Memo: To The High Commission Of The Federal Republic Of Nigeria,Ottawa Canada

This Memo was written after an article was published online stating that IMMIGRATION DETAINEES IN LINDSAY JAIL STAGE PROTEST AND HUNGER STRIKE...majority of the detainees are Nigerians being held against their will and in isolation from help.

Memo: To the High Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ottawa Canada

To whom it may concern,
I write this letter, as a mother, father, brother, sister, friend, a member of humanity and most of all as a fellow Nigerian.  I ask and beg for the Nigerian Embassy, The High Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and anyone who has the power to help, to do so and intervene on behalf of all the Nigerian men that are being held in detention by immigration/Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) in Lindsay, Ontario.

As I write this letter there are 200 Men detained by CBSA- the majority of them are Nigerian-, in their attempt to deport them for various reasons. The Canadian government i.e Immigration & CBSA have locked these men up not for any criminal matter but for immigration purposes and have kept them with dangerous offenders in a Correctional Center like common criminals.
These men were deceived into coming for interviews, picked up by the police, immigration and many more governmental agencies and detained for deportation. A number of these men have been in Canada for a very long time, some for even more than 10 years; they were not even given a date to leave Canada or any chance to prepare themselves, gather belongings and arrange with family before being grabbed off the streets and thrown in jail.

Due to this mass round up by immigration and the lack of space, these Nigerian men were taken very far from family, lawyers and any means of support and have no to minimal communication with immigration officials regarding their case and placed in a correctional jail/center where they have no regard for human life. My Nigerian brothers are being treated like animals, they are not being given any real food, personal care items such as soap etc that are free and are being frequently locked down for days on end due to short staff.

In response to these cruel treatments, many Nigerians in custody are in protest and hunger strike in order to speak with immigration officials, to have change and so that people can know what is going on by the hands of CBSA.

THIS IS THE FATE OF OUR NIGERIAN PEOPLE. THEY ARE BEING ISOLATED AND HAVE NO SUPPORT, SO THAT CBSA CAN DO WITH THEM AS THEY PLEASE WITHOUT JUSTIFICATION. THE OWNERS OF THESE PRIVATE JAILS ARE MAKING MONEY FROM IMMIGRATION/CBSA TO LOCK UP OUR PEOPLE. THEY GAIN ON OUR MISERY. NIGERIA PLEASE HELP THESE MEN.  CONTACT:   FREEDOM FOR NIGERIANS AT freedom_fornigerians@hotmail.ca

They are lying to these men by giving fake flight itineraries. Please do not issue any travelling documents without any consent of these men. They are not being given any chance to prepare. They should have the right to decide to leave on their own after exhausting all legal means.

*Please if you know anyone who can help these Nigerians, please help reach out and do so

  2. The writer is funny, you are living in someone else's country illegally, and you are talking about having rights, lol. Oga, you have no rights unless you are a legal alien or citizen. They better leave "jejely" before they are implicated in crimes they didn't commit, we are talking oyinbo people here, they are wicked oh. A word is enough for the wise.

  4. mr writer of article,i honestly feel for them and i can imagine the psychological state they are in right now.however it is not just canada,Uk is even worse with africans being kept detention for upwards of 3-4 years
Have the canadian immigration started lurking in train stations, african churches, inside buses to randomly point to you and ask for your immigration status?
if not its much better for you guys than those in UK.in the end i really dont blame them but the inaction and compliance of the Nigerian Government and also the dire situation in naija if not why would anyone elect to sleep in a detention centre-prison rather than returning back home to their friends and family? i am not in people's shoes so i dont know what each individual are facing back home hence its a lot difficult for me to advice anyone to go back home.
i pray they are sorted and the lord's will be done o

  7. The major problem with our foreign mission is having Politicians as Ambassadors. Politicians who know nothing in regards to diplomacy. The case of the Nigerian embassy in Canada is a complete shame and also a pity for the Nigerians who have the embassy there to serve them. This kind of non nonchalant attitude by Nigerian diplomats in foreign missions is so common. They are just diplomats to make money and not to serve. Get the Nigerian government's money for their rents, children's tuition, flight expenses, among others. It is even shocking when I knew that Nigerian diplomats for example working at the Nigerian embassies in Damascus and Beirut are flown to India to sit for promotion test. I personally know of this and do not need anyone to tell me about it.
