House On The Rock Pastor Paul Adefarasin Breaks Silence On Tithing in Church

The general overseer of House on the Rock, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, has broken his silence on the controversy trailing the payment of tithes in church.

Adefarasin was apparently reacting to a controversial comment by an OAP named Freeze, who said no Nigerian Prophet, Pastor or General Overseer, GO, is qualified to receive tithes from their members. Mr Freeze stressed that tithes were only meant for the Levites, who were descendants of Levi the son of Jacob and Leah and “no one else.”

Reacting, Adefarasin admitted that God will not curse anyone, who refused to tithe.

Tithe is a way to show that God is the supplier of your resources. God blesses and I respond with my 10%. It is an honour system, it means the money is not your God. You won’t be cursed if you don’t tithe but when you tithe you are saying you recognise Him and it keeps the cycle moving,” said Paul Adefarasin during a mid-week sermon.

He did not make everyone a preacher, don’t let anyone tell you to take your tithe to charities, elsewhere.”

Further, into the sermon, Adefarasin spoke about people attacking the church. In his words, “A guy can not just show up and say he is an overseer. He can’t. Overseer from where? Who is your father? Who ordained you? Where are you coming from? John Doe can not get up and say he is a pastor, there must be evidence of righteousness in his life.”

Anyone that attacks the body of Christ is not a Man of God. You can’t attack the church and call yourself a Man of God. We have to have decency and order in the Body of Christ. Paul said, Let everything be done decently and in order.

    1. If only Nigerian Youths will use the same energy they are using to hassle tithe to hold the Government accountable for the tax we pay(whether you like it not).

That being said, it's all this "one man church" that is causing this wahala, I know the orthodox churches always have different societies and groups/members that get the dividends of the tithe.

And the money has a way it trickles all the way to the top and is subject to auditing and crosschecking by anyone who demands.

    2. Tell them that the law that established tithes in Deuteronomy 14:28-29 instructs that the orphanages can receive tithes in any town.
It is not enough to just give pastors tithes if they do not have any plans for the poor in their midst.

Deut. 26:12 When you have finished setting aside a tenth of all your produce in the third year, the year of the tithe, you shall give it to the Levite, the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow, so that they may eat in your towns and be satisfied. 13 Then say to the Lord your God: “I have removed from my house the sacred portion and have given it to the Levite, the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow, according to all you commanded. I have not turned aside from your commands nor have I forgotten any of them.

  5. Funny how fear has been infused into tithing. Many pentencostal pastors have put so much fear into the heart of their members that "calamities will befall them if they don't pay tithe".lol. I love my Catholic Church, they never ever said "pay your tithe and chase the devourer away". Nigerians pay their tithe regularly but they don't pay tax. I don't pay tithe, I do the needful which is "help people who are in need" as Jesus said. I'm not a tither and I don't feel guilty.

    1. Catholic church preach tithe. My husband is a staunch Catholic. I use to be until lately. My husband doesn't fail when it comes to tithe and I know very well those reverend father preach tithe very well. In fact before in the parish we attend to attend, they didn't call for tithes openly, people pay without anyone knowing but now they call for it. People come out, drop their tithe , they pay for them and sprinkle water on them

Most Pentecostal churches I've been to they ask people who paid their tithes to come in front of the altar to be prayed for. In Catholic Churches you won't know who paid or who hasn't they pray for everyone.

  11. The point that needs to be raised is paying tithes is not compulsory, and the fact that you don’t tithe does not mean you will not be blessed. However; Nigerian Pentecostal churches try to tie tithing to blessings, which is not stated in the Bible and should not be the case. What people really have issues with is the flamboyant and extravagant lives these pastors are living with the proceeds from the tithes. These monies are to be applied towards the sick and needy, giving back to the community etc and not to be funding a pastors private jet setting lifestyle. The pastor Paul that is talking, he should tell us how he is funding the banana island mansion that he is currently building. How can a pastor be building a mansion in banana island in the midst of all this poverty and hunger in the land. Is that what Jesus would do? Me I have stopped tithing, no pastor will use my money to build mansion in banana island or buy private jet, rather I app,y that money directly to the source ie the needy. I would rather pay for someone who can’t afford to pay his hospital bill or pay school fees for someone who is hard up, give a donation to motherless babies etc. Nigerian pastors are playing on the ignorance of their congregations and it is a big pity. On that last day, we will see who will enter the gates of heaven between me who doesn’t tithe and all these 419 yahoo boy pastors

The pastor kind of supported what freeze has been saying but still being a pastor he couldnt just outrightly discourage people from it. There are a whole lot of things to do by you as a christian to please God but you guyz are not doing them it's only tithing that you guyz held unto, can't you see that there's a problem here? Even the likes of queen of synagogue is claiming to pay tithe after worshipping her amadioha! Odiegwu! You guyz should go and read your bible and stop being stupid.

