Abducted 15-Year-Old UTME Candidate Returns Home

A 15-year-old girl, Rita Clement, who was abducted by unidentified persons while on her way to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in the Ikeja area of Lagos State, has returned home.

It was learnt that Clement was dropped off by her abductors in the Oshodi area on Wednesday around 9pm, and given money to take a bus back home.

PUNCH Metro had reported on Thursday, March 17, 2016, that Clement, who lived with her relatives on Gboyega Kilo Street in the Ojodu Berger area, and had UTME registration number 65061660GJ, went missing on Thursday, March 10.
It was reported that she was to sit for the exam at 6.30am on the day she went missing, and her centre was at the West African Examinations Council International Office on Plot B, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Lagos.

It was reported that at about 5pm on Thursday, Clement sent a text message to her mother’s mobile phone, raising the alarm that she had been abducted and she did not know the location where she was taken to.
The matter was said to have been reported at the Ojodu Police Division and transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja.

Clement had written in the text message, “Mummy, they took my phone and beat me up inside the bus. Mummy, I don’t know where they took me to. They made me sleep and said they will kill me if I ran. Someone gave me the phone, saying I must return it before they came back. Mummy, please save me.”

The uncle, Emeka Orazulike, who worked as a pharmacist, had said they had yet to hear any update from the police, adding that he believed in God that Clement would return home.
PUNCH Metro learnt on Thursday that Clement walked back into the family’s apartment at about 9pm on Wednesday.
She was said to be tired and unable to give the details of her ordeal to the family members.

It was gathered that the family on Thursday went to the Ojodu division to make a statement that the teenager was back.
They, thereafter, proceeded to the SARS office, Ikeja, where the operatives took Clement’s statement.
Punch observed Clement, Orazulike, and three other family members at the Command headquarters, Ikeja.
The SARS operatives thereafter kept Clement with them, instructing the family to come for her in the evening, preventing the teenager from being interviewed by journalists.
Orazulike, said the teenager’s narration so far was that she was taken to an unknown place, but was asked to return home on Wednesday when her captors got tired of her.

He said, “For now, we know that she was taken to Abeokuta, Ogun State, by the abductors. But on Wednesday, the men brought her to Oshodi.
“They then gave her transport fare to find her way back home. She said the men stated that she was not their material. She walked into the house yesterday (Wednesday). We were all surprised.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said she had interviewed the girl and her explanation showed an abscondment rather than being abducted.
She said, “The girl is back and I have spoken with her. From what she narrated, it is more of an absconding from home than being abducted. She had been in Abeokuta. Meanwhile, the police are still investigating to get to the roots of this matter.”
When our correspondent asked Orazulike the ‘abdscondment theory’, he said the girl had not told him about that.

He said, “We suspect she had been with kidnappers or ritualists. She did not tell us about running away from home. She made us to believe through the text message that she was abducted and taken to an area. That is all we know for now.”

*Hmmm, they gave her the phone and did not think she would contact her parents or someone with it?They gave her transport money to return home?

    1. The story get k-leg but I don't think she can risk not writing jamb for something else. There's a possibility that she was kidnapped and prayers brought her back home. Whatever the story is...thank God she's back home

  6. My thoughts exactly jare, she probably saw a rare opportunity to and took it.
That's how this girl in my Church years ago got "kidnapped" everybody was scared for her, fasting and prayers were held, the step mother felt guilty because she was the one that asked her to go meet a debtor of hers, if you hear the elaborate story this girl gave ehn, straight out of a very scary Kenneth Okonkwo/ Clem Ohameze/ Kanayo ritual movie, how her body touched their car and she disappeared and found herself in a house with people tied for slaughter, how a pregnant woman was butchered and her baby was brought out and pounded, but God saved her .her "head" didn't agree, they now left her 3days later, infact it was a Church member that saw her staggering very weak, and had to back her home. Well Last last we discovered that she was actually at her Boyfriend's house.
    Rita's Story is somehow.

  11. I would have said something was probably fishy here.
Cos the first time I read d letter she wrote to her mom.I tot d letter was very odd.it was well composed and lacked fear or anguish. But then some people are more in control of their emotions Dan others I argued with myself.

And again,d abscondment theory didn't hold much water cos I tot "Of all dats to abscond???On d day she is going to write her JAMB Exams??? Why didn't she do it one of d days she was going for Jamb lessons? Or going on an errand?

The timing of ds doesn't seem right. She may have really bn kidnapped.

  12. Stellz, yea is possible, I had a friend who was tricked into helping someone cos he doesn't understand English(he speaks like all this Jamaicans) that he's from another Africa country.... bla bla bla stuff. One of them who claimed to be the brother to the Rev. Sis with the rosary on his neck wasn't as wicked as the other ones, he begged them on her behalf that she should not be raped and that her sim card should be given back to her. At the end of the day, when they let her go, they gave her back her Sim card and transport fare that will take her back to her house. This happened on a Sunday at Okwashi-ukwu, Delta State.
So? the little girl MIGHT be saying the truth!!!

    Bottom line,
    THANK GOD SHE IS BACK!
All is well even inside the well!!!

  16. Thank God Almighty for safe journey. I hope they did not finger her

  17. Stell's no go think am o. "She was not their material"
if they ask her very well, you'll find out that the "kidnappers" probably took blood samples from her.
Our policemen no get sense aswear! See how they quickly assumed she absconded. There are organ harvesters and there are kidnappers. The organ harvesters usually return the victim when the blood sample is not a match for the order they have in the black market. If she was a match, she never would have been returned. If she wanted to abscond, why will she do it on the day she had to write jamb?

  18. Was she abused xesually in any way,she should be checked.

  19. Whatever the reason is, whether kidnap o, abduction o or absconding o, we thank God she came home alive. I'm sure many of us are aware of the girl who went to visit her Facebook boyfriend in minna and never returned. So all I have to say is THANK YOU GOD. I hope her parents would take her for the necessary medicals just to clean he up just in case she was tampered with either way and I hope they would also continue to lift her up in prayers, very necessary. May God never put us or our children into this type of confusion, Amen.

  20. Stella forget, it can't be a case of abscond but abduction. A sister-inlaw's cousin had thesame experience. She was droped off after 1wk close to her mothers shop wia they abducted her. Clemnets family should be grateful that she came home well and hearty unlike d sister-inlaw's cousin that came home senseless. Till date, she has been like that. This happened for like 4yrs now.
