Jonathan Says Buhari Is Fighting Insurgency With The Arms He Procured

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has declared that the present administration’s is fighting the war against the Boko Haram insurgency with the arms his administration procured.

Insisting that he laid a solid foundation for terrorism to be defeated, Dr Jonathan expressed hope that very soon, the new government would defeat the insurgency.

Jonathan, who spoke in an interview with France 24 as quoted by The Cable, said the insurgency caught the country unawares but noted that his government laid a solid foundation for terrorism to be defeated.
His words: “The new government is working hard and I believe they are still using the equipment we procured. Though the budget is still being debated, no new equipment has been bought, so even those equipment the president is using to prosecute the war against Boko Haram are those equipment we procured….
“When Boko Haram started in Nigeria, we had no terror experience. Yes, we had armed robbery and other common crimes, but terrorism was different because the people involved were not afraid to die. So, you need a different mechanism to confront terrorism, you need superior technology to be able to stop them even before the attack. We never had the equipment, but when we were confronted, we started acquiring and before I left office we built reasonable capacity and I believe with what we left behind and also with what the new government will acquire, they will be able to prosecute this terror war to a reasonable conclusion.”

    1. Shut up GEJ! You left BH so you can use them and win election. You never took advice when we were placed on the watch list, instead you placed Dora Akunyili to start campaigning REBRAND NIGERIA and protests that they should remove our name from there. "It is not in our culture to be terrorists".
Chibok girls were kidnapped right under your nose, you did nothing saying it was the opposition propaganda.
You rather went for a party! You have no excuse.
If you haven't experienced terrorism then you should have listened when people that have experience are telling you to be watchful or gone to learn from the people that were already fighting. You blamed the opposition for everything and woke up during your elections to start tackling BH.
People died you know? I was thinking you will say the arms gate is a SCAM. Your government was very corrupt! You were not in charge. It is quite a pity cos I think you are a good man at heart. But that is not what Nigeria needs.
Thank God you accept that Buhari is working. Atleast BH attack doesn't make daily headlines.

    3. Anonymous u are so right. GEJ's complacency finished his administration. I'm sure that by now, looking from outside and in retrospect, he knows what he did wrong.

He now knows that those that surrounded his were selfish and were giving him fake information. He barely understood what was really happening back then. GEJ would nod to agree with anything anyone suggested, he wanted to please everyone. He included every Tom dick n harry in his administration upon recommendation.

He was set up big time. And I'm sure he regrets it now. Although he cannot undo the past, what he can do is to help the present administration to prosecute those who still have a bit of the funds in their possession. And he also should submit whatever he took.. directly or indirectly. Only then can they all live in peace

  2. Jonathan equally fought insurgency with the arms buhari and Co purchased during the military regime. Should buhari administration throw away the arms that was purchased with Nigerian money? Jonathan is always making dumb comments. No wonder he was referred to as ineffectual buffoon.

    2. My thoughts too. That he procured the arms during his tenure makes them not usable or what? The money is Nigeria's money and not his so why this unnecessary talk? If he didn't buy them when in office who will? Or shld PMB discard them and make budget for now ones cos he didn't buy them? I don't just get.

    7. The problem we have in this country is dwelling on the past. When Jonathan was in power, most people praising him today wanted him out. I was never a fan and cannot because Jonathan accepted defeat for an election that he lost woefully. Oh, I forgot hero of democracy! Nigeria was practising Aristocracy or is it Monarchy or dictatorship?
Nigeria has been a democratic national since I started following politic/government. So what's the fuse abt being democratic hero. You know when you want to console a child you tell the child that he is stronger than super man. Enough of the hype. Jonathan lost an election in a democratic government and the next thing was to hand over to the winner. This is not the first time handover happened in Nigeria and it won't be the last. Make I hear word.

    8. Anon, Biafrans were regarded as insurgents even more than 30yrs ago. They were even fought more than what GEJ administration did to BH. The UK and USA supplied arms to Nigeria while the French and some other European countries were for Biafrans. Oh yes, the arms were there and that I what they are still using.
Besides, some countries gave Buhari arms in exchange to our money trapped in their country.
Nwamaka, you don't need to work your self out about these uninformed people.

    10. Why did Jonathan wait till the election was postponed before acquiring arms to fight BH? The latter part of his time in office was when they began to fight BH. And it was the money they supposedly used to acquire arms in 2015 that is causing the Dasuki ish today.

No one is saying that he didn't buy anything, the argument is that he should have done so early enough, and they didn't buy enough, considering the type of war they had to face. So what are u people saying?

  5. Exactly what I have been saying

I believe some money was siphoned by greedy politicians but they can't say soldiers had no machineries

And they can't say that because this regime is yet to buy new machineries for the soldiers. They have been using what they had in Stock to fight boko haram and succeeded in driving them a bit far But they didn't use machineries..
. Current budget hasn't even been approved so nothing new was bought

That is why I doubt that figure 2.1 billion dollars

I know they stole money but not up to that amount
. Currently 2.1b dollars is 608 billion naira

But during the time this arms deal happened, dollar was still at 200 naira so I'll say 2.1 billion dollars was about 400billion naira

And so far, with all the money they have mentioned dasuki spent, it's not up to 50mllion yet.

They should come up with the real figure that was laundered and spent by greedy people and then tell us how much arms was bought that time

  14. Oga Jona should just bow his head in shame & save us the accompanying drama!

What pains me the most is that President Jonathan does not know or pretends not to know the fatal damages he has done to Nigeria and its people.
To date, and at every given opportunity, he tells us with some degree of pride that he has done well for us. Honestly, I am puzzled!

Is President Jonathan that silly and dumb, or does he look at Nigerians as bunch of fools? I don't get it, I actually can't understand it. I hope y'all do!

Purchase of ammunitions is supposed to be a covertly carried out operation, not for public consumption.

That the Oga Jona led gov't brandished in our faces details that should remain top secrets doesn't make it right.

Apc invented the girls who were able to escape and narrate how they were kidnapped, Apc invented the pictures of the kidnapp girls too and their names? Apc also invented ds arms deal? So of all the problems facing buhari as the president of this country, he will then sit down with efcc and formulate arms deal as a way to get back on pdp. And do u think buhari is that intelligent to come up with such a plan? Now I know u are just a moron. No brain at all.
