Omugwo Chronicles 58

Its been a year since we posted the Omugwo Chronicles....Mother in Laws dont go visiting anymore?LOL...

Dear Stella,

I promised to resend my Omugwo story but hustling no gree us settle down to write.

On a perfect Wednesday in November 2017, God decided to bless my family with a wonderful baby girl.
It was my first time as a mother and I didn't understand myself as I was recuperating from the stress of Delivery.

My MIL is just too much, infact she is the reason I am still married to my husband. In my culture, it is the husband's mother that performs Omugwo duty.

My MIL arrived for her special duty as soon as she heard I was in the hospital, she actually came to the hospital from church as she didn't have her clothes with her and she was with me for the 5 days I spent in the hospital. She learnt how to bath for me and clean my cut, she took care of my baby, she supervised the peircing of my daughter's ear and this was a big deal to me because my MIL is a staunch CAC member. Infact she was my support system.

When we got home, she did everything. I mean everything, well except pooing for me. She cooked, cleaned, washed, carried baby, everything you can think of. All I did was to sleep, breastfeed and recuperate. She was the one who coordinated the baby's christening. All she did was run things by me and asked if I was okay with them.

And when the news came that I had been laid off from work, this wonderful woman did everything to make me 'forget' that I didn't have a job anymore.
She gave me gifts of new clothes, blankets for my baby and most importantly she showed me true love.
From the little they had, herself and my FIL bought my beverages till my daughter was 3 months old.

My Omugwo was a wonderful period for me as I had all the support, love and care a new mother desires and deserves courtesy of my MIL.

I want to use this opportunity to say Thank you to her and to every Mother out there who show genuine love to their child's spouse irrespective of religion or tribe.

*MIL : Mother - in - law
*FIL : Father -in- law

Warm Regards.

*Awwww,so sweet!!!

  7. Probably Yoruba. For Yoruba’s it’s the man’s mother that comes for Itomo... not the woman’s mum.

  21. I love my parent in-laws,they are the best. I'd I complain about hubby to them then he knows he's in trouble, I probably would have ended things with my husband but his parent are like the glue holding us together...hubby accused us of a gang up against him lol... his siblings are not left out as well... am so blessed with good in-laws. Sometimes I feel more in-laws lucky than husband lucky. Hubby tries but misbehaves alot I.e hangs out with friends more than he spends time at home, comes back late e.g 12am, 1am, 2am etc. Drinks, smokes and sometimes abuses drugs- has cut down on the drugs though but doesn't womanise and takes good care of his family.

  29. I have to go anon on this. Mil is the happy now and sad later type so, you don't know which one of her moods you might encounter. She's been fighting with us since the beginning of the new year and over the period of our marriage, has been one fight or the other!
I just pray God softens her heart and she visits a therapist soon!
