Chronicle Of Blog Visitor Narrative

Oh dear!!!!!!

STAND ALONE NARRATIVE

PREGGY ADDICT

Hi ma'am, ...

Pls I need an advice on this: I had an accident sometimes back in 2013, I was hospitalized for like 3 months, and I inhaled the hospital odour which made me loss appetite after I was discharged.

So I find it so difficult to eat and I was growing thin everyday by day. Then, there's this friend of mine, who came visiting and then introduced some medicines to me which are 'xas*** and nov***** ' it actually worked for me, using it gave me appetite and I had more flesh.

So after my full recovery, I decided to stop so I won't be a drug addict and I was afraid of abusing drugs, cause I felt once it had worked for me, stopping it won't be a bad idea, but I noticed each time I stop, I would suddenly go so thin like a sick person, and everyone would keep asking if I was sick.

So I showed it to someone recently and she said she wasn't too sure it's a good idea I keep using it, because of my condition (pregnancy) and she said it seems it has some bad effects. The challenge now is, am afraid of using it so it won't affect the pregnancy, at the same time, I don't want to be looking like an HIV patient. Please I need a real and genuine advice, cause I never knew it actually has a bad effect, until I showed it to her recently.

Please Doctors in the house, please help a sister. Thank you

*This thing is in your mind, not in the tabs..........stop talking tablets totally and do lots of fresh fruits and salad if you dont have appetite....Please try!!!

  2. You’re pregnant, stop joking with your health and taking prescriptions from people who aren’t licensed to, go to the hospital and find out why you don’t have appetite unless medicated.

  3. Self medication is wrong. Ah!
    Speak with your doctor first

  6. What???? Xasten is a steroid. You can't use it in pregnancy, just as many other medications. It is actually the side effect of weight gain that you desire. However, it can cause other harm to you and your baby if you do not have a medical reason to take it. This also applies to regular people without pregnancy. Please don't take it. Trash it now!! Lack of appetite is normal, just try and eat the foods that you like. Do you go for antenatal classes? These should have been covered there. Talk to your OBGYN, okay? Good luck.

  9. Your doctor should be the one advising you on this. I'm sure you registered for ante Natal, ask there nau. Don't play with your health and that of the baby o

  10. You need proper medical care. How can you take something that you do not know what it was created for. Pregnancy is such a delicate time, these drugs could even cause birth defects you don't know. It doesn't even seem like you are under the care of an Obstetrician. Go get proper medical care.

  11. It's never a good idea to lose and gain weight sporadically while pregnant. Fats turn to cholesterol and baby eats that and it can ruin fetal development specifically the brain.

Speak to your doctor, you might be placed on insulin. Stop worry about your weight so much, focus on the health and wellness of your baby even if that means you don't gain weight as you wish.

    Sending you Love and Light.

  12. Xasten is a STEROID!!!Dexamethasone is used to treat autoimmune conditions, Rheumatoid Arthtitis(when it is drug resistant),respiratory pathologies and CANCERS!!! It has a very severe adverse effect on the Adrenals when used chronically. And it is definitely Terratogenic ( has a negative effect on fetal development). What in God's name is wrong with some of our fellow Nigerians??? Silly friend and Silly Poster! When she introduced it to you, couldn't you at least Google the medication?? Did you ever go to a Physician for help with your appetite? Of course Not! Are you not even interested in your long term health? The weight gain you are experiencing is Cushings syndrom due to excess cortisol. Keep taking it, we will soon have a plea to contribute for medical attention in IHN

    1. Good analysis
      Good rebuke
But you ended up not giving any solution
on how she can stop it knowing that it is addictive,
the body develops tolerance and there are withdrawal effects etc.
In effect, it should be tapered gradually and urgent medical help is
      needed.

    2. She should go to a freaking medical doctor!! She will be properly reviewed and medical history taken before any solutions, as you call it, proffered!!!

  14. Register for Antenatal and show your doctors the medicine you've been taking.
That first one (generic name: Dexamethasone) is a steroid, is addictive and can
damage a lot of organs in your body. It is not supposed to be taken without a doctors
prescription. But Nigeria being what it is.
Not only will it affect the baby/pregnancy outcome but it will also make the baby
addictive to it when born or develop adrenal insufficiency Addison's disease.

What the doctor will do: Is to check the dose you are currently taking and taper it
to a stop, NOT A SUDDEN STOP. Please it is preferable you go to a teaching hospital,
your gynae will refer you to a proper physician.
Please madam, don't play with your life and that of the unborn child.

Pls see ur doctor quickly

  18. Madam hope you know while pregnant you are prohibited from using many drugs and supplements except the ones your doc prescribe and tell you it's safe to avoid birth defects, low weight and development problems.
Go to hospital and tell them of your lack of appetite. They will tell you what to do. Many loose appetite and even weight first trimester. It happened to me too. I was so ill.

    ReplyDelete
  19. You need to stop taking anyhow drugs out of doctor prescription for the sake of your pregnancy

    ReplyDelete
  20. Take your 'pregnacare plus' religiously along with calcium.

You can change your fruits to juices and smoothies, that way you consume more than when you chew.

Even if you don't add flesh you'll look fresh and healthy.

    This too shall pass.

  21. What?! Did you discuss this medication with your doctor? The xasten is a steroid and extended use reduces your immunity. It is not a drug to be taken or stopped suddenly because of the risks attached including fatality.

