Ooni Of Ife Allegedly Collects Bride Price And Says Former Olori Wuraola Is Free To Remarry

Zynab Itohan Obahon the former wife of the Ooni Of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi is reportedly now free to remarry if she wishes.

The customary bride price paid by the revered monarch has been returned fully from the elders of Zynab’s Family in Benin City, Nigeria.

According to a source in Benin, the Ooni was initially reluctant to collect the bride price, but was persuaded by the Elders as a way of closing the controversial marriage and separation.

“She’s free now, she’s free…,” the Ooni was quoted to have exclaimed afterwards.

The Elders had sued for amicable settlement instead of a rough separation. Both families appeared relieved about this final foreclosure of the marriage that crashed before its first Anniversary.

The marriage which was contracted in March 2016 in elaborate ceremonies held in Benin and Ife hit the rocks before its first Anniversary due to yet to be confirmed reasons from both parties except hear says...

According to a reliable source, it was imperative that the bride price be returned even as it is just a token, adding that it holds significant value and meaningful according to tradition.

“When a bride price is returned, the man no longer have ties or right over the woman in question, and they can only see themselves afterwards as friends if they so desire,” the source said.

Recall that after the declaration of Olori Wuraola that she was done with the king, a Yoruba popular Ifa traditionalist, playwright, actor and author, Yemi Elebuibon opined on the consequence of a queen separating from a king.

While noting that Ooni would not be the first Yoruba Oba to be separated from his wife, Elebuibon stressed that marriage breakup is not very common among Yoruba Obas.

He said, “The wife of the Oba will be asked to consult Ifa and Ifa will give directions on how she will make the necessary atonement for her cleansing. In Yoruba tradition, a woman who has been married to a king cannot lay with any other man even if the marriage breaks up. But when the right atonements have been made, there won’t be problem.”

On the kind of problems which an Oba’s ex-wife might encounter if she refuses to undergo the traditional cleansing rites, Elebuibon said: “For the woman, she might not really have a problem but for any man who sleeps with a queen or marries an ex-queen without the appropriate cleansing, the man may die prematurely, he may be struck with sickness or there might be retrogression in his life.”

He explained that if an ex-queen wants to remarry, she will have to do the cleansing with her new husband. Both of them have to take part in the atonement procedures so that they won’t have any future problem.

    2. Very disconnected couple, maybe everything was even staged so that he has a queen immediately and later she is freed

    1. Exactly. Meaning there is still some spiritual ties and bond.

    2. Yes in a normal settings but when it has to do with the King, she is different because in the cause of their marital rites, some antonment has been performed, so she had to be cleanesed by been seperatefrom any spiritual ties to the King.

  16. The only cleansing she needs is to go to a God and let him make her whole again.
All those traditional kind of cleansing is demonic and she should not try it less she wants her life ruined.

  20. Ooni was reluctant because reluctant to collect the bride price back because it is not Yoruba culture. Some tribes think by returning the bride price you can pretend the marriage didn't happen. I understand that in certain cultures it has a strong meaning to pay the bride price back so the bride can be absolved of responsibility to the ex and can remarry. The two traditions have to be respected hence the ooni conceded by collecting it.

  21. Lol. All the fuss about returning the bride price must be strange to the ooni but abeg free my Edo sister. Let her remarry. Yorubas don't it doesn't seem to be an issue for them because most of their divorced women don't remarry, they just focus on taking care of their children but we if he doesn't collect it, he will be tying her down because our elders cannot accept bride price from another man for her.

  22. Ojibijibi, Olori is free indeed. The yellow pepper will soon remarry. She is hotter than akara oku. But wait, if she marry oyibo man like our dearest Stella, will the oyibo come and do cleansing abi na atonement? Again, adornment for what if I may ask? For marrying Ooni and be separated or what? Wuraola go and enjoy your life biko, fame is not force.

  23. Another one bites the dust!
There's something painful about a marriage breakup: the abortion of a future and the plans therein.

May they find peace in their separate lives.
