RE -The Lady Who Lied She Owned A House And The Ensuing Brouhaha

This is a must read,if you have time!

''Going by the reactions that trailed the encounter between the instagram lady, Blessing Okoro and the businessman owner of the house, Onyeze, it is safe to say that a reasonable number of us got no idea how a decent society operates. We don't even have anything against jungle justice. We only pretend we do.

The real tragedy is, it was a Police man we saw in the video that handcuffed the lady and supervised the whole show of shame which was recorded and posted on the internet.

A police man!

A supposed officer of the law!

In a society where the rule of law means anything, those who put handcuff on the lady, made her bend the knee and force her to look into the camera while recanting her earlier claim of owning the house would be facing the music for violating the lady's right to human dignity which is a fundamental human right, by the way.

You don't use the handcuff for the purpose of humiliating someone. It is mainly for restraining the person IF NECESSARY.

It would be understandable if this jungle justice was carried out by Onyeze and Co. Unfortunately, it was arranged and supervised by the Police.

To be clear, the lady's action was stupidly foolish. In fact, I believe she needs professional help. To claim to own another man's house and still 'get mind' to be portraying the real owner as a liar 'ontop' his own house and even showing some building plan to support your claim of ownership is beyond disgraceful.

But,

Let's keep emotion aside, in my view, none of these constitute a crime.

NOTE: I didn't say she didn't commit any offence. I said none of the offence, in my view, is of criminal nature. Not when she legitimately entered the house with the help of the gate man. Please note, it is not every offence that is a crime. Offence can be civil or criminal. And even if she committed a crime, it would still be beyond appalling for the police to determine, conclude and met out jungle justice without the judiciary like we saw in that video.

A crime is an act or omission PUNISHABLE BY THE STATE. For something to be a crime, THE LAW MUST CLEARLY SPELL IT OUT AS SUCH AND EVEN STIPULATE PUNISHMENT. It is not for you or even the police to conclude that a crime has been committed and proceed to mete out your own idea of justice on the victim. It is for the court to decide.

I have heard people say she is guilty of impersonation. And I asked how? Who did she impersonate? Claiming to own what you don't own is no impersonation. To impersonate means to claim to be who you are not for fraudulent or criminal reason. Some say she forged the building plan. That again is not a solid case because to forge something means to make a fake copy of the original. The building plan she presented could be any building plan. So how is that forgery?

How does any of these justify a police officer depriving her of her human dignity?

Now let us even ASSUME the Blessing lady actually impersonated Onyeze and forged his building plan, forcing him (Onyeze) to fly into the country at a huge personal cost. In a society that works, the gun-wielding police man we saw in that video would still be in trouble for acting in the manner he did, thereby violating that lady's right to dignity. The proper thing to do would have been to arrest her like they did and charge her to court IF THE POLICE REASONABLY BELIEVE THEY HAVE A CASE.

Civilization rests on the principle that we treat even our criminals better than they treated their victims.

The reason we wail against jungle justice is not necessarily because we think the victim is innocent. It is because we want a decent society where people suspected of crime or wrongdoing are given fair trial before their fate is decided.

It is a tragic irony to condemn a group of mob lynching a suspected thief in the market and still hail a group of people including a police man meting out the same mob treatment on another. The common denominator in the above two scenarios is that due process of the law which is the hallmark of any decent society was not followed. The only difference is that the Blessing lady was not lynched. But what would have happened had she refused to obey their command to kneel while on handcuff, look into the camera and recant?? They would have beaten her of course. Sadly, some of us cheering now would still have cheered. Not necessarily because we love Onyeze but because we feel the lady who made us feel like we are not trying our best is being cut to size.

Problem is, supporting rule of law only when our friend is at the receiving end of jungle justice and jettisoning it when we want to get back at our common enemy is how not to build a decent society''.

You are the one being emotional and ignorant of the law. If you can define FRAUD then you will know that your write up is wrong in every premise.

Handcuffs are symbolic in the fact that it is humiliating. In fact in civilized societies, white collar criminals ( which is what Blessing is) are handcuffed and made to do the walk of shame ( perp walk).

