I had my mouth wide open watching this woman speak Yoruba and she speaks it better than me...
I really cracked when she said Orisirisi...

  1. Yoruba is the most spoken language in Britain (excluding english). I'm a proud son of the soil.

  3. Though she tried but, it's not a big deal! A lot of Nigerians speak multiple international languages and nobody stare at them or congratulates them for speaking the language.

I'm sometimes surprised when I see some Nigerians acting as if is a big deal for a person from a foreign country to speak a Nigerian dialect.

    1. Madam I beg to differ.

It is a VERY BIG DEAL.
      OVER BIG DEAL SEF.

HOW MANY NIGERIANS CAN EVEN SPEAK ENGLISH????

I've lived here almost 19 years. I have Yoruba friends. My grade school was in Ikoyi,Lagos.
      I go to the market.
      I work in Lagos.
I still cannot communicate in clear cut Yoruba.
I'm not one tenth as coherent as this Oyibo.

It is a very big deal.

And I don't know the kind of places you go to or if you've ever been abroad, but everytime a Nigerian speaks a foreign language such as German, Chinese etc there is always that extra warmth and camaraderie from the owners of the language, why?

Because it is a BIG DEAL.

    4. Anonymous, where I live its not a big deal. It only helped the speaker for easy communication especially in government offices or in social gathering.

I speak, read and write three international languages and I have a great knowledge of extra one language.
I'm not talking about Nigerian dialect.

Nobody stare at me when I speak with the indigenes.
So, I repeat, its not a big deal.

    9. No big deal.
I speak several foreign languages as well and the indigenes do not hang their mouth open that an African can speak their language. No surprises at all.
Nigerians are always impressed by anything the oyibo man (or woman) does 🙄

    10. Anon 12:27 extra warmth from the language owners when Nigerians speak those languages you listed mtchewww you don't even know what you're saying. They don't care!!! It's business as usual when Nigerians speak French, German, Spanish etc. Just like any skill, commit to learning it and you will grasp it. The British lady took her time to learn/understand so no big deal abeg.
