Success' Head Teacher Suspended And Renovation Of School To Commence After Viral Video Brouhaha

The Delta State government has suspended Mrs. Vero Igbigwe the headmistress of Okotie-Eboh Primary School 1, Sapele Local Government of the state, following the viral video where little Success Adegor was sent home over her parents’ failure to pay her examination levies.

She was suspended on Monday when the Commissioner for Education, Barr. Chiedu Ebie, visited the school.

The head teacher, according to the commissioner, could not explain the alleged illegal collection of examination levies from the school students.

A statement by the commissioner said that primary and secondary education in Delta remained free, insisting the head teacher had no right to impose any levy.

He said: “In my brief encounter with the Head Teacher this morning, there appeared to be numerous inconsistencies in her response on this issue as she was unable to categorically state who authorized her to impose the levies or fees which is in clear breach of the extant rules.

“Consequently I have directed the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to suspend the Head Teacher pending the outcome of a formal enquiry into the issue of unauthorised levies/ and fees imposed by her in the School.”

He further said that a contract has been awarded for the renovation and upgrade of the infrastructural facilities of the school.

    4. mumu comment...people wont read to comprehend before commenting...as for the little girl i dont now what scam you are talking about..it was not her mum who recorded the video so i don't know which one you are talking of data or scam. all the money people have been donating have gone to her mums account because the donations were not solicited, people started donating on their own free will. at least i saw the call from AY to her and the mum sent her account number...na her luck and people donated voluntarily so she owes no body how the money will be spent

  8. Goverment does not fund schools.

Imagine giving headteachers 20000 monthly as running cost

The Educational secetary always ask the headteachers to run the schools themselves however they can.

    1. We only here of free education for government schools but do government really fund them.

I see this as defence mechanism from the government.
Do they really provide money for chalk, exam papers , dustbin, dusters, board markers , seminars for these schools. The leave the schools to sort themselves out and now this.
Government should better sit tight and open the dictionary to learn what the word 'free' means.

I know some schools overdo it but I know most of them use it to augument whatever small amount they get from government.

That woman should better get good lawyers and sue the government.
Schools that should be doing bambi Allah for fund.
Mtchew, it is now that their eyes open to the condition of the school.

If this was a private school, the first sanction will be to close down the school. Were they blind before and didn't know the state of the school.

  11. Anytime I read anything about this little girl I just smile. She's pulling a lot of weight cos of her stubbornness and sharp mouth.

It's annoying how she would have missed the exams cos of some fee that's illegally collected. Her name go follow her go far.

  15. why would they suspend the head teacher when they are getting their own share from it? there is no money collected in schools that those at the office are not getting their own cut, or they want to tell me they don't know that this pupils pay for examination in delta state, as usual there must be a scapegoat and Success head teacher is the one in this case.