On the flip side, Blessing is not a victim but a criminal

    4. Let us call a spade a spade. She claimed another person’shoise even after being warned several times. Did videos in her nightclothes and also said she has documents to prove this. I sit until some gullible abroad person sends her millions to buy the so called house since she took pictures in there nearly naked ooo, is that when you will call her a fraud? By that time it would be too late coz the owner would have been in a mess. Not to talk of the problem she would have caused in the mm’s home.
She is a fraud and totally deserves what she got. She should be apologising not shedding crocodile tears. We are talking about a 7 bedroom house here.

They are just angry she made them feel insecure over lies and NOT that they love onye eze

The average Nigerian has a jungle justice mentality. Such a shameful and disgraceful thing to watch go down in 2019

Both those that snap infront of people's cars, hotels and houses are saying trash.

Her only crime to me is LYING dats all. The last time I checked; it's not a crime under the law

Onyeze is so childish. He would have only reacted if she tried selling his property. Or get a court injunction and restrain her entry into your property simple!

Rather they chose to do that rubbish and people are hailing his itiakwu head! Smh*

So the guy asked you to come over and you went alone?? So how did you do the 2nd video insisting the house was yours? Showing documents etc. How did you enter the premises?

Showing off a house that is not yours, why?? To encourage who? Fickle minded people like her will start wondering what they are doing wrong and may even dabble into dubious activities.

    3. Mr Charles Ogbu, you're a good writer and a good judge at determining what is a crime and what is not.
However, we live in a country where people's houses and other properties are being sold on a daily by such people (fraudsters). What this lady did was criminal in more ways than 'two'.
Why not wait until it happens to you then, you would know that judging from the sidelines and from inside the ring are not the same thing.

"Nigeria is far from an advanced country" infact we've not even gotten to the starting point of an advanced country, not to mention matching up.
To put the scenario in black & white, it can be argued that the victim was made to confess under duress, i'm not a lawyer but im sure a certain civil right has been violated there, i'd ask ronalda later sha... even if trully the supposed property wasnt hers.
But like i said, people with deep pockets have gone scotfree with 1st degree murder & undisputed evidence at hand, this is just a walk in the park. Theres no need dragging & reliving her humuliation, we all know how it'd play out at the end, it'd die naturally, then people will only use it to crack jokes & laugh, just as theyre doing to Oge okoye.... although Oge seems like a saint now compared to this clown character

They don't need her bail money has onyeze would have loaded their pockets, what she did was very wrong, she made videos, forged documents and claimed a house that isn't hers, who knows if she has the intention of selling the house? Before the video who knows if she resisted arrest before they handcuffed her? Who knows if she was trying to escape, she brought all on herself, if you don't thread the path of disgrace you won't be disgraced. Shikenah

Youd wear boots.. when ure in nigeria u should be careful wen dealing with the rich, cus they can easily buy their way out, which is very wrong but we all know it happens, and they also know thats why they do anyhow!

And dont say A police man would have taken her to the station, na lie... most police men would rather settle the matter there and collect Onye eze money there also, cus they wouldnt want to share with others in the station. Teejay u need to open ur eyes

She's very lucky she did that thing in Nigeria, and got away without any criminal punishment.

  13. Ever heard of trespassing? Law or no law, the Nigeria we live in is a peculiar society. Ever seen "this land or house is not for sale"? In which other country do you see such signs? Crime in Nigeria comes in different forms and continue to evolve. Once Eze did well by publicizing the arrest. It shamed the liar. It saved some frustrated people being oppressed with social media lies. This is a public service arrest. She and her co-travelers learned a hard lesson.

  14. Fristly, Blessing has come out to say NO policeman arrested her.

At this point, I am torn. But I know that the video of this whole drama was off to me. Its still not connecting.

From the very first time this story came out, Onye Eze na Chinco(lol) sounded very unbothered and even amused at first. In his words ‘Leave these little children to stunt on the gram’
Then Blessing kept insisting that house was hers and I feel The dude’s friends who are the ones fueling this decided to have fun.

