EFCC Says It Has The Right To Freeze Fayose's Account.

The spokesperson of EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, says the agency has the right to freeze the accounts of Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose, even though he enjoys immunity under the constitution.

Speaking with Vanguard, Uwujaren said the immunity being enjoyed by any governor doesn’t prevent the commission from investigating suspicious movements of money into his accounts.

“Immunity does not prevent EFCC from investigating suspicious accounts of those enjoying immunity and Fayose cannot be an exception, “he said

Fayose’s account with Zenith bank was frozen by EFCC.

*Fayose should stop screaming 'WOLF' and allow them scan through his account if his hands are clean...Is he the only one whose account has been frozen and under investigation? If he has money that he cannot account for or that was traced to Dasuki Largesse then he has a case to answer, until then please be patient and then cry wolf when all is clear.
This idea of using the social media to stop the law from running its course should stop ABEG!!!.

Does his account have immunity too? Wasn't the former governor of bayelsa, alams, arrested and then impeached for corruption some years ago? He too had immunity. You can't steal glaringly and then claim immunity.

      Delete
    2. Odunayo pls dont pass wrong info.
Alams was forcefully impeached after the hoa was sieged and then arrested afterwards.

      Delete
    3. @Odun.. You obviously don't get it. Immunity doesn't exempt a governor from being impeached. The law makers of the state unanimously agree to remove a governor.. but before that, a governor cannot be arrested whilst still in office.

Arrest and impeachment under the constitution are two different things.

Vuharia cannot use EFCC to be intimidating his opposition!...
There is no difference between this government and Abacha's regime!...and what happend to Abacha will surely happen to him!..

    1. I will repeat it again!

Your defense is baseless, all dubious transactions under the former NSA is under investigation, such funds are being frozen pending conclusion.

No one is persecuting him yet, he owes Nigerians an explanation on how his private account got credited by the office of the NSA.

NSA office has nothing to do with PDP campaign fund.

A state governor trying to commit treason or a terror act will definitely not be covered by immunity. The state comes before him.

FFK, Metuh, Fayose and Co money emanated from Office of the NSA, why? What happened to PDP secretariat?

    2. Obasanjo did the same with EFCC. It's just how it's done in Africa. JoeJoe wasn't in the mood to use EFCC to his own advantage.

  4. Stella u dey germany dey talk abi..
Lets wait and see how long his account will be frozen. So whats the point of immunity if his account can be frozen at will?
How many governors account under investigation has been frozen?

A wise man once said: " you can all only do this under the atmosphere of peace". If e set, i wonder how many can even log unto this blog and type.
Even GEJ at the height of the impasse btw himself and ur boo didnt freeze his account. You need to apply wisdom as a leader. Its not always about showing strenght or in this case federal might.
Let me also say this...this country is highly volatile. Even the pleas alone will tell u theres surutu, we dont need over heating the polity. Theres hunger, anger, pain and suffering in the land. Am not from ekiti neither do i know fayose but one this is certain, hes the voice of the opposition right now and unlike metuh, he enjoys immunity.

    1. @Tuscany, i think you should go back and do your research about OBJ regime from 1998 to 2008. During that period, EFCC under Ribadu investigated/invited a lot of PDP Governors mainly Orji Kalu, late Bayelsa Governor,Tinubu,Lucky of Edo state,Udenwa of Imo, Peter Odili.
Same us complained about it. Should the government just watch looters who looted our common wealth continue to enjoy our money while me and you continue to complain about same government?
So your idea of fighting corruption is letting Fayoso keep his loot while Ekiti workers go unpaid.

Bro, are you just angry because Fayoso's account was blocked or you are just upset with Buhari's regime?
Should the government fold their arms and not investigate anyone because they are opposition? If your "Hero" GEJ couldn't arrest or investigate any of his men, it does not mean current government shouldn't. Is Fayoso truly an opposition member or a drowning man seeking for attention? Ohh YES!!! Efcc have the right to block his account and others under our constitution. Being a state governor doesn't mean he can't be investigated. He just can not be thrown into jail because of his immunity.
Efcc do not have to wait for Fayoso to be out of office before being investigated. Tinubu was in office when Obj (PDP) stopped Lagos state from receiving their monthly allocation for more than 2years. The above mentioned governors were in office when Efcc investigated them, one was even impeached during Obj regime.
Do you think Efcc will just block an account without due process knowing fully well that the world is watching? Those organisation have Top lawyers/SAN, they work within the ambit of the law.
We all know must of you HATE the regime, please it's time to drop our anger/emotions aside and face reality. If he is innocent he should go to court. The government can't bring about change if we continue to support people who looted us and killed our system.
      Have a nice day.

