Sadly, social media has become a platform for Nigerians to report their challenges, problems and concerns because the people, the government and its parastatals have completely failed and collapsed at all levels.
Therefore, it came as a rude shock, a depressing tale of a country that 'kills' its own citizens when it was eventually confirmed that lovely and innocent Adewura has died. It is even more painful, unpleasant and irksome when you consider how she died.
She was not kidnapped like everyone had thought nor was she butchered! She died because of 'OUR' carelessness and negligence. How did she die? She fell in a manhole...a manhole that was supposed to be covered! How come the manhole was open?
The lackadaisical government official that was supposed to monitor them, the greedy man who removed the manhole and sold it, the man who bought it, the Nigerian who every day take that route and ignore the manhole as well as the government official who ride past that road in tinted convoy of cars and are blinded to these holes.
It then begs the question-what is the value of the Nigerian life? Uncle Jimi of Classic FM has asked this question severally! The life of a Nigerian is worthless, useless and insignificant. It is by the grace of God we are surviving in this country. Last...last...all of us go run go Canada! Like a singer sang: 'If no be God ooo...If no be God...I for don finish! OYO.
Nigerians have been killed by our ragtag security agencies, some have been kidnapped and never found while others have been murdered by armed robbers. What about Nigerians killed by falling containers, tankers? The list is endless...No apologies, we die like chickens in this country.
We can only mourn Kolade Johnson, killed by a trigger-happy SARS official, Stephen Urueye, Unilag graduate and House Officer stabbed to death by arm robbers, Rotimi Adeyemo, the LASTMA official shot dead during an altercation with a SARS operative who was later beaten to death by a vengeful mob. Remember the stray bullet that hit a mother at Onipanu in 2017 because SARs officials were chasing yahoo boys? See how the lives of Nigerians are 'wasting' in Rivers, Jos, Bauchi and Benue.
To show you that we are in an ill-fated country, the killers of each of the aforementioned persons and those not mentioned are on the streets planning their next attack and readying their guns for the next life to take.
The death of Adewura will probably attract so much uproar for the next few weeks or months and everyone will move on afterwards. Annoyingly the status quo will remain until another disaster happens.
This leaves the family of Adewura to mourn like others without closure. Will they ever get closure? 98%-no and 2% yes. That is our Nigeria!
Nigeria, please convince us that the death of Adewura won't go the same way as others did because Nigeria you killed Adewura! Yes, you killed Adewura! You murderer!
Who is the next person that will fall to the cold hands of the Nigerian manhole? Who will change the Nigerian narrative? Of course, it is not bubu...he is busy lounging in Aso-Rock waiting to leave in 2023 and definitely not the incoming governor of Lagos state. He is in the pocket of the man in Bourdillon. He dare not squeak! And the other governors? They are too weak to resist the temptation of stealing. Oh, Fela...Oh, Gani...Where art thou?
Whatever the case may be, all manholes should be covered and whoever dares touch or even as much as open it; should be shot immediately! Nigeria needs 'mad' leaders to give us brain! These avoidable deaths must be ended. We are humans from Nigeria and someday somehow we MUST get there.
For the family of Adewura, we know the pain is unbearable and the loss irreparable but...I am sorry...I am lost for words to comfort the family...the only good news here is that she was found.
Let’s us all continue to pray for Nigeria to become a better place for everyone-the rich, and the underprivileged. Love your neighbours…and let’s all pray we do not fall prey to the bad side of Nigeria!

Cam we now liken our Govt to a Yahoo?. Depriving the people of basic amenities. I remember the day I almost drove off Eko Bridge just because I saw the huge manhole late and swerved sharply. Take it or not, Nigerians are victims of a failed government. Na prayers dey keep those of us alive. That's why we are the most religious nation.

The rain that fell last Monday that left so many homeless, yet canals and manholes are not well covered. Some situations are better avoided.

