I dey salute everybody ooooooh. I don realise say I love pidgin English pass anything, but if I try hold straight pidgin conversation, after two minutes I don switch to English. Na only me dey like this? Abi na because I no get person wey dey speak pure pidgin with me? My Bambinos dey try, but the way dem dey pronounce pidgin dey give me headache. Big Bambino just waka commot now and tell me, “Mama how far, wetin dey wan happen?” I nearly laugh fall from chair.I be correct Waffy and proud of am, but my pidgin don dey misbehave small small. Even my native language from Naija, I fit understand like 30 percent and speak maybe 10 percent.
Who else dey this WhatsApp group with me?

Now in second year of kindergarten, it’s still the same schedule just that they have to return to school every Mondays and Thursdays at 1:45pm for afternoon class!
Why not just keep them in school! Now they’ve had to call me twice, second time being a few minutes ago because I forgot to send Alex back! Hey God! I hope I won’t eventually get some sorts of query!

@ Eka Joy, I appreciate your concerns o. The Lord is your strength. My daughter started reception at 9.30-1130am as per UK rule to help them integrate. It was really hectic for my husband because he was working shift and me I was on 9-5. Las las, he did night shift for 5 years so he’d be home when they get back. We look back now and just joke about it; our daughter is 25yo now. Ko soun to le ti ko ni ro jare.

Ofeakwu is different from banga soup. The only similarity is that the base is fresh palmnut extract. Spices ,leaves and accompaniments are different.

I have always been fluent in Pidgin right from day one, being a Waffy boy as well and during my NYSC days, my Pidgin made me stand out in camp. We were just two guys from Warri who spoke Pidgin hysterically and fluently. We had heard of each other for a long time until carnival day, when we finally saw each other and immediately knew we were the other Warri guy π.
ReplyDeleteBut now my Pidgin fluency has reduced a bit, as I don’t stay updated that much. Still, I understand it well, and whenever I enter Warri (which is rarely), I still keep up with the new slang and updated Pidgin, so I can’t complain at all π .
Big sis, your bambino saying “Mama how far, wetin dey wan happen?” He even tried, na just the “WAN” he add inside spoil am. But I see why he think say e make sense, based on the fact that “WAN” na action word π .
Then yes, Ofe Akwu is the Igbo version of banga soup, but theirs is used as stew for rice. During my NYSC days in Anambra (Ihiala) and also at our camp, I suffered and learnt to enjoy it as a substitute for my favourite meal “Banga soup with fresh fish and starch” because it was never available at any restaurant inside the mammy market or even in the LGA I was deployed to and no matter where I go if I ask for Banga soup they say they have it and immediately bring Ofe Akwu for meπ . Na every weekend I dey run enter Abraka go eat better banga soup and starch all through, and even get takeaways as I dey return back to my PPA on Sunday evening. Chai, memories π↔️
