Iya Ibeji Series - Shaving Brouhaha

Sometimes you have no choice!

Last week I talked about how my friend that pur to bed recently and that made me remember my own experience.

When I was about to have my twins I was booked for a Caesarean section so before I came to the hospital I tried to shave, I couldn't do much because the tummy block road so I no see well.

Before I was willed to the theater a nurse came to shave me, as they were preparing me the head nurse came and she started complaining that I wasn't properly shaved and she left. I thought matter don end for there.

She came back with a young doctor, showed him my privates and started again

NURSE : Doc see what Nurse XYZ shaved, that's how MD will see it and start complaining.
For my mind, I was like na my private this woman hawk like this, for this young doctor wey never marry, is ok. The doctor i felt was uncomfortable he just nodded and left. The normal me would have reacted. But when you are going for an operation that is not the time to commit sin, so I just held myself.

My hubby was close by, I looked at his face to see his expression, bros just blank. Everything no be shout, if it was easy he would have done it himself.
Na so head nurse begin dey shave me dey rant. I was asking myself shey na cow this woman dey skin abi wetin.

I had to wait for about 6 hours for the MD to perform the operation and the whole time I was a good girl. My husband did some things that annoyed me but I blanked. Me that used to get irritated easily and blame it on pregnancy hormones, but during the wait the hormones respected themselves.

I just wanted to be without sin you know just in case.

After the operation I forgot all the things I said I was going to tell the nurse and my husband, I was overwhelmed with my babies and grateful to God for life.

*I dont even understand what the shaving is for...they dont get to the hairy part na..lol

    2. "The willed (sic) you to the theater?"
So you wrote your WILL before going into the theater?
While they were WHEELING you in, did you cry?

Stella dey ask why them dey shave?
Same reason why as a journalist, you write your source of news if you must copy.
      Otherwise . . .
Well the doctors are trying to prevent the wound from ever being infected; a lot of
microbes are in those tuft of hair. And a little piece of hair inside the wound will be
interpreted by the body as "foreign matter" and it will accumulate pus (the body's defense
      system succumbing while fighting it.)

  8. The lady that called the young doctor to come and see your abunga before shaving it not a professional nurse. Believe me she's either an auxiliary nurse or chew. They're the ones that report everything to dokita before doing their work.
Sdk shaving is done before surgery to prevent the patient coming into the theatre with microorganism that might contaminate the operating room or infect the post op wound. you know some women are very dirty. They can stay years without shaving that temple. And you know human hair either on the temple or armpit harbours a lot of microorganisms if they're not well washed and shaved.

    1. Thank you for explaining why.

    2. Not just that. The main reason of shaving is to avoid foreign body like Hair getting into the site of incision as this will lead to poor wound healing or even wound breakdown. And of course the mon pubis (the part where Hair grow) is close to the site of c/s incision.

"Sdk shaving is done before surgery to prevent the patient coming into the theatre with microorganism that might contaminate the operating room" lollll.

      Seriously????

"you know some women are very dirty."

It's hard to believe you are educated much less a STUDENT studying nursing. You can make your point without denigrating your gender and yourself. Trust me.

      Oh,I don't SHAVE,does that mean I'm dirty??? Suegbe.

  17. Hmmmm. I went for HSG on Tuesday, the way they opened my body and were dissecting was so humiliating. Its a teaching hospital so there were students, after opening me the Dr was showing them my uterus with my legs wide open. Different people kept coming in and all the while my lower body was exposed. Thank God for the nurse with me,she was heaven sent o. She calmed me and allowed me hold unto her throughout the painful procedure. At a time I started crying not because of the pain but I felt so humiliated and embarrassed, the nurse, the doctor and one male radiologist pet and calmed me. So grateful for them. Sorry,I know its not related to the post

  21. They used to shave before, but I don't think they do shaving anymore here in North America. Maybe in extreme cases where women come in looking like the Amazon jungle they will trim down, but no bald shave.
