Fuel Scarcity Hits Abuja, Lagos And Other States

Filling stations in Lagos and other parts of the country remained shut to motorists on Sunday following a sharp drop in the supply of petrol to the market.

It was gathered that oil marketers were no longer interested in importing the product mainly because of the rising exchange rate of the dollar to the Naira which was N226 to a dollar as at Sunday.

The other factors responsible for the marketers’ action are delayed subsidy payments and rising interests on loans from banks.

States mostly affected by the fuel scarcity were Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Bayelsa, Ondo, Ekiti, Kaduna, Delta, Plateau, Akwa-Ibom.   Abuja, the nation’s capital, appeared to be the worst hit.

In Lagos, many filling stations refused to sell petrol but those that were open for business had long queues of customers to attend to.

Although their pump prices remained N87 per litre, black market operators sold N120 per litre.

Drivers of commercial buses capitalised on the situation to increase bus fares.

In Ibadan, Oyo State, the scarcity was said to be due to unsubstantiated information going round that petrol price would go down to N65 per litre, which has made dealers refuse to restock after exhausting their product for fear of running at a loss, if the government suddenly reduces the prices after buying at a higher price.

According to a dealer, he said, “No businessman wants to run at a loss. Those who are not selling must have exhausted their product and are unwilling to buy more at the old price because of the fear that the rumour of a new price of N65 per litre could be true. If we buy today at the current price and government slashes price tomorrow, who pays for the deficit?”

The situation was the same in Ekiti, Ondo, Bayelsa, Delta and most other parts of Nigeria on Sunday as long queues were evident at many filling stations.

How are you coping with the fuel scarcity in your area?

Inshort most filling stations are closed
Passengers are stranded at the bus stop
Its terrible and to crown it all,
There has been epileptic supply of electricity
    So u can imagine..
    No light,
neither is there fuel to power your gen.

  31. This fuel scarcity is not welcomed at all (surprisingly some people love it.
In warri, its becoming evident as some filling station have long queues and others shut down.I was lucky the tricycle I boarded to work didn't stop over for the tank to be refilled. This would make some workers get queries at their work places cause of lateness to work.Very soon that's if it's not happening already, sellers would increase the prices of their goods even though they had them before the fuel scarcity. That's Nigerians for you capitalising on it.
Anyway I hope it doesn't last long cause of the adverse effects.

However black market ppl that bot for 87N sold right outside the filling station for 300N/L imagine?!

Then ppl where shunting the line and entering the station from the back, the attendants allowed them cos the shunters were paying 500naira to enter. Imagine!

Instead of voting for competence and credibility, they are busy bringing tribal, regional and religious sentiments into voting. Una never start to dey suffer, keep being deceived. Nigeria is up for sale if y'all don't know.

  45. It is not funny with this fuel scarcity palava. No fuel no electricity and inverter is dead because no source of charging . I have to switch off my phone to save battery. My kids are tired of the situation bcos no cartoon too. I pray they resolved it this week. Or God should let it rain everyday so it won't be hot at night. #atGod mercy#

    ReplyDelete
  46. We need to let our leaders to understand that they either sit up and deliver to Nigerians or they are voted out. This should be irrespective of their tribe, religion, age, mouth odour (or not). Afterall if they lead well, we all shall be the beneficiaries whether we belong to APC or PDP. And vice versa.

That is what this election is all about to some of us. Make them sit up and deliver or they are voted out. Jonathan has failed and has to GO.

Everyone in Nigeria is suffering under this scarcity but they are not o! They and their families are enjoying o! Where the rest of us born to suffer?

Please, please think about it. Consider the standard of living your children will have with the state of things in this country. The love I have for my kids will decide how i'll vote come March 28 and nothing more. God bless Nigeria.
