Saraki Renovates Late Rashidi Yekini’s House, Boosts Mother’s Biz

The Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki yesterday extended hands of fellowship to the family of the late football legend, Rashidi Yekini.

Parts of the gesture was presentation of tricycle to late Rashidi Yekini’s younger brother, Akeem Yekini, renovation of Yekini’s house in Offa, particularly where his mother stays and recruitment of domestic servants including a nurse for the mother.
Similarly, the petty trading business of the late football legend’s mother, Alhaja Sikirat Yekini was boosted through the injection of funds and provision of a well water in the compound to ease water supply in the compound.

Speaking on behalf of the Senate President during the presentation, the Director, ABS Ilorin FC, Alloy Chukwu Emeka described the gesture as a right step in recognising the late legend’s contribution to the development of sports in the country.

He added that the gesture was to bring about maximum comfort to the mother and family of the late football legend.
According to him “the Senate President is a man who is passionate about the development of the youths and sports especially in kwara state and Ira, the late Yekini’s home town particularly.
“We have come to also sympathise with the family of Yekini to show that the labour of our heros past should not be in vain and to show to the young ones that whatever they are doing today will not be in vain and once they do it well, they will be rewarded accordingly.

“To this end, the Senate President has presented a tricycle to his younger brother and renovated the house where the mother stays; he boosted her business, renovated the mosque in the compound and boost water supply with the provision of a well and water reservoir.

“And part of Saraki’s vision to produce more Rashidi Yekinis in the country especially from this environ is to initiate a programme of under- 13 Championship through the ABS where youths from the town and other parts of the state will be competing yearly to remember Rashidi Yekini. We have provided kits, balls and a trophy on behalf of the Senate President”.
Responding, the mother of late Rashidi Yekini, Mrs Sikirat Yekini thanked the Senate President for the gesture and prayed God to reward him in manifold.
Also speaking on behalf of the family, Mr Akeem Yekini appreciated Saraki for remembering the family especially when such assistance was most needed.

    2. Eyah finally. This is so good. Old people love to work because of boredom. If she's not active she may fall sick. So I guess she enjoys her petty trade. At least she's selling from home so it's ok.

God bless Saraki for the kind gesture.

  7. He tried but how I wish he invested more on the young man. Probably start a biz for him so that he will take care of the old woman. I really don't think the Nigerian govt. And Nigeria owe it to them to sustain their livelihood. They were paid when in active service but most of them just squandered the money without investing in anything meaningful. They forget about tomorrow.

  8. Stella,Rashidi Yekini does not have a piece of land in OFFA not to talk of his family settling there. Rashidi yekini is from IRA in kwara state. IRA shares a boundry with OFFA,like lagos and Ogun sate. The building you are seeing is in IRA not OFFA.

    1. @BA you're 100% wrong. The house is in Ijagbo adjacent to coca-cola depot. When coming from Offa towards Ilorin, it's located on the left hand side as has a small sign post that reads "ile Iya Rasheed Yekini" meaning Rasheed Yekini mother's house.

    1. She was collecting rent from the house her son built for her, which was a meagre that couldn't sustain her. She cried out for help that her little trade of selling bread was not sufficient enough to cater for her needs. The house she was living in needed renovation and her tenants were disturbing her.. so I guess that is exactly what she got from Saraki.

I think there was a time she got donations from a few people but the money go finish na. Now that her market has been boosted she can sustain herself without waiting for stipend from anyone.

  24. But Yekini is not her mum's only child.
Why can't another sibling take care of this old helpless woman?
Why is it that some part of the country hardly take care of their aged parents?
This should change. Their children should learn to take adequate care of their parents . That's the way to go

  25. Yekini used to be my Idol. I can still remember when I used to play the position of No 9 at school. And they nicknamed me Yekini. Bcos I am tall and well built and always a deadly striker. A goalkeepers worst nightmare . When I was still a small boy his first match I watched was against Zaire in The Tunisia 94 nation's cup. I was so impressed with his performance that I feel in love with him. And his first goal in USA 94 against Bulgaria? I couldn't contain my joy. Then we tagged the match, a battle of the deadly strikers,Stoichkov vs Yekini. Memories of the good old innocent days.
I do not know how things later went so wrong later in his life. I will gladly donate my widow mite if there is any fund to take care of Yekini s mum .

  29. Good job Saraki!

    But wait o! Hmmmmm
When news of how Yekini's mom was living in near abject poverty hit the Internet, peeps from his side came to deny it. They so vehemently denied it that a lawyer was contacted. He listed out "properties",showed pictures of Mama "doing well"
And insisted over and over again that the woman was almost living in Paradise.
Na wah o! So na so this woman dey live and they came with all those doctored stuff?
And I just remembered those his two Queen Eliza English-Speaking Daughters. Ha!
Na wah for some people o!

    1. GW, yea I think the lawyer and his family fell out. He was trying to explain that mama was getting little monies from well wishers, that she wasn't starving as was reported. Then mama and yekini's brother accused the lawyer of diverting funds that were sent to her thru him. That whatever the lawyer was given for Yekini's sake didn't get to her. Lol. The woman prolly assumed that the govt was giving the lawyer something. So all of them were accusing each other but the bottom line is that the mama say the money no do am. Lol
