France To Invest In French Language Promotion In Nigeria

The French Embassy in Nigeria has pledged investment in sports and educational programmes to promote French language speaking in Nigeria.

The French Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Jérôme Pasquier, made this known on Sunday in Abuja at the Abuja Schools Competition organised by the Institute Francais, to commemorate the International Francophone Week.

Pasquier said that a lot of Nigerians love to speak the language, adding that investing in sports and educational programmes would help to achieve this goal.

The ambassador said that since Nigeria was surrounded by French speaking countries, learning French language would enable people engage more in trade and connect with neighbouring countries.

Nigerian is surrounded by French speaking countries of Cameroon, Niger, Chad and Benin.

    1. Anonymous, I disagree with you. I repeat your question to you: how many countries dey speak Spanish? Did you put out your question because America is contemplating on making Spanish it's 2nd official language of her Latino population? Even in the European continent where the language originates from, how many countries, apart from Spain speak Spanish OFFICIALLY?

In Canada, the two official languages are: English and FRENCH.

The three major working languages of the European Union are English, FRENCH and German. German is the most widely spoken language in continental Europe.

Spanish is mostly spoken in the Americas, especially Central and South America. Mexico is the only North American country that speaks Spanish. There are 21 Spanish-speaking countries in the world and mostly (apart from Spain in Europe and Equatorial Guinea in Africa) are found in the Americas.

Like it's said in the article above, Nigeria is surrounded by French-speaking countries and not Spanish-speaking ones. So it's only logical to learn French.

Anyone who's America (North, Central and South) inclined, should be learn Spanish and/or Portuguese (if you like Brazil).
For Europe inclined, French/German learning is it.
