Labour Room Drama 18 And 19

what!!!...you did what?na wah!!!

LRD 18
Hello Stella, here's my labor room story.
I had a lot of medical issues while I was pregnant and one of those issues was very low platelet count. so, my doctor and I decided it would be better to induce me when my platelets has been increase by drugs and platelets transfusion.
Since I was alone in the US and my husband couldn't come around, I used my last pregnant days to prepare for when my baby was gonna be born.

I was scheduled to be induced on the 8th of October, so I took my car for a tune up and bought food to stock the house on the 6th. I started cooking when I got home, Thats when I felt pains in my tommy like period pain. I tried taking a warm shower to release the pain.

After 3 showers, I drove to the hospital for them to check me since my baby wasn't technically due till the 21st of October. As I checked in, the nurse checked me and said I was already 8cm dilated and I was admitted into the delivery room. They offered to wheel me, but I preferred to walk. As I settled into the bed and the nurse was hooking the drip up, naso I jump up like mad woman wey craze just enter e body say I wan go toilet go shit. 😬😬

It took 4 nurses to hold me down, then they told me the baby already started crowning.. They told me to push and I pushed him out in like 3 pushes.. It was an easy birth but  I got 4th degree tears.
And nah me do my omuogwo myself. It just takes organization and planning

Each time I look at my bundle of joy, I thank God for his mercies and turning my fear in laughter.

Your baby is soooo cute but abeg explain something..which one is crowning again?and what is 4th degree tears?
This LRD people teaching new things like kilode!

LRD 19

Good day stella, my Labour room chronicles goes this way.

Being a nurse-midwife, I'v seen different scenario of normal Labour become complicated,  so I prayed, fasted, even sowed a convenant seed for the safest delivery ever. Truth is we catch headssss in the Labour room as we call deliveries but i'v never experienced it being a 1st time mum or primi-gravida.

So I started by registering in a govt tertiary hospital and a private hospital close to me  which is what I advice would-be mothers.
On my last antenatal visit which was already tiring and stressfull,  my gynea told me that if I ddnt birth my child on my EDD (nextday)  before the next routine visit(7days) I would be admitted and induced. So I told her to give me a cervical sweep to hasten commencement of Labour which she did,  I came home   after strolling a distance all in the name of exercise, had a warm bath then waited jejely for hubby to koman contribute to the inducement of Labour .

He came home asked about my visit, because we all have been eagerly waiting for her arrival having setup her room, packed my bag 'et al. I told him everything,  then coerced him into us having hot steaming coitus, mind you being preggy ddnt reduce my sexual appetite infact it increased it sooo much and hubby was at my beck and call.

By 3am I felt a sharp pain, used the bathroom to empty my bladder and that was the beginning of the drama., lie down back, no way!, sit down, no way!.. I just started praying for the safest delivery of an alive healthy baby because that's the way hubby and i prayed for that stage. Hubby suggested we go to the hospital but I refused and told him to come pick me by 12pm because I was already monitoring myself and the contractions instead of going to the hospital and being told to pace around.

Fastforward to the said time 12pm, hubby being a time keeper called to say he was driving home, meanwhile I called my mum around 7am but she got to my house around 9am. My mum was even surprised as to how calm I was to the extent that she said things like "it hasnt even started, when it does i'l know,  stop sitting down......". Hubby got home, and we went down to meet him only for my mum to say she forgot her phone, I had to climb 3 storey building to get mum's phone for her.

Driving to the hospital didnt take long since the hospital was so close to the house(tertiary one ).. while going to the Labour ward, hubby would make sillyfunny jokes as to how I was squeezing my face and all. But on examination after admission the midwife found out I was 8cm dilated it became emergency, because certain long things/protocols were cut short. Delivery procedures like when to push to avoid tear and weakness wasn't new to me. My membrane was ruptured manually and within 5mins aftr ARM , I pushed twice with episiotomy while contracting  and my mini-me came out weighing 4.2kg which I praised God for, now that was were my bittersweet story started.

My placenta ddnt follow suit, so it kept me in there for an hour and my mum/hubby became worried, I knew the implications so I started calling God,reminding him of the convenant we had and his promise of my birthng like the Hebrew women. After a while it came out but left behind some contents, which needed to be evacuated manualy. During this procedure I screamed and screamed even more than I did while birthing my baby.

You know when a full arm is being fixed into your uterus just to  manually peel out the remaing membrane,  thank God I ddnt bleed soo much because it would have been crazy. The Registrars both senior and junior were there considering the fact that I am their colleague.it was done ,I was packed up and sent to the recovery room and discharged on full  recovery After 3days.

After the usual 6weeks post natal visit I was still bleeding which was unusual and i felt my menstrual cycle had returned,  I had to go to the private firm I registered with to lay my complaint, since the doctor is a gyneacologist and i was sent to run a pelvic scan which confirmed I had retained fluid which antibiotics could clear. I took the drugs and went back after one month and the fluid was still there as seen on anoda scan . By now it was almost 2months and 2weeks. Took another set of antibiotics and finally on the 3rd month I manually aspirated the fluid. My baby and i are doing well and I'v even resumed my normal coital entanglement. I love coitus, its best when you got no guilt doing it. *winks*

OMG..You made love when labour started? *eyes wide open*

  3. @Namesake,simply put, Crowning is when you begin to show through the vaginal opening during contraction
4th degree tear is that tear that has reached the mucosa of the anus. It is deeper than an episiotomy(which is second degree)
@ Posters one and two,I am happy that both of you are doing great. Thank God.

  26. Wow! That manual extraction of acenta is excruciating! I had a miscarriage @20 weeks and had to be induced to deliver the baby(Sleep on my little prince,Gabriel. Mummy loves and misses u so much!). After the baby was born, placenta refused to come out and the nurses had to go in to my uterus with their hands to tug it free. I saw hell! I screamed and screamed and screamed!!! The pain is indescribable...labour pains is beans compared to it. I was left traumatised. My next pregnancy,I might opt for an elective c.s biko.
