Tinubu Revives Coup Fears,Says Some People Want To Abort Nigeria’s Democracy

Former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu on Sunday urged Nigerians to be vigilant, warning that some persons want to snatch democracy from them.

Tinubu, a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said this in his message on Democracy Day and second year of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Tinubu’s comment may not be unconnected with fears that there might be a coup plot.

Recall that Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, less than two weeks ago, said he received information that some individuals were approaching some officers and soldiers for political reasons.

The APC chieftain, in a statement by his media office, said ”Democracy Day and our commemoration of it must be more than an empty ritual. It must add up to more than another reason to have another holiday.

”We, as a people, choose democracy as our preferred form of governance not because it would be easy to achieve or to hold even once we have it.

”We choose democracy because history has taught us that the welfare of the people is best and perhaps only secured by government responsive and accountable to the people. This can only be democracy.

”Many Nigerians have fought and sacrificed to enshrine democracy as our way of governance. We mark this day in honour of these people, many of whom laboured in obscurity and without proper thanks, to achieve this precious thing for the nation.

”We mark this day to keep in remembrance that we must not take this good form of government for granted. We must keep and nurture it, not for democracy’s sake, but for our own sake.

”We must remember that should we fall asleep, there are those who would like nothing better than to take our democracy from us,” he said

    1. In as much as military rule is bad some of these political thieves would not have had the guts to steal monies belonging to the masses...

I am told in Ghana market women who sold above control price were flogged between their thighs, though it's barbaric but people need it to reset their brains!

  8. To me we've not been practising democracy if I may say because if we had things wouldn't had been like this...you see this form of government has been deterred by our so called leaders, they've all failed us they no nothing than to get there pours secured just too greedy for the betterment and the constitutional right of the peoples of this great nation...even the so so called tinubu himself is a chief monumental thief , all is trying to do is to secured is so called curruptful and dominancy interest...let not get it twisted if the military interceptions is what's gonna bring this country back to form or normality it would be generally welcomed....if the meritocratic system has failed then let's give the dictatorship system the second time trier regardless if is not in fashion around the world or not.
