Senator Gershom Bassey is the current flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Cross River Southern Senatorial District. Mr Umera was kidnapped on Thursday night at Jebbs area in Calabar South local government area of Cross River State.
According to an eyewitness, Mr Ekeng Inyang, Umera was shot by the kidnappers before he was later taken into a speed boat same night. “The incident happened on Thursday night in his home at Jebbs. He was shot by the kidnappers and forced into a speed boat through the Anantigha waters,” he said.
When contacted on phone on Friday, Senator Gershom Bassey confirmed the abduction and assured the friends and family of his personal assistant that the kidnapped would be released.