From what Blessing said, They called her up and made her go live. The reason I think this particular part is true is because the reason it felt like a publicity stunt to me at first was because of what i noticed in the vdeo that circulated. How will Blessing in her right senses go Live and amidst the jeers and screams, she kept her phone on,talking.
The shouts felt like they were catvcing trips with ehr and inflating Onye Eze’s ego.

Onye Eze himself barely got involved. According to Blessing who has a penchat for lying, she was made to go live by his friends and they were the ones that cuffed her(dunno where the got the cuffs, another puzzle)
In her video threatening suicide, I find it completely shocking that she was merely concerned about convincing Nigerians that she was never arrested by the Police than actually talking about how her actions got her to this point. It felt like she didn't know she did anything wrong.
I hope she doesn't harm herself.

If she say it was a set up,let’s hear how it all happened.

    1. Exactly. She brought it on herself and will never live this down. Lying is like a plague.

  26. To a large extent, I agree with this write-up because the police and military have turned themselves into instruments available to the highest bidder who can use them to bully and oppress others. I would have loved it if civilians got together and forced her to recant all her claims and posturing.
Dear poster, you may say that she had not committed a crime - yet. But pray, tell us, what could possibly be her end game? Why did she go through this length to pass off a house as hers? You say it could be any building plan? Agreed, but it was a building plan she deliberately passed off as the house plan, there was no ambiguity to her intention to pass off that plan as proof she owned the property. What if this was her first step towards deceiving someone or an institution with the house? Please she had criminal intent and it was a good thing that with her mouth she confessed that the house isn’t hers.
However I take it that this write-up is to berate the police for not knowing their place/role in the society; to this I agree 101%.

  27. "a breach of a law or rule; an illegal act.
"the new offence of obtaining property by deception"
synonyms: crime, illegal/unlawful act, misdemeanour, breach/violation/infraction of the law, felony, wrongdoing, wrong, act of misconduct, misdeed, delinquency, peccadillo, sin, transgression, infringement, act of dereliction, shortcoming, fault, lapse;"

above pasted is a dictionary definition of offence. crime and offence are actually synonyms. I only agree with the writer to the extent that even though she committed a crime; handcuffing and parading her in the manner the police did was tantamount to an infringement of her right to dignity of human person.

But that been said, what she did can clearly be interpreted as criminal and punishable. Online fraudsters are not different. They simply pose as who they are not to induce people. A bank could have been induced to give her a high volume loan under the impression that she had the capacity to repay. An innocent man on the street could so easily have transferred money to her for the rent of that property been convinced that she was the owner. After-all you don't ask landlords for their root of title or see their property documents before renting a house. fraudulent misrepresentation is criminal. Obtaining under false pretense is criminal. Our laws recognize criminal trespass of property. Even though you may not be able to establish the consummated crimes against her but at least in my humble opinion her actions are preparatory enough and could very well establish attempt to commit any of the above crimes.

  28. If this shit happens in civilized world, she would be checked for mental evaluation, bcos what she did sounds unreal for a stable mind.

  29. what is this writer sayings so until she sell the owners house before you think it is a crime. Why do you think people write "Do not trespass on buildings and landed property in Nigeria". It is not for fancy ooo but to make people beware of criminal who will want to pass off a property as theirs and sell it. She deserve what she got. if she was not disgrace and the whole country aware she will go on to claim another person property, car or next will be a "PRIVATE JET".

  31. The writer is out of his mind. He should be speaking in the same voice for Yahoo boys. What if the girl put the house on sale just because she was not challenged to recount her initial statement of owing the property.
    Mad one.

  32. I will not bother to read the absolute crap written after going through the first two lines. I guess they set her up to go there the next morning in her nighties yeah? How you fools supporting her conveniently forgot that she made documents to back up her claims. If that isn't a crime, i don't know what is.

I pray and hope that one day, someone with a huge platform will create documents to claim your sweat, and you will seat and smile because you are decent. Been reading posts and passing, but this is one stupidity i cannot excuse. I am so disgusted. ordinary taking posts without giving credit is wahala, let alone millions of naira in landed property which she can sell off with those documents.

