash it when it matter most.I want an update on this project to prove me wrong.
