Love,Religion And Marriage

Should religion of intending couples matter ?

Religion is not just about going to church (or synagogue, or mosque). It’s about how you decide to raise your kids, spend your time and money, where you choose to live, how you choose to live your life and how you choose TO SERVE GOD!!!

Marriage and relationship can be unpredictable...but God is one God, so it irks me when a relationship can't proceed  because of different family religious background.

For some religion of the parents does matter, while for some it doesn't.

For married couples of different faith, how did you cross that bridge.?

Should intending couples abandon their relationship because of different religious background ?

Let's discuss!

  3. Religion matters and is very important.
The bible says two cannot work together eccept they agree...
Having the same beliefs helps in raising children right

  5. My dear Stella, such an interesting topic especially since I witness this first hand. Husband and I are obviously both Christians but different churches. Well, my family refused. Still hurt me till today that they chose not to come to my wedding, I had to use extended family and friends in place of my family at my wedding and thank God for such wonderful in laws. Husband and I have known each other for seven years, he’s practically done so much for me in all of those years, loved every fiber of me, helped me grow, contributed financially towards everything that concerns me, stood by me even when my own immediate family never did, made me get to know God more and even taught me how to pray better. Such a good man which even my own family said they are aware of but for the fact that we are not in the same denomination, we can’t proceed. Well I chose hubby over their want. Has caused a big rift in the family since then. My family do not even talk to me again, and I’m absolutely fine with that. As long as we are all doing fine, that’s all that matters. Stella, maybe I’ll send you the story. It’s way more than this but this is just putting it nicely.
Prior to us getting married, we obviously knew the religion part was a big issue for my family, so we discussed it and agreed that we both will compromise. I’m not forcing him to switch to mine and he’s not forcing me to switch to his too. We shall both attend each other’s places of worship and bring our children up in the Lords way. Of course there are doctrines different in both religions, and even those we don’t agree with, so we have agreed to add the good from both religions and neglect those we do not entirely agree with. We Thank God for his mercies so far, really.
And obviously, we both know having the same religion helps the whole family, and I personally wish this didn’t happen to me, but my husband is the best man ever. I love this man and he has proved himself worthy time and time again

    1. Both religion. Or domination?? When you say both religion that means you practise separate religion but you already said you are both Christians.

So your case isn't a religious case. It's a domination case. Like where a Catholic would want to marry only Catholic than marry from a pentecostal church

  8. Stellar...Religion is all about beliefs and a certain way of life. If two people don't believe in the same fundamental issue how can they work or walk together?

We must agree to work together....like why would two sane people agree to bring up their kids in a confused home? Daddy goes to Church and mummy is a Muslim but grandma and grandpa doesn't believe there's a God....like seriously!

Please stick to what you believe in and are comfy with and in getting...please get someone who shares the same beliefs with you. Finito.

  9. I believe when it comes to marriage, Pple of like mind and religion should stick together. A Christian doctrine is absolutely different from other religion be it islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, bahai' faith,Judaism etc. The bible said we shouldn't be shouldn't be unequally yoked but what what does that mean? The phrase “unequally yoked” comes from 2 Corinthians 6:14 in the King James Version: “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?” The New American Standard Version says, “Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?”

A yoke is a wooden bar that joins two oxen to each other and to the burden they pull. An “unequally yoked” team has one stronger ox and one weaker, or one taller and one shorter. The weaker or shorter ox would walk more slowly than the taller, stronger one, causing the load to go around in circles. When oxen are unequally yoked, they cannot perform the task set before them. Instead of working together, they are at odds with one another.

Paul’s admonition in 2 Corinthians 6:14 is part of a larger discourse to the church at Corinth on the Christian life. He discouraged them from being in an unequal partnership with unbelievers because believers and unbelievers are opposites, just as light and darkness are opposites. They simply have nothing in common, just as Christ has nothing in common with “Belial,” a Hebrew word meaning “worthlessness” (verse 15). Here Paul uses it to refer to Satan. The idea is that the pagan, wicked, unbelieving world is governed by the principles of Satan and that Christians should be separate from that wicked world, just as Christ was separate from all the methods, purposes, and plans of Satan. He had no participation in them; He formed no union with them, and so it should be with the followers of the one in relation to the followers of the other. Attempting to live a Christian life with a non-Christian for our close friend and ally will only cause us to go around in circles.

  14. In my opinion religion matters alot. I won't marry a person who doesn't share the same faith with me irrespective of whatever promises and agreement he makes before the wedding, to avoid stories that touch.

  15. People should date and get married on the confines of their religion without straying out of it...

It doesn't make sense marrying outside your religion, well unless you are going to convert. I'm not about to raise kids in a confused home. Where I'll be going to church, the husband will be going to mosque. So where would the kids go?? Would they stay at home? Would they go to church today and go to mosque tomorrow? What doctrine would be imbibed in them??

  19. Stella u dey ask? Kole work rara. It's just a costly mistake.
Whatever joined u two together, will fly off d window wen d trouble starts.
People off different denominations, still find it difficult to cope, how much more different religion
And who told you we all serve one God? Some serve god of wood, iron, stone, queen of coast, star, the devil himself & The Lord Almighty.
So, not d same God and not same place in eternity. Some heaven and others, where their gods reside.
