In a video response to a viral comment accusing Nollywood of ruining marriages through on-screen intimacy, Biodun made it clear that an actor’s marriage is not the producer’s responsibility. “That responsibility lies with the actor who chose this profession and the spouse who accepted it,” she said. “My job is to protect actors on set and present them respectfully to the audience, not to salvage their home.”
Biodun explained that intimate scenes are discussed with actors before filming. Some actors decline kissing roles for personal or religious reasons, and she works around it. Others are comfortable with it. She stressed that believability and chemistry are part of storytelling, and while she often limits romance to keep films family-friendly, she will include kissing when the script demands it.
She also pushed back on comparisons to Hollywood, noting that Nollywood’s fast “shoot and go” production style doesn’t allow time for off-screen chemistry to develop. “There’s no time for feelings to linger,” she said. “We’re already planning the next film.”
She says that her priority has always been professionalism on set and ensuring actors are treated with respect, not interfering in their personal lives.
