MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition triggered by a terrifying event either by experiencing it or witnessing it (MFMER, 2019). Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event. It is natural to feel afraid during and after a traumatic situation but to be diagnosed with PTSD, an adult must have all of the following for at least 1 month:

Re-experiencing symptoms include:

 Flashbacks—reliving the trauma over and over, including physical symptoms like a racing heart, sweating, pain, feeling sick or trembling.

 Nightmares

 Scary thoughts

Avoidance symptoms include:

 Staying away from places, events, or objects that are reminders of the traumatic experience

 Avoiding thoughts or feelings related to the traumatic event

Arousal and reactivity symptoms include:

 Being easily startled

 Difficulty concentrating

 Feeling tensed

 difficulty sleeping

 anger outburst/irritability

Cognition and mood symptoms include:

 Trouble remembering key features of the traumatic event

 Difficulty maintaining close relationships

 Negative thoughts about oneself or the world, hopelessness

Distorted feelings like guilt or blame

 Loss of interest in pleasurable activities

 Feeling detached from family and friends

 Feeling emotionally numb

Anyone can develop PTSD at any age. It can occur among people who have experienced natural disaster, childhood trauma, serious accident, terrorist incident, sudden death of a loved one, war, violence, assault such as rape, or other life-threatening events. The main treatments for people with PTSD are medications and psychotherapy.

Hmmm, this mental health issue is really a lot and little things we take as normal are indeed illnesses!!!......nawah oh

EMERGENCY ADVICE NEEDED

Good day Stella, kindly help me post this in chronicles section or anywhere else you deem fit so I can get advice from blog visitors that have towed similar paths. Thank you.

I am a married lady of 30 with a child, based in Lagos. Hubby and I currently work but I have been making plans to establish my catering business because I have a strong flair and passion for that industry. The preparation for that is ongoing presently . Recently, an avenue to work and relocate to Dubai came up, there is provision to get jobs there for my husband and I and we can relocate with our baby.

Now, I am torn about which path to take. I have been gearing up for the catering business for a while, making plans and all but now, I have the choice of working in Dubai to consider too. Hubby is leaving the final decision to me because Im the one that was making plans for catering here in Lagos (restaurant and food delivery service),he has a good job and prospects here and in Dubai, so he doesn't mind living in either places.

Please I need input from people who know more about things like these or have been confronted with such decisions before. I need to make a decision ASAP so we would know which option to face and commit resources to. Thank you for your feedback and advice.

I cant help you on this....In Dubai, the life there is not cheap, the more you work and earn, the more you give out.......its up to you my dear!!!

I'm a corper, married, hubby doesnt want to take his eyes off my allawee. He said I should also be contributing towards the running of the house which I agreed to be dropping 10k every month...yet this man no wan let me rest. If I ask for any thing, he will say shey you have money. Even this election that is coming up, hes also expecting me to give him the money. He works and earns but wont take his eyes off mine. I dont know what to do.

* I dont understand why you are complaining..Is it because you take out money for the house or cause he wants your cash?...My dear if you are working and dont have a man, wont you use money to take care of the house?

Wait wait wait......what exactly do you mean by dropping money? Are you giving him the cash or using it to maintain the house?Dont give him any money please...buy what needs to be bought and save up the rest!!!...

Na wah oh......what kind of man looks out for his wife's salary? Some men are so petty!!!!

My people I have a question o. So I went to my fiancé’s house. Usually I see him one night and then leave. So one day I decided by myself to go and spend the whole weekend with him. He grumbled angrily under his breath quietly that I should not let him over eat this thing before marriage.

Chei, I was ashamed and shocked. I packed my load on my head the next day and left back to my house. Since then I have been respecting myself and only when we agree to see that we see.

He’s taking steps to start formalizing the marriage now and he will go see my parents soon to officially request for my hand in marriage. This couldn’t happen cause he was sorting his paper. Anyway, can’t wait till it’s official. But I am shocked that some men can think like this in their mind!!!! God!!!

I felt I was just enjoying my fiancé and we were spending quality time together! It is well o..

*''Over eat this thing before Marriage''..My dear, you have a situation in your hands oh...If over eating exists before Marriage in his eyes,it will exist after Marriage...Study this man well before you Marry him....there is something off about how he let you go.....Cant a woman stay with you and you decide not to gbensh?

Shine your eyes!!!!!

SHOCKING MAIL BLOG VISITOR RECEIVED TODAY

''Dear Esteemed Customer,

Thank you for choosing Sterling Bank.

