1- Drama as Sheriff moves PDP NEC to Gombe

Ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) national convention fixed for Port Harcourt on May 21h, National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff may have perfected a plot to ward off opposition
against his ambition to remain in office.
The office of national chairman had since been zoned to North-East by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) at its meeting last month. However, some members of the party’s Board of Trustees, have rejected the zoning of the office of the national chairman to the North-East


2- North East: Insurgency worsens poverty level

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara yesterday said years of insurgency in the North East contributed to the level of poverty in the region.
Speaking at the opening of a public hearing on North East Development Commission Establishment Bill, Dogara said the commission became necessary in order to coordinate the rebuilding and rehabilitation of the region.  The bill, sponsored by Dogara, passed Second Reading in the House on December 15, 2015.


3-Platini resigns as UEFA president

Michel Platini has made known his intention to resign as UEFA president at the organization’s next congress as a result of the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s decision to retain his ban from football activity.
Platini who was handed a six years ban, reduced to four years by CAS’ three-man appeal panel- relating to a $2 million (£1.3m) disloyal payment made by then FIFA chief, Sepp Blatter in 2011, denied any wrong doing and had maintained optimism, prior to Friday’s ruling, towards having his punishment annulled.
He expressed in a statement released by his lawyers that he was deeply disappointed by the injustice of the decision and was now ready to resign.


4- Western Marine Command intercepts cannabis worth N100m

The Western Marine Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Thursday, intercepted 26 sacks of Indian hemp weighing 3750 kilogrammes and valued at N100 million.
The command also said it seized more than 200,000 bags of rice from smugglers in the last three weeks.
Addressing journalists at the Ibafon, Apapa, Lagos, office of Western Marine Command, the Comptroller, Mr. Umar Yusuf, in company of other senior Naval officers said the seizure took place at 2.00am on Thursday night at Iworo harbour, Tanfi Island, off Badagry-Benin Republic axis after a tip-off.


5- Badeh: EFCC witness has property across 3 states

A prosecution witness and former Director of Finance and Account, Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Aliyu Yishau (retd.) has admitted owing multi-million naira properties in three states of the federation.
He made the disclosure yesterday under cross-examination by defence counsel to Badeh who is facing trial at the Federal High Court, Abuja, on allegations of fraud.


6- Nigerian match commissioner dies in
Lagos

The match commissioner for Sunday’s Nigeria league match between Kano Pillars and Ikorodu United, Tanko Nuhu is dead. Nuhu from Nasarawa State, who
lived in Abuja with his family, was
found dead in his hotel room on Monday.


7- FG may raise fuel price to N130

THE Federal Government may be
considering increasing petrol price as part of efforts to resolve perennial fuel shortages. If the plan sails through,
government may also have to abandon its policy of fixing the pump price of petrol in order to allow independent marketers resume the importation of fuel to sell at profitable margins, sources at
the Petroleum Product Pricing Resulated Agency (PPPRA) have said.


8- 80th Birthday: Buhari felicitates with Shonekan— 10th May 2016

President Muhammadu Buhari has felicitated with elder statesman and former Head of the Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan, on his 80th birthday.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Malam Garba Shehu in Abuja on Monday.
It said, “on this special occasion, Buhari commends his immense contribution to national peace and development which he has exemplified as an accomplished administrator, astute businessman and patriot.


9- Brazil: Disarray in parliament over impeachment of president

The Brazilian Senate has vowed to vote on the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff despite a ruling that a vote in the lower house which agreed that the president be impeached was flawed
Senate Speaker Renan Calheiros rejected the attempt by Waldir Maranhao, the lower house’s acting speaker, to halt the process.
Mr Maranhao had called for a new vote in the lower house, but to boos and cheers in the Senate, Speaker Renan Calheiros called that decision illegal.
The Senate is scheduled to vote on Wednesday on whether to start an impeachment trial.


10- Herdsmen attacks, signs of break up
–MASSOB

MOVEMENT for the  Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), has said current herdsmen attack against some communities in Nigeria, including
Boko Haram attacks in the North East, Niger Delta Militants attacks on oil installations and Biafran agitation
were signs of Nigeria on the verge of
a break up. Central Director of Biafra Red Cross, Mr. Osondu Okwaraeke  said this in Onitsha, Anambra State yesterday.