It is Fayose not Fayoso. And don't blame auto correct as usual . You wrote the same thing four times.
Your childish mistakes are too many. I don't know where to start and where to stop. It is EFCC not Efcc

  16. This is my. First time of dropping a comment here. I like some of your articles bcos they are educating, but your meddle a lot into things that you are not suppose to(Rant a lot) sometimes u should just blog and leave your visitors to comment. How can they freeze the account of a sitting Governor and you that should know better is telling him to chill till are done with thier investigation. Your Buhari obviously does not respect the rule of Law and you are directly supporting his claring dictatorship style. people like you that are suppose to stand up for what the constitution states (obviously it's not working) are busy aiding and abetting this disdain and i'm left to ask what the future holds for the next generation.

  17. This is not military rule for crying out loud. We are in a democratic regime, whatever is to be done should follow the rule of law. EFCC does not have any right to touch Fayose's account, he is a sitting governor and has immunity. Why has EFCC not gone after Amaechi? Answer: because he is in APC. Why have they not gone after Fashola with the outcry of how much he spent to develop a website and sink borehole? Answer: because he is in APC.
Buhari should know power is transient, he will not be there forever. Why is the fight against corruption one sided? Is he trying to tell us we have saints in APC? Why has EFCC not probed the source of the fund used for APC campaigns? they should all know what goes around comes around. Today it is Fayose, tomorrow who wil it be?

  24. Democratic tyranny! That's what it is. While many Nigerians are against the immunity enjoyed by certain cadre of political office holders, evading the current provisions of law because of seeming exigencies is akin to building a castle on sandy foundation. The laws should be amended first so that anyone who acts contrary to its provisions would be prosecuted accordingly.
We live in an era of selective prosecution. Nobody comes to justice without equity.

  29. Concerning this Fayose and EFCC
matter, you hear all manner of arguments and you just smh.
Fayose is just a rabblerouser that should not be taken seriously in this life.
Yes, EFCC may not have the right to try a sitting governor with immunity, but it still legally retains the mandate to block suspicious transactions/accounts.
And remember, EFCC didn't freeze the government's account. They froze his PERSONAL account.
Those accusing EFCC of wrong doing will still turn back to blame the commission of doing nothing when it noticed the fraudulent transactions.
And the the funny thing is that these Fayose defenders ignore the fact that the guy has not denied the allegations. He's only telling us another suspect is walking free too.
He's basically said yesterday that "yes am a thief. But why are you not catching other thieves.." .... smh

  30. When Fayose was running his mouth like a mad woman on heat, he didn't know the people were looking into his cupboard and the most possible way to clear the skeletons.
Opposition or no opposition, no governor has ever confronted a sitting President so brazenly like Fayose has done.
No governor has ever insulted a sitting president so openly like Fayose has done.
No governor has ridiculed the family of a sitting president like Fayose has done.
No governor has ever threatened the economic interest of the country so brazenly like Fayose has done.
And yet this President has largely ignored him.
whether we like it or not, democracy or no democracy, The reality is that the Presidency is a VERY VERY POWERFUL institution.
There is only so much a human being can tolerate.. Lest of all, the VERY POWERFUL President of Nigeria..

    ReplyDelete
  31. Fayose was looking for trouble he wouldn't be able to handle.
In his last incarnation, he didn't even do half of what he is doing now for Obasanjo to destroy him.
You can play opposition but play it with sense and maturity.
Let me give you an example..
Just Look at the I.G of Police situation.. Spoke to some couple of Police ogas about who they think will replace Solomon Arase as I.G.
They said normally, it would have been AIG Mbu Mathew Mbu..
Remember him? .. The same man who Ex-President Jonathan, his wife and Wike used to terrorise Rotimi Amaechi in Rivers state where he was governor.
Now tell me, how conceivable is it for an APC government to elevate him to the position of I.G?
The first thing this government did when they came was to transfer him to Police college as the commandant.. All because he did his job stupidly.
So Fayose can shout all he likes..
If EFCC has a mandate, then its constitutional. If you think otherwise, challenge the decision in court.
All this stories he is giving us will not unblock his account. He should go to court.
...When you pray for rain, be prepared to deal with the mud...

  38. well, if they want to start freezing governor's personal accounts they should spread it out to governors from both major parties.

just like the whole talk about PDPs campaign finances. if they want to look into campaign finances mr president should open up his own campaign finances and lets see how much chibuike diverted into that from rivers state treasury. PDP may have received money from dasuki and dizeani but where did APC get their from? isn't it the same people in power at the time even though they were shouting 'ÇHANGE' at the time????

  40. what has freezing account go to do with owing teachers??? when aregbesola was owing teachers for months how many of his private accounts were frozen? . did they freeze the accounts of ajimobi and co who were owing civil servants so much because they diverted money for elections? shebi they gave them bailout that time...patting them on the back for mismanaging state funds

when amaechi left PH civil servants were being owed for moths...why didn't they freeze his personal accounts at the time?.

a beg let's call it what it is : an act of vendetta against the loudest, most annoying critic of the current administration. the APC administration itself doesn't have any saints. the only man who can beat his chest on that issue maybe is the president himself. the ones advising him to freeze fayose's account are as crooked as they come ah beg.