I would suggest you visit a doctor urgently and "confess all your sins". You can work out together how to wean you off the drugs and an alternate plan to build your appetite.

    Wish you all the best.

  22. Madam go to the hospital and stop taking steroid, please for the sake of your unborn baby, please go to the hospital before we hear stories that touches the heart.

  23. Some people have two lives fa. That is why you will ingest just about anything even in pregnancy. Should this be classified under ignorance or illiteracy? Last last go to a good chemist nau if visiting a doctor is beyond you. Please receive sense abeg!!!

  24. I am not in the health field but these drugs sound like they would come with a warning ' not suitable for pregnant or nursing mothers' in caps.

  25. Dear ma, its very simple, to eliminate this particular excess behaviour, you need Aversion Therapy. See a Professional Psychologist, a good general hospital can refer you to one .

  26. ...for your loss of appetite and weight loss complaints, be very honest with your doctor about your situation, they would know the appropriate diet/meal plan they would place you on, especially in your pregnant condition. Please pregnancy is a very critical time in a woman's life, do not take medication outside doctors orders. Cheers

  29. Loss of appetite while pregnant is one the symptoms of pregnancy nah especially in the first trimester. U were taking a drug recommended by someone and even in pregnancy u continued? Don't u attend ante natal classes, haven't u been told it's not good to take any drug except recommended by your Obgyn? Madam pls, better go and meet your doc ASAP and tell him/her everything. Didn't u even consider the baby in your womb b4 taking those drugs? This is how u will use your hand and birth a baby with physical and neurological anomalies.

I have always said it here, every woman( especially in child bearing age, whether single or married) should get the book ' Every Woman'. Not just buying it and then use it to decorate your shelf, please read it, cover to cover.

Anytime u have any issue or question concerning your health as a woman, go to the book and check u must see an answer.

  31. Ah Stellz, which one is preggy addict? It doesn't concur with the body of the chronicle.. had a different story on my mind before reading it.

Poster, i'm sorry about ur predicament, maybe Stella's advice would work... give fruits & vegetables a try, leave d drug out for now. It will most definately have an adverse effect on ur health and that of the baby's... Afterall, the weight loss isn't as a result of any sickness or disease, just that U re not eating as well as U should.

    Good luck dear!

  32. I'm shook that you're taking medication a doctor didn't prescribe. Then e come be such dangerous medication on top of pregnancy.

    1) Go and report yourself to a qualified obygyn. I find it difficult to believe you're doing ante-natal cos they would have asked about any medication you're taking
    2) Go on Facebook and look for Nsikak Effiong. She creates and sells food plans for people with different goals - pregnant women, people trying to lose or gain weight, women with PCOS trying get pregnant, students on a budget, people wanting skin glow, etc. She's not a doctor so she won't give you advice on drugs to take or stop, which is why I say you should go to a doctor first. But she will tell you the best foods and smoothies for you to gain weight. No, I'm not her and I don't work for her; she just does really good work

  34. So Xasten & Prednisone arent good for the health, not to talk of long term term use.... and thats what i have been using to control severe allergies. Thank God i was able to wean myself off it before pregnancy. Now i know why i suddenly looked like Shamu. All these ikwokirikwo pharmacist that recommend deadly drugs to people, may God judge you oh.

    1. Steroids are actually used in the management of severe allergic conditions, you need to conduct your research appropriately. However, prolonged use comes with its own complications, no be ikworikwo pharmacist matter.

  39. How people swallow drugs just anyhow amazes me. Poster even if you are very ignorant of what you've been using, wasn't this pregnancy supposed to make you pause and think about putting any drug in your system without medical consultation?
Carry yourself to a hospital asap because you are not even supposed to stop using the steroid abruptly.
Lesson to all of you who come online to seek solution to health challenges, it mostly doesn't solve anything rather you're adding to the issue on ground and making it worse.
Something is wrong with you, go to a doctor!!!! Don't come online asking questions or seeking for diagnosis, don't ask from your friend or neighbour who is not trained to diagnose!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Poster see a doctor that will rule out the cause of weight loss and poor appetite you are having. Another angle is that you should also see a clinical psychologist because of the history of staying in the hospital for long and then suddenly lost your appetite. That is like over 6 years .Does it mean that you still perceive the odour of the hospital, after 6 years of discharge?
You can eat late at night to gain weight. Google fruits and foods that can make you gain weight. For the fruits you can make juice or smoothie to help you swallow it easily. You can also use straw to take the juice and smoothie .
get complan milk, eat lots of swallow very late at night lets say 9pm. Your doc can also give you multivitamins which improves appetite and also safe in pregnancy. White bread, rice , yam , irish potatoes, plantains, spaghetti, chicken, meat, yoghurt, complan milk, eggs, soda and pastries.
    Good luck to you.

  41. How long did you take the xasten for? What dosage were you on? Then what is your weight? These will help to determine if you should be on a withdrawal regimen or not. You need to discuss with your obgyn and a pediatrician your drug history cause your baby needs to be monitored closely.

  42. This is what drug abuse looks like!!!

Your non- medical doctors friend prescribes a drug and you take it without going 5o see a doctor ?

In This age and time, it's not excusable.

See a doctor asap. You don't want to have a child with defects.

Couldn't you have taken multivite ?

It makes you hungry and you will be forced to eat.

    Flee from that friend .