He protected his property as he deemed fit, and this was after laughing over it, thinking it was a small thing. You extend your pity to the poor man who was living his life on a low before now. Because trust me, with this emotional blackmail she is trying to do now, if i were the man, i will come back and actually make her do time for forging documents to prove ownership, trespassing into my compound numerous times, impersonation, and bringing potential harm to a private citizen. You think say na small thing.

Worst part is that she doesn't even feel she did anything wrong. If she feels there is nothing for her to live for, not even "bobo" and her kids, she should go ahead with her suicide plan WTF! I lost all empathy for her two years ago and she has not changed. This one is bordering on histrionic and bipolar disorder, heavily sprinkled with delusions of grandeur. She is more concerned about manipulating the minds on the internet, that changing for the better. Someone who has been fraudulent since 2017 whatever got talent that she hosted, i can never forget. I haven't even added people whom i know that she duped of advert monies and blocked.

I've acted indifferent on this matter, but seeing this is absolute bullshit! Nobody should angry me.

    3. Don't mind all the mad people forming the defender of the universe. No one is talking about her dubious act again but want to tell the owner of the house how to react when someone is about to claim his sweat in his life time.
I no blame them, none of has a ever made money enough to build a lock up shop.

I didn't even read his post past the first paragraph. Someone committed a crime and one writer somewhere is being sentimental about it.

Mr writer, I put it to you that you're part of the problem of this country.

  34. Oh spare me this one-sided and sentiments filled write up of yours .So, because she's a female the man should look on till she wrecks havoc ? She went back into the same house to repeat what she initially got a warn for. For all I know ,she trespassed, committed forgery .Infact the man is lenient.

    ReplyDelete
  35. That one is their business. I have no pity whatsoever for the blessing.

If u want to show off your personal properties, pls do so by all means possible. But to claim someone else's property so boldly not once but twice then you are a thief and you probably do worst things privately.

She's lucky it's only humiliation she faced and not cooling off in a cell right now. Rubbish!!!

She's suicidal my foot! What about the people that she could push to depression by her own posts. Did she think about them?

    ReplyDelete
  36. In a sane country, blessing will be sued for trespassing ,trauma(the man flew from china because of her) and other legal terms. She was still claiming to be the owner after the man sent a voice note. Why do you think people write"This house is not for sale"on their property?its because of people like blessing fagidijaiye. She is not remorse ,she's only crying because she was busted.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Defence of property is an exception to right to life. Yes, I'm saying he could have shot her head off. The madness that sent this Nkiru packing from her husband's house has surfaced again. She is still making videos. Na until she sell the guy house he for react abi?

  38. This write-up is excellent. The part that really did it for me is the time spent by the writer in trying to educate the readers on the laws of the land and how a civilised society should behave. This write-up is from a Nigerian that is well exposed, refined and indeed brilliant. Three gbosas to him. Unfortunately an average Nigerian that has access to the internet would refuse the type of education he is striving so hard to give. Any wonder they are oppressed daily by our leaders. As far as they are concerned the lady ought to face the firing squad for claiming to own a house that is not hers. In a civilised society, an officer of the law will invite her for questioning. By the time she arrives, a phycologist or relevant medical personnel will be amongst the panel questioning her.Even though she is a well known blogger, her state of mind would be looked into. The fact that she is even threatening suicide makes me believe she might be depressed or she might have issues that is making her flip and social media is her only therapy which should not be. The lady may not be living a fake life as some people think but needs urgent help. Is she suffering from hallucinations? A civilised society which we are not will get to the root of Blessing's behaviour. President Trump is right when he said we are a shithole country. That is why we have shithole comments justifying the way Blessing was treated. Many including myself believe what she did was wrong. A civilised country will apply the rule of law in dealing with the offence. Not jungle justice. When Human rights organisations say we are the worst country when it comes to human rights, we will begin to shout. But they are right. We have no respect for human dignity.l believe the cost of data is extremely cheap in this country. We can have less thrash posted if something is done about this.Access to data should not be for every Tom. Dick and Harry.

  42. Stella a society that cannot give justice descends into anarchy and self help. The rise of jungle justice in Nigeria is as a result of the failure of our leadership and institutions to provide this for the regular folk. It will continue so long as we have failed institutions.
