The arrest was carried out at the weekend when officers of the command stormed an initiation hideout of the group, as part of the command’s war against cultism and other violent crimes.
According to a statement by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, men of the Ogijo Division got information about the hideout, while the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Muhammed Suleman Baba, was leading his men of Operation Puff Adder on routine patrol. He noted that the hideout is the group’s usual arena where they initiate new members, which was subsequently stormed and the three members arrested.
“The arrested cultists who have all confessed their membership of Eiye confraternity are: Olagboye Abidemi, 32 years; Olasemojo Michael, 28 years; and Wasiu Waheed, 23 years. Recovered from them are: one jack knife, one blood stained silver knife, one female pant tied with charms and other assorted charms,” he said.
Oyeyemi added that the Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, has ordered the transfer of the suspects to the Anti-kidnapping/cultists section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation.
