Edo and Benue states have recently introduced similar directives.
In Benue State, a memo addressed to private schools, mission schools, education stakeholders, parents, and guidance counselors outlined the following:
Textbooks: The use of restricted, customized educational materials is banned. Schools are directed to revert to the traditional practice of senior students or pupils passing down textbooks to those in lower classes.
Extra-Mural Classes: Compulsory extra-mural classes are prohibited unless specifically requested by parents.

A school owner on my whatsapp has been crashing out after Imo stateade the announcement. Her husband supplies books to many schools within Nasarawa state. Let me forward this to her 🤣

ReplyDeleteI have bought close to thousands of textbooks even paying for compulsory end of session parties. We are tired of this in Lagos state
A similar directive may come to Lagos state soon, afterall the 'several' three states that have given such directives are APC-governed states like Lagos.

ReplyDeleteThey make the extra mural compulsory, they adjust the time table for the day and include some subjects into the extra mural class time there by making it compulsory

ReplyDeleteThey will simply introduce separate workbooks for each subject. You will then have to buy different workbooks for each child you have. So we are back to square one.
DeleteBook producers have nothing to worry about. Instead, we have just found a way to give them more money.
Let the entire states and the FCT adopt this. Kudos.

ReplyDeleteGoing forward, book publishing houses will now create a separate workbook for each subject. So you will buy textbook and still buy workbook. So have you saved money? No, your costs have doubled.
We don't think things through in this country. Edo state governor that can't add 1 plus 1 is the one bringing policy and others are jumping in.
Yes this will happen with the first child to use the book. Subsequently when that child hands down the textbook to the younger one, only workbooks will be gotten for that younger one
DeleteThis is a good development that should be applied at the national level. There are still schools that are considerate. A big kudos to Alljoy Montessori School Idimu Lagos! They have been impacting knowledge without draining parents. I am a satisfied parent.
ReplyDeleteBV Tuleyy, you can then see that the policy will not achieve much. By introducing workbooks, we are back to square one. Head or tails the book publishing houses and the schools themselves will not lose.

ReplyDeleteAnything the govt jumps and bans quickly, they have no stake in, it means big men never enter publishing business, na why dey were able to quickly do this. Other things that need their immediate action like this, but becos na dem get the businesses, dem never quickly ban am.

You keep buying text books all the times, parents you people have done enough. Is time to have some rest from private school owners, they will not emulate good things but only things that will cause pains to people.
