US Based Nollywood Actor William Uchemba Denies Fraud Allegations Heaped On His Head...

Former Nollywood child actor, Williams Uchemba, has denied claims of fraud against him after messages of him requesting money to arrange a delegation to a United Nations youth event in the United States went viral on Sunday.

A US-based Nigerian human rights activist, Edafe Okporo, had shared a screenshot of a supposed chat thread with Uchemba in which the former child actor allegedly said, “I will need three things from you: passport data page, email address and registration fee ($1,000). After payment is confirmed, I will then send you a questionnaire for you to fill and send back.

Following queries made on social media, United Nations Youth Envoy, Ms Jayathma Wickramanayake, who is an aide to the Secretary-General of the UN, António Guterres, said Uchemba was unknown to the organisation.

But Uchemba, in a series of videos on Instagram, disowned a Twitter account in his name as that of a known fraudster.
The former child star said he had warned his followers in May about people impersonating him and that he did not know how to stop impersonators.

He said, “First of all, I have said it tons of times, ‘Be careful with scammers.’ I have posted a lot of pictures of people using my name to defraud people. I have reported a lot of accounts.
“As a matter of fact, there is a guy on Twitter. I’m not on Twitter; I have never had a Twitter account. He has 15,000 followers posing to be me. His name is Williams Uchemba and a lot of people he has defrauded have called me to say, ‘There is somebody using that (name)’ and I don’t know what to do about that.

“Secondly, let me also state again that I’m the Deputy Nigerian Youth Representative, Youth Assembly at the United Nations, not ‘UN ambassador in the United Nations.’ These are different bodies. The people that organise the youth assembly are the Friendship Ambassadors Foundation.”

In the bio section of Uchemba’s verified Instagram, however, he is described as “Nigerian Youth Rep Youth Assembly at the UN.”
He added, “If you are aware of what is happening in Nigeria, there have not been appointment dates in the US embassy. If you check now you’ll be seeing April and the conference is in February. Some of the people we registered the last time couldn’t get appointments.
“In fact, the last one was horrible because nobody could go to the embassy. So we have a lot of delegates pending because we’ve sent their names for their invitation letters and they cannot go to the embassy for visas.”

According to him, after consideration, he decided he was not going to put his aspiring delegates through as usual, opting to register only people with visa, which he said was the original plan.
Uchemba added, “Now, some guy tagged me and I saw it and was shocked. I’ve never met him. He was never my delegate. He said, ‘Williams, you’re a scammer.’ I said, ‘Oga, why are you calling me out? I don’t even know you. What have I done to you?’
“He said, ‘People said.’ And I said, ‘But you didn’t even ask me.’ If you had come to ask me, ‘Why is this charge like this?’ I would have explained to you. I’m not the US embassy; I don’t give visa. When people come and say, ‘Williams, after we get the invitation and you put us through, is the visa guaranteed?’ and I say no.
“So, you can either do it yourself or we have people. The reason people pay that amount is that we employ people to do these things. We pay them. So, it is very disheartening for this information to get out without proper investigation.”

The former actor further explained that he had never heard of the Office of the UN Youth Envoy until the allegations of fraud were made against him.

  2. Lol benevolent indeed, see I admire people who give to society but does it have to be done in front of cameras? Yes, they argue that they include cameras to encourage others to give but my dear as a nation that we carry religion on our heads doesn’t the Bible say in Matthew 6:3 that “do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing”.

Why is he charging $1000 for visa fees to attend a conference. Whether he is guilty or not it’s now left for the authorities/UN to decide but just this weekend someone on Twitter was doing philanthropist and sharing money to people while owing someone for an artwork for months until the lady called him out. (You have money to share to people you don’t know but you’re owing someone after purchasing something from them months ago).

As far as I’m concerned, most of these benevolent people do these things for clout and for future political ambition. I wish him well.

    1. There's no crime in charging $1000 for us visa fees. The rate is even much lower than the agents out there.

The problem is that the $1000 is supposedly for registration.

    2. The $1000 is for registration that is supposed to be $215 or so, his $1000 is minus Visa fee

  4. When they suddenly become charity doers and motivational speakers na scam dem dey do they know most nigerians are gullible. He has been parading as a youth ambasador with UN . But the conference is organised by FAF who rents UN building . They have no connection with UN. It cost 225 dollars when FAF accepts u. And u try ur luck with the embassy. What uche has been doing is collecting 1000 dols . Reg u with FAF with 225 dols den send u to embassy that would reject u . So he pockets 725 dolls. 725 dols on over 2000 pple is what. Do the maths

  11. So, last year while I was in the US, i saw the UN Nations conference advert thingy in his page. I followed his page after i saw a post here on SDK that he relocated to America and got a new car. So it was his ACTUAL page. When he posted that update and said we should contact him, i did. He told me exact same thing '$1000 bla bla bla' I responded, telling him I already had a US visa and infact was in the US as I text and I just wanted to attend. He said I should pay $600 but if I want to register myself its okay. However, personal registration may not guarantee approval to attend. Bla bla- the marketing psychologu thing.

