Saraki indicates plan to reshuffle Senate committees

Senate President, Bukola Saraki has hinted of plan to reshuffle the 68 Senate standing Committees.
He gave the indication during plenary session on Friday.

Saraki was responding to observation by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.

The DSP had lamented the composition of some standing committees.

Ekweremadu, while commenting on consideration of report of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND, over the Federal University of Maritime Studies Bill, said the membership of committees needed to be reviewed.

He raised observation after the chairman of the committee, Senator Barau Jibrin (APC, Kano) presented the report.

Ekweremadu said only 12 out of the 21 members of the tertiary institutions committee signed it.

His words: “It is unusual, the number of senators, 21, that are in the tertiary institutions committee.

“It is unhealthy that many senators will be in many committees that would make it difficult for them to attend meetings”.

Reacting, Saraki agreed with his deputy’s position.

“I agree with you in entirety. You will recall that at the leadership we have discussed it.

“We must clean it up and this must be done before we go for our recess”, the former Kwara governor declared.
