Tinubu said he was embarrassed not by the EFCC’s mandate, but by the timing of the action, noting that every move by a federal institution is often attributed to him even when he has no prior knowledge. He reiterated that since assuming office, he has consistently allowed anti‑corruption and law enforcement agencies to operate independently and without political interference.
The President stated that although he is yet to be fully briefed on the circumstances that led the EFCC to seek the court order, the timing is inappropriate because Osun State is only days away from its gubernatorial election. He stressed that nothing should create the impression that the EFCC or any federal agency is being used to influence the electoral process.
Tinubu said he is duty‑bound to intervene in order to preserve public confidence and protect the integrity and fairness of Nigeria’s democratic system. He therefore directed the EFCC to return to court, vacate the order, and discontinue any action taken against the Osun State Government in relation to the frozen accounts.
He concluded with: “Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
There’s no court order in the first place. This administration should stop fooling themselves, thinking we’re all fools. 10 days to the Osun election, they froze the state account just to frustrate the governor they’re doing everything to make sure doesn’t win.
ReplyDeleteThey played the exact same card in Edo State during the build-up to the election. EFCC only freezes opposition state accounts, and that alone calls for questioning. What power does the President have to order EFCC to block and unblock a state account when he's not the court? Don’t forget, Osun State LG allocations have been seized for months now just to cripple the governor. Yet the governor is still working and paying salaries. The same Bola Tinubu who cried injustice when President Obasanjo did the same to him as Lagos governor, is now towing the same path against Adeleke. This is the typical Nigerian character.
I’ve stayed away from APC’s dirty politics for a while, but things like this need to be put on record. I’m not against EFCC freezing accounts, but why is it always a pattern with opposition states, and always in election week?
