Ebola - Quarantined Nurse Escapes To Enugu And Makes Contact With 20 People!

A nurse, who had previously had contact with the Liberian Ebola patient Patrick Sawyer, fled quarantine in Lagos, and returned to her home in Enugu. This risky decision, and her resulting contact with 20 other people, have put the government on high alert.

According to Sahara Reporters  Minister of Information Labaran Maku, speaking at a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting today, that the nurse and the 20 people she was in contact with are currently under surveillance in Enugu.

“All those who she was in contact with, including her husband, are under quarantine. The medical team has been able to trace all those who made contact with her," he furthered, encouraging citizens to comply with protocol and instruction from health officials.

“We have port health workers that are working in our airports and seaports. We are calling on citizens specifically to cooperate. If health workers say you have had contact with A, B, C, don’t move to anywhere; respect that judgment. It is very important. In one or two cases where we have had disobedience, we lost one of them and this one now moved with it to another place (Enugu). So we are urging Nigerians, please, to help us in making sure that all these messages and appeals we are making are implemented."

189 people are now being monitored in Nigeria. Three have died from the disease: Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian-American businessman who collapsed in Lagos, an attending nurse, and an ECOWAS staffer who worked with Sawyer.

*This pure wickedness on the Nurse' part and her actions are no different from what Patrick Sawyer is being accused of....why knowingly spread something?wickedness in high places!...thats my two cents!

    1. Just 20 people? I don't think so. From lagos-enugu-her house. No apologies whatsoever for calling her a witch.
The American doctor, as soon as he discovered he had fever, he isolated himself immediately. In Nigeria, even the professionals acts unprofessionally. A nurse moving about with a highly contagious deadly disease. Even putting her own family at risk. Patrick sawyer's incarnate.

      She should be cremated alive.
Her picture should even be in circulation. A nurse for that matter, infact this one is pure withcraft.

    9. This is why I suggest that lagos state where it first started should declare at least one week of lock down for everyone. So that everyone can be adequately monitored to know who's showing the symptoms. With every household involved in this exercise we would soon fish out everyone that has contracted it, so that they can be isolated asap. But with everyone moving around while we are yet to find those who are sick with Ebola, unfortunately it will just spread in no time. But I was told that this gesture would affect the economy, but I insist it's the best way. We should be able to sacrifice a few days to prevent more casualties from this epidemic. Isn't it when u have life in abundance that u will spend money or worry about the economy? Which is more important?

Then got on a bus to Enugu, taken a cab to her house....do u see my line of thinking. We are so far in over our heads on this one.
Pls no one should blame me for being paranoid when people like this exist. Haba aunty nurse you have no idea what your actions may have spurned. John Okiyi Kalu, one of the men behind the ‪#‎GiveThemExperimentalDrugs‬ twitter hashtag, has refuted insinuations that Obi Justina Ejelonu is the nurse reported on Wednesday to have escaped from Ebola quarantine in Lagos.

“We can confirm that [fact] without qualification because we have active contact with her,” he said in an update on her this evening, adding that his group was in touch with her at the quarantine location in Lagos only minutes before typing his update.

  26. WELL STELLA, I JUST HEARD ANOTHER VERSION OF THE STORY. THE NURSE ACTUALLY HAD PRIMARY CONTACT WITH SAWYER, THEN TRAVELLED TO ENUGU THE NEXT DAY ON LEAVE. THIS WAS BEFORE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT SAWYER HAD EBOLA. SO SHE CAME BACK TO LAGOS AND WAS QUARANTINED WITH OTHER NURSES. THEN JUST RECENTLY REPORTED TO THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH THAT SHE WAS IN ENUGU AND POSSIBLY HAD CONTACT WITH ABOUT 20 PEOPLE SO THE PEOPLE SHOULD BE PLACED IN QUARANTINE.

BUT OUR LAZY JOURNALISTS PUBLISHED A LUKEWARM STORY, WITHOUT DATED FACTS. SO ALL THE MINISTER IS SAYING IS THAT EBOLA MIGHT BE PRESENT IN ENUGU. SO BEFORE WE CUSS HER OUT, THIS MIGHT BE TRUE.

Let's put ourselves in her shoes: how many of us wouldn't truly nurse the idea of "escaping" from quarantine if we get "arrested" by health workers on the suspicion that we're carriers of EV? How many of us would rain abuses on her if she was a loved one? She's wrong, but she really needs strength right now, not bashing.

  58. Well...I am going to play devil's advocate here. She had contact with the Liberian man that died of Ebola and was being quarantined to determine IF she has it. The report does not indicate that she has been determined to HAVE Ebola.
Personally I think putting all the quarantined people in one facility is dangerous. Some of the people in that facility have been determined to have Ebola and some are just being closely watched due to their contact with a diagnosed person. I'm sorry but I would flee too! What if by God's grace and sheer luck she doesn't have the disease? and then you put her in the same surroundings as someone who does. Isn't that a risk for her to catch it?????
I think there should be different centers for patients that have been established to have the Ebola virus and the people being monitored to determine IF they contacted the virus. Its been over 21 days since the Sawyer guy died and if they haven't found Ebola in her system now then she probably didn't get it. We're all running away from the disease...why shouldn't she???

  65. I have said it before and I'm saying it again. This Ebola issue has now been politicised. We do not have new cases of the virus. How did they diagnose the virus in these 8 People? Do we now have the diagnostic kit in Nigeria? Who are the lab scientists running those samples? Will they be Quarantined too seeing that prior to now we didn't have PPEs /Ebola suit? Even the ones they got were expired. The nurse that supposedly died, was she buried or cremated? The handlers of the corpse were they also quarantined? Why do I feel this Ebola thing is being blown out of proportion? Good distraction from bringbackourgirls and boko haram abi boko boys dey fear to die? So many inconsistencies, so many unanswered questions. Having said that, Dear NMA, please don't call off the strike just yet, I can't put myself and family at risk, it isn't part of the Hippocrates Oath.

  67. @dondavido. God bless u. U said it all. We are all quick to judge her. We are not even sure this story is true and it's easy to curse out when u are not in same situation. It's not easy knowing death is staring at u in d face all bcos of a ferocious virus that rips your organs apart in an extremely short period. May God see us through this extremely terrible scourge which has hit our country so bad. Nigeria has never had it so bad. HIV is child's play compared to Ebola virus.

  71. Please don't call her selfish or wicked. Do you know under which conditions they are being quarantined? WHO and standard health laws stipulate that quarantined individuals should be 3 ft away from each other? How is that possible in that small tent? The same attendants attending to the infected are taking their samples frequently to test for ebola. They use the same public outdoor toilet. When an ebola carrier uses the toilet, how well is this decontaminated before an ebola free person uses the same public outdoor toilet? Who is cooking their food? How did someone who never came close to the Nigerian index patient (Sawyer), test positive weeks after being quarantined? I think we should all just pray that this disease goes away, because no one will know what they would do if found under the same conditions. Even now, I am sure some of you would have relaxed a bit on the sanitizing measures that you had initially embarked on. How do we expect these health officials to be perfect and operate under the strictest sterile conditions possible when dealing with quarantined individuals. After all they are human. She ran away to avoid being infected, if she is not sick after 21 days why keep her there! You should stop being selfish and read up on Ebola!