Following a directive from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), please be informed that a lien of up to N11m (Eleven million naira only) has been placed on your account due to alleged outstanding tax obligations, which we are required to deduct and remit to the service.

For more information on this directive, please contact your Relationship Manager or reach out to your One Customer Centre''.

The mail I got from Sterling bank today and as soon as I checked my account , I discovered my account is in debit of over seven million naira. I went to the bank and was told by the BM where my account was opened that I should go to the FIRS. The most shocking thing is that there was no mail stating the name of my business or the 11m that sterling bank has placed a lien on my account on the mail that was received from FIRS by sterling bank.

No document from FIRS indicting my business name for not paying tax to the tune of 11m naira, please note that I registered this business name in 2016 December and haven't even made a profit of 2m naira , thereby warranting a tax payment of 11m naira.

I'm taking a legal action against Sterling bank. Please has any other BV experienced this unholy wahala today?

Regards .

  1. MAYBE GOD ISN'T ANSWERING YOUR PRAYER BECAUSE SOMETHING EVEN BETTER IS COMING.

    God is a merciful God.
I think we sometimes forget that when we get wrapped up in the pain we’re experiencing, the people we’ve lost, and the things we don’t yet have. We focus our attention on the ways that God hasn’t measured up to our human standards and we find ourselves disappointed.

We see what He hasn’t done for us instead of the many blessings we’ve been given.

And sadly, that’s natural sometimes. That’s human. But it doesn’t mean that we’re right. It doesn’t mean that God has abandoned us or that He isn’t true to His promises.

It just means that what He wants for us is in His time. Not ours.

It’s so common to pray in our hard moments, to lean on God when things are spinning out of control and ask for some kind of guidance, some sense of direction, some idea of what to do or what path to head down.

I know in my toughest times I’ve reached out to God, hoping for a clear answer. I’ve prayed, looking specifically for my prayers to be granted rather than for Him to mold my life to His will.

Sometimes I’ve prayed so hard for something and felt utterly defeated when I didn’t get what I wanted. But weeks, months, years later I see that if I would have been given that thing I wanted, I would have lost out on something even bigger and better. Something I didn’t even know I needed.

    Because God has bigger plans.

I’ve prayed for love to come into my life at a certain time, but if God would have given me love, I wouldn’t have become stronger and more independent. If things would have fallen into place at the college I prayed for, I wouldn’t have attended the school that shaped so many of my future friendships and dreams.

God listens to every prayer. He hears every word that we whisper from our lips; He knows our thoughts and even our hearts. And He listens. But just because He isn’t granting our prayers in the way we want Him to doesn’t mean He doesn’t love us.

Here’s the thing: I don’t have an explanation for why things are imperfect or why we can’t always have a pain-free life. I don’t know why God doesn’t give us things we want right away or why He doesn’t always take the suffering away from the ones we love. But what I do know is that we are sinful people, yet He loves us. And He wants us to really have faith in Him, to lean on Him when times are good and bad. Maybe that’s why hard things happen to us—so that we grow in faith.

God loves us so deeply. Even when He doesn’t answer our prayers.

He has a bigger purpose and over-arching will for our lives that doesn’t always line up with what we want. But He knows better. He knows not only the biggest hopes in our hearts, but what’s to come in our lives and how it will bless us, strengthen us.

And sometimes He doesn’t answer our prayers in the way we want Him to because He’s sheltering us from pain.

Sometimes it looks like He doesn’t love us, when really He’s granting us the biggest gift. A gift that we won’t realize the weight of until much time has passed and we’re already bitter at Him for supposedly abandoning us in our time of need.

Trust me, I get it. I know how hard it can be when you hope and pray and wish for something to change in your life, for something to fall into place, for things to just make sense and it doesn’t. I know the ache of not getting what you feel you desperately need.

But know this: Maybe your unanswered prayer is God giving you something better than you ever imagined.

You just have to have faith in Him, in His promises.

“The Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”

    —Deuteronomy 31:6
That is His promise—to stand by us, in pain and in peace. He’s not going anywhere. So please trust Him, even when it feels like your prayers are floating into nothingness, even when it feels like He’s not listening.

    He is.