ReplyDeleteOne day when I trekked from agbonbon going to costain, saw this manhole on eko bridge and it was in the night. Till I got to where I was going I was praying that none should fall inside because it will be in the middle of water in that eko bridge. I was never myself thinking of others that would trek too.

ReplyDeleteThe hole I saw in one neighbourhood a few months back could take a car. I kept asking the residents why they wdn't put something there to warn strangers but they left it till the state government worked on it a few months later. My advice is, don't dare heavy rain and floods. Stay put, especially when u'r not familiar with the terrain. I pray for the young lady's soul. May God give her family and loved ones peace. It's so annoying when ppl won't listen and wd rather be playing daredevil only to end up wasting other ppl's lives.

I watch bus drivers and okada riders smtimes and I wonder if they are sane.
It was reported the biker was told of d danger lieing ahead but as dey feel they have 10 lives. He didn't listen.
This has taught me a huge lesson. Pls if you are uneasy being in a vehicle. Be it ur personal driver,uber,bus,taxi or okoda. Just be vocal. And drop if d devil decides to use them that day.
Our Govt???that one is a failed system already. Cant type....

I somehow hoped it would turn out to be a kidnap case (worst case scenario ) and ransom would be requested. Never knew she was dead all along while she was been searched for. May the family be comforted by the God of comfort

ReplyDeleteAnother sad one is the 33yr old Igbobi nurse that was pushed out of a one-chance bus, broke his neck and was paralyzed from neck down. Rushed yo general hospital and they said no ventilator, he died outside the ICU.

Not again, such a beautiful lady. The only crime she commited is being a Nigerian, I mean finding herself in a country that care less about it's citizens. A country where the leaders are only concerned about looting and stacking treasures in hidden places and abroad. A country where police can be mistaken for a tout,they go about in random buses harassing and extorting people. A country where you don't get value for education. A country where people concentrates on religion than God... I'm one of those clamouring for military regime ,I don't care . Before you ask me if I've witnessed military regime ,yes I have .

DeleteThere are two types of Nigerian lives (1) The lives of the political/business elite and their children and hangers on is highly valued so much that majority of Nigeria's policemen that are paid with public funds provide them with 24/7 security; their health is so valuable that they deserve only the best healthcare in the best hospitals in Europe; their children deserve to be birthed only abroad and become automatic dual citizens and be educated in the best foreign colleges, they are the ones who can steal billions of dollars from the nation's treasury and nothing will happen to them. (2) The second type of lives are the lives of the ordinary Nigerian people -these include all those outside the political/business elite circle and have very insignificant or zero connections to them- there is no need to waste data or ink typing about their lives sef - their lives have less value than the life of a cow. They are the ones condemned to use the abattoirs called Nigerian hospitals, their children are the ones who deserve to study in roofless classrooms without chairs and tables, they are the ones who are harassed, oppressed and killed mercilessly on a daily basis by policemen and other agencies supposed to protect them, they are the ones who are sentenced to long terms of imprisonment for stealing just two tubers of yam or some small change or even without committing any offence, they are the ones that perish in the Sahara, Libya and the Mediterranean in their search for some meaning and value for their meaningless and valueless lives, they are the ones pitiably thrown crumpled N4000 every four years to sell four years of their lives to the elite at every election cycle, they have no rights in their own land, they are second class citizens in their own fatherland, they are the ones impoverished, pauperized, traumatized and afflicted with poverty and ignorance by the demonic greed of the elite. What value will they themselves place on their own lives. The parasitic and predatory elite have them where they want them.

We have abused democracy and do not deserve to have it. Politics is a business in Nigeria. It’s only in a sick society that it’s okay to execute projects with 10% and steal 90%. In many case they steal the entire 100% and have the next government re-award the contract then the cycle continues. Even the Abacha recovered loot was relooted.. The country surely needs a correction by the military.

I personally liked Abacha for some of his other qualities that I found interesting but I understand ppl's sensitivities and won't push that down anybody's throat. Abeg leave that thing. Military is not the answer.
