Woman Beaten By Soldiers And Her Car Damaged For Obstructing Traffic...

Soldiers on Monday  assaulted a motorist, Joy Agboghide, for allegedly obstructing traffic  on Forestry Lane, Benin, Edo State.

It was learnt  that the incident occurred at about 4pm in front of the headquarters of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company.
It was learnt that an  officer, a Major, was   said to have  emerged from the premises of the  company and instructed the woman to reverse her vehicle in order to ease traffic on the narrow road.

Sources said  Agboghide, a mother of six, however, explained that she had initially allowed about five vehicles to go  due to the indiscriminate parking of vehicles on the road.

An argument was said to have ensued between the soldier and the 51-year-old woman, after the army officer  insisted that she must reverse her vehicle.
The major, who   was said to have been angered  by the development, returned  to the BEDC  premises.

The source said he later returned with   some soldiers said to be attached to the BEDC and  allegedly ordered them to beat  the woman up.
She was said to have been rushed to the Central Hospital in Benin where was receiving treatment as of the time of filing this  report.

Agboghide alleged  that she was also assaulted by a woman said to  the wife of the officer.
She said,  “As the man jumped inside his vehicle and tried to drive off, I hit his windscreen. He came down and damaged my windscreen and  the rear screen.
“Suddenly,  he came out with a whip and beat me. The lady inside the vehicle also sprayed tear gas into my eyes.”

Spokesman for the 4 Brigade Command of the Nigerian Army, Captain Jonah Unuakhalu, told Punch correspondent that  the  officer involved was not in the Army.“He is a Nigerian Air Force officer. But we are investigating,” Unuakhalu said.”

    2. All she had to do was obey the traffic command. That woman should have received a more proper beating. She thinks the officer is her husband that she disrespects anyhow. Useless woman.

    3. Like seriously?

      This is a woman we are talking about oh;
If we are strongly against violence against women in their homes, why then should we support such evil?

There are better ways to punish a woman :but physically assaulting her? Haba! That's too unfair

  5. Just imagine the effrontery.
"He entered his car and wanted to leave. And I hit his windscreen."
I think everyone should commend the officer. for showing restraint and using a whip on her. Instead of beating her with bare hands. He also did not use pen knife to damage all the tyres.
This is the type of woman that controls their horsebands. B

    1. James, who are u, u r so biased against women. Do u beat yr wife. I am sure u r a wife beater. The officer has no right to beat the woman. He is not above the law because he is an officer. I pray he faces the full wrath of the law. People should think before acting.

  8. Stubborn bloody civilian. That's good for her, next time she will behave herself.

  9. Theres wisdom in letting things slide honestly.
First, irrespective of what happened, she should never have been beaten and even be assaulted by a civilian woman also. Now, i wonder why she didnt move back when she was told to do so, am sure he was wearing uniform thats how she knew his a military person. Allowing 5 cars to have passed isnt an excuse o afterall sometimes its like the traffic police will allow every1 pass except u, u dont go disobeying him cos of that na. She would have saved both herself and her car if she just reversed, and he didnt just say it rather she even acknowledged its for the easy flow of traffic. Even the traffic law says if your traffic light is working and a uniformed person is directing u against the traffic light, u should obey the person.

    1. Yes she was very wrong. Buttttttt...if this was ME o, it's either I die, the man dies, or the wife dies.. cos NO ONE is going to beat me and get away with it. As much as I'm conscious of the law, on this one I'd put the laws into my hands to defend myself, if I don't die in the process, I'll face the consequences gladly. Esp the wife that joined hands to beat when she should have been scolding the woman while restraining her husband from besting another man's wife in her presence. What fuckery? For her mind now, her hubby is super man and she's proud and showing off. Abeg that woman is lucky. Let God punish me if I find myself in this situation and I don't leave them a lasting impression. Sometimes u gat to let the ghetto side of u out. Mshew

Meanwhile, madame, u sef. When they warn your likes u won't listen. See what 2mins of disobedience has caused u.

  15. Nigeria Army has lost respect in this country

  16. Imagine road users fighting and breaking their screens, thereby obstructing other road users at the same time. This can only be seen in uncivilized country like Nigeria. No traffic and driving rules. No respect for other road users. People behave unreasonably. When I see how things are done and handled abroad I cry for my people.

  22. Pure abuse of power.
Bullying and battering citizens they are suppose to be protecting that's all they use their uniforms for. I pray the scoundrel gets fished out and dealt with severely. What nonsense.

  25. That's what u get for disobeying law enforcement officers . In a civilized society they'll deal with you for being stubborn in a civilized manner ,but ull still be dealt with tho . The last thing thing I'll do as a person is to be rude to a law enforcement officer. I can't deal pls.

    Shame on the major.

  32. There's more to this story, am sure the woman provoked them if not, how can a soldier and his wife beat her up just like that.

    ReplyDelete
  33. She is in pain and will treat herself, repair her car and probably miss what she wanna do had it been she listened.
She probably displayed her manner of disobedient/stubborn outside and got it wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The woman should have obeyed the officer and not bandy words with him.
This would have been averted if she had obeyed a simple instruction.
The officer shouldn't have beaten her,she is a woman for crying out load.
Let them face the consequences of their actions
