Omugwo Chronicles - 53

We have an entry for the Omugwo Chronicles...Yaaay!!!

Hi Stella,

I visited your blog for the first time and i was so happy, particularly with the Omugwo chronicles page....amazing. It prompted me to share mine as well.

I got pregnant out of wedlock to the love of my life. Anyway, when i discovered i was pregnant i almost fainted!

I was confused, angry just name every emotion you could imagine. I called bros and he was talking jargon...lol he was as confused as i was, as we were still hoping for a job.

I ran away from home because i was an example to not just to my family but neighbors, family friends, church .....it was like i had committed an unforgivable sin. Bros told his family and they told me to come over and stay with them. All this happened without my father's knowledge because I was his pride and all.

It took me three months to tell my dad about it. He was mad at me and abandoned me at the time. I was therefore at the mercy of my in laws who were exceptionally nice, loving accommodating and understanding. They always encouraged me not to think of abortion as God had his reasons for allowing it.

The nine months period was excruciatingly difficult. I could not eat well, i was always in deep thoughts, could not associate with others, depressed just name it. The doctor always complained about my B.P and weight loss. Honestly if not for my In-laws, Husband and good friends i do not know what would have happened to me.

Anyway, I gave birth to a handsome boy after being induced twice. It was hell but i gave birth naturally. With no family around, my MIL took over, but she is not your type of MIL to stay with you and all. My baby had complications due to the whole pregnancy ordeal so we were in the hospital for a week. He had jaundice, fever, colic e.t.c. My husband took the responsibility of bathing me and cooking my meals (my husband sha....mwaah!)

To the omugwo proper, my MIL said she was going to bathe my baby with palm oil and i almost went mad whaat! but i had to allow it for peace to reign. I was not comfortable with the way she bathe my baby so after a week i told her i wanted to try and bathe him so well she was amazed. (I learnt from my mama).

After that she stopped bathing my baby. And had to leave us. When she was leaving, we bought her a few things and she prayed for us. I did everything myself and made mistakes and learnt from them. He would be two soon and he is as healthy as a horse!

It wasn't easy but it was an experience!

Na wah!!!...Congrats though, your boy is so fine!!!

Is this chronicle about bathing your baby or about your pregnancy outside wedlock? Did u make up with your father and family? Was there any friction between you and MIL. This chronicle is quite uneventful.

It's normal to bath d baby with palm oil, especially if u are yoruba,it's just to remove dirts , my mum did d same for my kids.

Bathing a new born with Palm oil isn't a bad idea my dear. You know newborns have somehow slippery skin, the oil will wash that away so that when you are bathing the baby subsequently it won't feel like he or she is slimy. Nice in-laws you've got

It is good to use palm oil on baby first time before normal bath, the baby will not be associated with body odor in future, it is a good thing i learned from my yoruba Neighbors. Congrats to your bundle of joy... please go and make up with your parent
