Cows Born In Uganda To Be Issued With Birth Certificates

The Ugandan Government has made it mandatory for farmers in the country, to get birth certificates for their cows.

Vincent Ssempijja, the country’s Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, announced this on Wednesday. The registration is part of requirements for food exportation to European countries.

“They want to know where the meat and crop products are coming from. They have been impounding and banning all consignments from Uganda if they find one box with issues.

“Farmers will be registered and their products, given barcodes so that if they find a problem with one box, they look for the source and sort out the problem. We cannot enter lucrative markets unless farmers register.

“For cattle farmers, it is going to be worse. You will be registered as a farmer, the cow will be registered, numbered and will have a birth certificate because the importers of our products demand meat for cows aged between 15 to 24 months. So we are going to sell the meat depending on their age,” Ssempijja said at the official opening of the National Agricultural Show in Jinja, Southern Uganda.

  2. This is a good initiative. While many Nigerians will read this and laugh....this is a common requirement in developed countries. Cows....Horses have their own passport. Yes...you heard that right...they have passport same way humans do. This helps tracking and ensure that your cow comes from a sustainable source free of disease.

If only Buhari and our legislative arms will come up..with something like this...instead of the dumb RUGA initiative.

  9. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ with that, they can export anywhere. This is what our country should be thinking about rather than dashing herdsmen land in every state

  11. Its really a good idea. In Europe, if there's a fault with a particular farm product, it could easily be traced back to its origin rather than blacklisting the entire produce. Really commendable