Now, as a personal principle I dont outsource things I can do myself. If I outsource it, best believe I cant in any way, shape or form handle it myself. So i didnt see the point giving him $600 when I could sit down and prepare my application myself. I'm a mgt. consultant and I can pacakge documents forever, not an issue. If I add a few $100s to that $600 na ticket sure pass and i can avoid hotel bills by staying over at my friends place in New York. So I guess this is what people paid for. The packaging. Abi??

I sha didnt attend again. I'm now thinking of going for next year's own sef. Uchemba should be careful, so that UN doesn't strip him of his association with them. If you want to make money off attendees, arrange a hospitality service for them ONCE they get to the US that does not have the 'UN' attached to it. Do it as a business for conference attendees, not just Nigerians. You can guide their applications and not request a fee. The way this is going, they may give close scrutiny to next years applications.

Nigerians too... lets learn to apply for stuff ourselves. Our laziness causes all these unnecessary brouhaha.

    2. Chikito, thank God you didn't give him any money, he has no business with UN but youth assembly, its just like having a meeting or seminar and using ECOWAS building and then start parading yourself as one who works there, the NGO only used UN building that's all

      Delete
    3. It could make the US embassy here to shun visa applicants for this whole UN Youth Conference thing.

It's not just him making money from this, I know someone who is cashing out big time in Abuja. You pay $1000, they register you and give you documents to go for Visa interview. It's up to you to convince the interviewer, if you don't get visa, it's your hardluck.

I had a colleague who paid the money and got visa. An in-law paid but didn't get visa.
The thing is, why pay anyone for information and documents you can easily do yourself. Unless excess money is worrying you.
I have never paid an agent for anything

William is afilliated with the @theyouthassembly, yet they do not have anything in their bio linking them with the UN, William on the other hand had the enfontry to put the UN up in his bio, and the worst thing is that as this dust was raising he went on his page and started editing stuff, just because you rent hall from UN you are now their rep? What is he trying to front and achieve with all that?

  14. Let's call a spade a spade. Biko. A fraud is someone who makes people believe what isn't real facts and I say Uche is a fraud. In ur bio, you boldly claim UN ambassador and now wen being called out u say u work with an organisation who uses UN building for meetings meanwhile time and time again, you have always behaved and written on numerous pictures suggesting to be affiliated with the UN and UN activities. When called out now, you cry foul, you all give decent, honest, hardworking Nigerians a bad name. It's sad that we don't respect ourselves and integrity and you will still see Nigerians defending this person. This country no fit move forward with people like this and his ilk. It's so sad.

    ReplyDelete
  15. please do go through @theyouthassembly page. The body does not have any official representative. It has ambassador and Williams is not one of them. Secondly, since yesterday Williams has been editing and deleting previous post on his page. Unfortunately, some still carry united nation youth assembly. The event is not even holding at the UN this year. So what do call someone who misrepresent himself in order to make money. I think that is the definition of fraud.

    ReplyDelete
  16. it was not a UN conference but an FAF meeting and they got no affiliation with UN except use rented hall within the UN premises.. But Williams was busy scamming people with the name UN rep

  20. Stella, there’s nothing to be confused about, Williams Uchemba is a scam. He claims that someone else is scamming people with his identity, meanwhile on his bio he boldly put that he’s a UN youth ambassador whereas the UN released a disclaimer that they don’t know him. So why did he put that on his bio if he didn’t have the intention to scam? Why did he edit it after UN released the statement? Do you guys know that Williams was beaten last year in that UN because of this same issue, he was called out on instablog last year too? But majority of the comments said it’s his enemies that are trying to bring him down because he just announced that he bought a house. Some even said he’s a philanthropist so he gets a pass. Let me tell u Stella, it’s a psychological thing. Most people who are “public” philanthropist are criminals, they’re premeditating their downfall so they make the public see them as good people so when their dark secrets unveil people would excuse it or won’t believe it because “they help the poor.”

Charity is the way scammers and fraudsters use to buy good name in the society. Don't forget philanthropists like Abiola (ITT), Fred Ajudua, Ade Bende, late Victor Okafor, late Maurice Ibekwe, etc. In my books, Uche is fraud and just got busted. His denial is expected. Or do we expect him to come out and admit to the scam?