He just knows what we need.
And He will show us in time. _Marisa Donnelly

  17. Stella, let's do a post on how and when you made your first million.

Mine was last month, my brother is an land agent, he had this deal he has been hoping on closing, unfortunately for him, the client disappointed him. I now came into the picture. This Christmas, I went to hang out with my cousin that just got back, he introduced me to his friend , the friend was looking to purchase a land, and he met my brother. We didn't even know he was serious, this guy I'm taking about is so young and smallish, but has money o. He sha bought the land, did all the paperwork. I got my own commission. Just like that 1 million naira. I didn't even expect this, I didn't even know how it happened. To think that I only had to give the guy my brother's number. Just that, when my brother asked for my account number, I was expecting like 100k, but saw a million. And the land is work miliionsssssss. Chain!!!. Shout out to the latest millionaire.

Stella it is a suggestion o, if you can do the post. See you guys

  61. Bv that is thinking of relocating to Dubai with her hubby and a baby, do not relocate to Dubai if you have better work/business in Nigeria. Dubai is now a very expensive place to live in. And it is not getting any better.
Now, you have a child, and you are expected to start work, depending on your child's age, she/he will either start school or be dropped off with a babysitter(which cost min. 50k per month). Schools here are all private schools and does not come cheap. I pay a total 1.6 million naira a year for my kid(grade 1) and we are talking about one of the cheapest schools here. House rent is a story for another day. And the fact you are a family, you must get either a studio or 1 bedroom apartment and the rent out one room to meet up with rent and water& electric(crazy bill BTW) and internet bills. Then you talk about feeding, transport expenses. Infect there is so much to really look into before making that final ddecision.UAE is no longer the UAE of 2000 - 2016.
I would always advice anyone that has a good job or business in Nigeria to stay back and reinvest that fund you would use for visa, flight and other expenses in the business and be more creative.
N.B, if you must travel out of Nigeria, try Canada or scandiScandi/Nordic countries.
All the same, I wish you the best in your decision.

    2. With all the expenses you mentioned, you are still in Dubai and you are discouraging her from relocating. There is no country that doesn't have challenges. Most people overseas are there because of the exposure for their children and good environment. It's not the same dubai of 2000 but you aren't planning to relocate back to Nigeria?People are relocating not because they don't have good jobs, but because of insecurities. No matter how rich you are,Nigeria will fail you one way or the other.Madam, you can start you catering business in Dubai.Check IG and see people making money with catering business in dubai.

    3. There is no country that isn't expensive.Start from Dubai and get your travel experience, you can process Canada or Australia from there.

    4. @Bibire, nne, i stated my opinion only. Amd like i said there are a whole lot i did not talk about. Yes i am still in Dubai because i have built a stable and strong career here and have investment back home that gives me some sort of financial stability. Sometimes i take money generated from my investments back home to run some things here. And i have just a child that i can comfortably care for. Now lets bring it back to this young couple starting life, they have a child for now, and definitely will have more kids, multiple the fees i stated above by 2 to 3 more kids to see the strain expenses will have on their finances and also their marriage.
Let one of them come here first, while the other person stays back home and continue with his or her job/business, then if the one here is able to settle properly, then the one back home can come over.
You talked about catering business and the gold mine it is in Dubai all from IG pictures and lies. nne, pls be logical, you are talking about catering business without license, abi you think it is easy to own a business in UAE where you pay your local sponsor 500k to 1000000 a year just to be yoir sponsor. Then you talk about other legal fees and procedures for business ownership.
When you started, i thought you are smart and logical untill you came up with the smart talking and catering business you see on IG.
There are issues of insecurities and like you said Nigeria will fail you so why not save up and relocate to a country that will atleast give you affordable or free education. A country where you get permanent residence and will not face the fears or going back to the same Nigeria when you contract expires and the company you work refuses to renew your contract for you.
Anon that wants to relocate, pls be mindful of what you take in , include my own advise cos at the end of the day, the consequences of your decisions will be on you and your family alone. Also if you relocate at the end of the day, look for a teaching job(school will give your husband and 3 of your kids residence and heath insurance) or go into child care( you can do it without registering a business name and if you have upto 5kids in a month then you will be making 2500 dirhams and this amount can do a whole lot for you in a month. Catering business here for the IG people and real life people is a side hustle, but then wont tell you that.
I wish you all the best.

      Delete
    5. You really nailed it when you said getting a licence and a sponsor. Many of us in Nigeria have the hustling spirit and forget regulations and rules. You are a foreigner there so be careful. I don't know if you would be catering Nigerian dishes or Arab cuisines. So just think well. Then again I don't like discouraging people. Some people's luck can help them pull through where others struggle. I have seen it happen again and again. Let her try her luck bearing in mind that it's never easy in the first few years in a foreign land.