  14. I have been sending my tithe to my widowed mum, as I cannot afford to give both tithe and her, save for rent, feeding, transport and still save and pay tithe on my little salary. It will be nice if I can do all. But I just cant right now.
I use to send her money before, but not every month. The joy and prayers she sends to me anytime she receives it is worth it.
I just sat down one day, and though I attend a very rich church. Yet my mother is in need and I keep giving to this rich church monthly. My mum hardly request for things, but I know she has been struggling as a widow. Even struggling to feed properly. My sister also sends the little she can, but that will be for her bills.
Eventually when the economy is better I may start paying tithe again. But for now my family needs that support.
I am not for or against one paying tithe. But I had to revaluate my life one day and choose what works for me.

  20. The law of tithes specifically stated that the widows and orphans and strangers should be part of the tithes.
Deut. 14:28 At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns, 29 so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.

So pastor, if you do not have "a list of widows" in need like the early apostles did in Acts 6, I will take my tithe to any orphanage or widows charity that distribute food and clothing to meet their needs.

  21. With due respect, sir, you've not said anything worthy of attention; nothing new. Yourself and other Nigerian pastors have to admit that you've based your teachings on Tithing on a misleading foundation and make amends. May be its time for Pentecostal pastors, priests or whatever designation they answer to to make restitution.
You've called us robbers before now because according to you "we rob God".
You've taught us before now that 'we are cursed with a curse' because "we rob God".
You've taught us before now that we shall labour in vain because God will not rebuke "the caterpillars and cankerworms" for our sakes.
Do you not think that you've played long enough on our ignorances? Don't you think it's high time the church made a u-turn and began to teach what's right? Trying to incite 'the church' against those asking pertinent questions is evasive. If seeking to know is unacceptable then Hosea 4:6 should be expunged from The Holy Bible and no mention of it should ever be made in Christian teachings.

Stella please play fair and post.

    1. Don’t mind them, most pastors are thieves nd I am unapologetic about this!! Is it because of the situation in Africa that they psychologically use our head ? Tithe is once in every 3 years according to the bible , pastors that don’t want to die but them wan go heaven, is that one a pastor? After all muslims kill themselve sto go to heaven, as silly as it sounds , they believe in their paradise. But Naija pastors have securities folllwinf them up and down but would tell the congregation that God would protect them. Who are we deceiving? Are we following the pastors or what the bible clearly wrote? Jesus nd his disciples didn’t pay tithe. In the Old Testament, animal sacrifice was accepted but we don’t practice it now, so why make it look like if we don’t tithe we would experience tightness? Leave people who don’t tithe to God !! After all the money is for God like u guys make us believe. Is God physically collecting this cash? No!!

  22. Why are they making it seem like not paying tithes will stop God's blessings? My husband and i have not paid tithe for more than 10years yet money dey flow yafun yafun. We have a lot of orphans we train in school and even kids with parents but whose parents are not able to train them plus children of our domestic staffs. So it doesn't necessarily have to be paid directly to any pastor or church pls

Malachi:3:10. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.

  25. You all be deceiving yourself in your catholic cults....not all Catholic Churches do the same things tho..if you see praise and worship in some Catholic Churches you will bow....I was born catholic but left cos I started to read my bible more and God convicted me of a lot of things....most Catholics have no personal relationship with Christ and just go to church to fulfill the motions of mass...the over worship/honor of Mary, genuflecting to images of Jesus and Mary, knighthood and all other rituals they do are all idolatry.....Christianity is all about Jesus, the Holy Spirit and your close walk with him...any Catholic who truly becomes born again and spend time in prayer, praise and worship and reading the Bible must surely be uncomfortable with the rituals of the Catholic Church...it's a challenge, try it
