Nigerian Kelechi Madu Sworn In As Minister In Canada

On April 30, Kelechi Madu, an Igbo and a University of Lagos law graduate, took oath of office as Minister of Municipal Affairs in Alberta, Canada. Popularly known as Kaycee, Kelechi is one of the 22 new cabinet members Alberta Premier, Jason Kenney, swore in on Tuesday morning at the Government House in Edmonton.

He was also elected this year to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta representing the electoral district of Edmonton South-West. On May 21, he will be sworn in as a lawmaker. When that happens, this distinguished Nigerian will be serving in dual capacity as the Minister of Municipal Affairs of the Province of Alberta and at the same time a member of parliament representing his Edmonton South-West constituency. The ministry is the third largest in Alberta with over $3.7 billion portfolio and it is to be superintended by an immigrant that has sojourned there for barely 14 years -Vanguard report

Kaycee Madu hails from Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State and is a distinguished member of Mbaise Connect Global Initiative (MCGI).

  2. Great news here.... Not every time we get to read negative news about Nigerians outside the country.

Surprised Abike Dabiri(hope I got that correct) haven't broadcasted this but will be quick to post crimes Nigerians committed oversea and their death sentence. Maybe the man came from the wrong side of the country and as such publicity isn't necessary.

  4. Woww this is indeed a great news. If he was stil in Nigeria, he would have been wasting away. Buhari is busy putting his bunch of illiterate brothers and sisters in power without proper and sound educational pedigree. For any country to move forward, people with credible educational background should be the one on the forefront of the govt.

  7. Congrats, may you serve your electorate well and also be a good ambassador of your country. Progressive nations elect/appoint by reason of what you have to offer not where you are from or how deep your pockets are. Here in Nigeria the reverse is the case it is always who you know, your state of origin, your religion etc. No wonder we are where we are today. May God grant us leaders with capacity to change our narratives Amen.
