Seun Kuti Says He Will NEVER Vote For Buhari For Jailing His Innocent Father Fela...

As sure as thew run rises in the East and sets in the West, Seun Kuti will not vote for General Mohamadu Buhari as the 2015 general draws near.

Though the clamour for the military man’s return to power as a civilian president is high in Lagos State more than other South Western states, the last
son of the legendary Fela Anikulapo Kuti has exclusively told R that he has not quickly forgotten what his father suffered in the hands of General Mohammadu Buhari and the late Tunde Idiagbon when he was the former was the  Military Head of State of Nigeria, and would therefore not vote for him.

Although, he was not categorical about voting for the incumbent, Goodluck Jonathan either, Seun said “Truth is that I have no reason to give my vote to any of the two contestants, but more especially Buhari because of the eternal emotional damage he caused the Kuti family, especially me,” he said.

Barely three years on earth, Buhari jailed the late Afrobeat King on currency trafficking charge in 1984 and Seun did not really get to know Fela, his father, till the controversial musician died. Seun lost his dad 10 years after and he was a little above 13 years when Fela died of HIV/AIDS in August 1997.

Seun, who recently arrived from a musical tour of Asia, said that rather than give his support to Jonathan or Buhari, “I will only urge Nigerians, especially her youths, to come out enmasse to elect the ruler of their choice so that Nigeria’s democracy will continue to grow. As for me though, I will never vote for Buhari because of what he did to my father. It is a personal grouse.

“Buhari denied me the chance of seeing my father in the early stage of my life. He arrested and detained Fela in Kirikiri for the same number of years I was growing up without a father, and even did not allow his family members to see him on a daily basis. He eventually jailed my father and I will always remember that. He jailed my innocent father on currency trafficking, but he is claiming to be a saint now''.  culled from Tribune

    3. Now here's the deal.

      On Fela and Muhammadu Buhari

Dikko was petty vindictiveness that had nothing to do with Dikko's alleged corruption. Umaru Dikko wasn't the only person to experience this, the late, great Fela Anikulapo Kuti was also a victim.
From the time he started putting out politically conscious music in the mid 70s, Fela started attracting the scorn of Nigeria's military, specifically those running the nation from Dodan Barracks.
Starting in 1976, Fela was detained at least five times.
In 1978, his Kalakuta Republic compound was invaded by about 1,000 soldiers, burnt down, and his 77 year old mother, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti was thrown out of a 3rd floor window.
She died that year. But the military was not satisfied.
Fela refused to 'shut up' and by 1984, Buhari's government went after Fela.
On September 4th, 1984, as he was leaving for a tour of the United States, he was arrested at Murtala Muhammed Airport for failure to declare the sum of £1,600 which he was attempting to 'unlawfully export.
The Government's maximum allowance per person was £50.
Despite the fact that it had been drawn from his bank account in the UK, that Fela was travelling with a band comprising of 45 people, and the money was for all of them
did not matter to Buhari's regime.
Getting involved, Buhari's deputy, Tunde Idiagbon menacingly stated that Fela would stay in Jail for a long time, and he also added "...and I hope he will rot in jail."
The case was brought before a military tribunal headed by Justice Gregory Okoro-Idogu. Defense witnesses were not allowed to give testimony on Fela's behalf during the trial.
Fela was found guilty of currency trafficking and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.
Tribunal's judgment was ratified by the Buhari led Supreme Military Council, Buhari signed off on the sentence.
After Buhari was ousted, the judge who headed the tribunal, Gregory Okoro-Idogu paid Fela a prison visit.
He apologized to Fela and confessed that there was insufficient evidence for a conviction, but he had been ordered by Buhari and Idiagbon to convict him.
The Judge promised to write the new Head of State, Babangida, to ask for the sentence to be commuted.
He did as promised, and while Fela's case was being reviewed, Fela was transferred to prison in Benin City and finally allowed to receive visitors.
Close to two years from when Fela was arrested, Babangida's Chief of General Staff; Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe announced his release, stating inter alia Fela's conviction was a 'disgrace to the Federal Military Government'.
Fela saw freedom on April 24, 1986, having served 18 months in prison.
After his release, Fela stated: "...the authorities didn't want us to go to the US to play, but I never expected them to do anything as low as this."
Dear fellow SDK readers, that is the kind of abuse of power, vindictiveness and pettiness that Muhammadu Buhari, the man who wants your vote exhibited when he was entrusted with running the nation.

But then again, don't you all think we all deserve forgiveness and a second change. Like the holy book says, ...old things are pass away...
      In all, vote wisely.
      Dauda Aliu have spoken.
      Sorry for the long episode.
Thanks to my nigga, Aye Dee and our beautiful actress, Kate Henshaw.

    6. But how can anyone with a good head not see clearly that this man is the hope of a new Nigeria. As my friend said, he is the Moses! He might not lead us into the promised land but he sure led us out of Egypt! And this Israelites of my generation want to go back to their spittle? This my generation . . . this my generation of young people, that sees change in a man with the characteristics, credentials, history and antecedents of Mohammadu Buhari, must be a lost generation. This is unspeakably sad and lugubriously depressing! How we got to this level of mental shallowness defies my understanding, how this intellectual drought was inflicted on us defies my imagination. This is indeed when God is needed most in Nigeria, to save us, me and people of my generation, from jumping into the colossal mistake of voting Mohammadu Buhari. I pray solemnly and fervently to God the Almighty father. Generations unborn shall ask how we let this happen; posterity shall question what possessed us and deprived us the power of constructive and critical thinking. How did we simply refused to think? Jesus come to our rescue!!!

May your family curse you and call you cursed. May you forever remain friends with your enemies and those who seek nothing but to destroy you. May God's grace and Mercy be far from you. In your worst times, may help never come your way and every evil thought you have against me multiply in millions and hunt you for all the days of your life. In Jesus name, Amen.
