NYSC To Post Corp Members To Farms

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Suleiman Kazaure, said on Monday that the scheme would soon begin posting of corps members to farms.

Mr. Kazaure said this in an interview with journalists during his official visit to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Sagamu, Ogun State.

He said that the move to deploy corps members in farms as in line with the agricultural development programme of the NYSC.

According to him, the NYSC has concluded preparations to begin the posting at the conclusion of the three-week orientation exercise.

He said that Bauchi, Oyo, Kebbi and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, had been earmarked for the pilot phase.

“It should interest you to know that the NYSC will soon begin its agricultural development scheme where corps members will be posted to farms for their primary assignments.

“Already the NYSC has acquired active farmlands across the nation’s geopolitical zones with four already fully operational in Kwali, Bauchi, Oyo and Kebbi.

“After this orientation programme for the Batch ‘A’ corps members, we will begin posting some of them to these farms as a pilot phase.

“Though we are starting with four states for now, we will integrate the other states as time goes, the project is ongoing,” Mr. Kazaure said.

The NYSC boss had tasked the corps members not to seek white-collar jobs which were non-existent but rather develop their potentials for entrepreneurship excellence.

He said the corps members could begin their journey toward financial independence by tapping into and maximising the benefits of the NYSCs Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme.

Mr. Kazaure said that the SAED programme was made possible by partnership with public and private sector organisations to build entrepreneurial capacity.

Gladys Mbachi, the Ogun Coordinator of the NYSC, thanked the director general for the visit and emphasis on SAED programme.

Mr. Kazaure’s visit was to inspect facilities at the camp and to familiarise himself with the 2017 Batch ‘A’ Stream I corps members undergoing orientation at the camp.

  13. Agriculture is going to witness a Boom and the people that will reap so much are the ones that will key in quick enough.

Farming is lucrative and as long as they will be LEARNING, I feel it is a good initiative.
At the end of their service year, they would have even set up businesses plus the stipend paid by the federal government.
Unfortunately, No one wants to 'suffer'
People are eager to say NYSC scheme is dead and should be scrapped, but 2 years after NYSC the only money they ever earned was from the 'dead scheme'
Some even wish they can go back to camp again.
Moat have even gone ahead to take jobs that are not paying as much as the NYSC they so much dislike and underrated. LOL

Some that will scoff at this idea actually rear chickens behind their homes to support their regular income.

If this goes the way I feel it should, It is indeed a gold mine waiting to explode. That is, for the ones that will utilize this opportunity. FG should better have a working plan in place before dispatching.

  14. Nice initiative aferall some graduates studies agric related courses; this can also help those with idea and initiative start up a small scale farm, however, hope everything that would make this worthwhile is in place? Else it'll be another exercise in futility!

  19. @Ola wealth;
that is the most foolish statement to make; really?
They should stop posting corp members to farms and you want food to be cheap?
Are you not joking; where do you want to be posted; bank, oil company?
If someone read agriculture, animal science, crop science etc. where do you want that fellow to work in? What was the intention for reading such a course?
Farm is the way to go
