NAN reports that the retiring officers were pulled out at a colourful ceremony in Lagos amidst cheers by family members, colleagues and other dignitaries.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Criminal Intelligence Investigation Department (FCIID), Peace Ibekwe Abdallah, who represented I-G Ibrahim Idris, commended the retiring officers for their service to the nation.
“Congratulations to all the retiring senior officers and to their families, we say a big thank you for the support.
“As you bow out today, the I-G, the entire police and the nation say a big thank you. You have served well and God will reward you abundantly,” she said.
A retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Tunji Alapini, who represented Police Service Commission (PSC) Chairman, Musiliu Smith, also advised the retiring officers to be wary of the environment they were retiring to.
“You are retiring into a new world; the world of the police is different from the world of retirement.
“A lot of people are waiting for you thinking you have money to invest, you have to be wary and careful,” he said.
Among the retiring officers were AIG Abdul Bube, AIG Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison, CP Agyole Abeh, CP Joseph Agaji and CP Gbemisola Akinpelu.
Others were CP Bello Ahmed, CP Abdullahi Ibrahim, CP Bello Yahaya, CP Adekinte Ademoju, CP Wakili Maye, CP Fave Semili and CP Ahmed Magaji.
55 police officers of the ranks of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Commissioner of Police (CP), Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) recently retired from the force across the country.

OK.. But the IGP is due for retirement by 1st January after attaining the retirement age and there is a purported plans to extend his service as the police boss. Are there different rules to retirement in this country? We also saw a retired security personnel becoming the current DSS boss. When will the system ever work for everyone irrespective of whom you are?

ReplyDeleteSo Owoseni has spent 35 good years in Service that means he should be very close to 60 if not already. He looks quite young. And fresh unless camera effect.
ReplyDeleteHe can easily pass for a man in his 40s yet over age and frail looking people are still in service claiming football age upandan.
In my organisation which is almost 50years since it was established, it appears nobody was born in the 50s. As we are entering the last batch of people born in the 50s that is 1959. Yet nobody is retiring . It's like everybody was born from the 60s. All of them are retiring only if they reach 35 years in service. In goverment job it's either 35years in service or 60 in age. Which ever comes first. Even my CEO joined the company in 1981 after graduation. He is still there adding no value, so old looking. He can't be less than 70 yet still working. Going about in snail pace because he is from the ruling region.
It's so painful why people refuse to retire in government work refusing others to grow. We are stagnated even as graduates cos Metusulas have refused to go and rest.
See Owoseni going honourably, he will still be useful to himself and family. Unlike some who may even die on top work as their body cannot carry the stress leaving Others to then enjoy the fruits of their labour.Luckily for them nobody is mindful of this age thing and they keep working till they finish 35years even if their chronological age is 76. One boss of mine was 76 when he finally bowed out even at that he was still fighting for extension. His junior brother working elsewhere retired at 60 years over 10years ago before him. His record of service showed he graduated 1976 and was still working as of 2016. Another had 1946 as year of birth in his passport which cold not be changed bc of the visas on it but was still in service as of 2013.
Anything is possible in Nigeria. The system sucks. No wonder people are still tripping to Stadium to campaign for a man of 80years. Abeg forget that 76nonsense. Na him own football age be that.
I shall use my hand to collect my gratuity and monthly pension.
