Senator Ike Ekweremadu Responds To Being Chased Around Like A Chicken In Germany By Angry Biafrans

Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu was attacked by suspected Biafra agitators in Nurnberg,German on Saturday at an event to celebrate the New yam Festival.....

Ekweremadu was reportedly dragged around and stoned with different objects, around the venue of the event bur was lucky to be whisked away in a car, after several attempts to stop him from escaping.

HIS RESPONSE
Former Deputy President of the Nigeria Senate, Ike Ekweremadu has reacted to the attack on him by some suspected members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, in Nuremberg, Germany.

The Senator, who gave the account of the event on his social media handle, @iamekweremdu, however, assured Ndigbo and his supporters across the nation that he was safe.

Narrating the incident, Ekweremadu said: “I attended the Second Annual Cultural Festival and Convention organised by Ndi-Igbo Germany in Nurnberg today where I was billed to give a keynote address along with the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, who, however could not make it eventually.

“I was given a resounding welcome by Ndigbo in Germany and everything went smoothly until some men, who identified themselves as IPOB members stormed the venue and began to complain about the killings in the South East, stressing that there would be no Igbo event at the venue.

“I tried to engage them, but when they became unruly, I had to leave the venue. The organisers also invited the police and I was accompanied out of the venue.

“Much as I am disappointed in their conduct, especially as I am one of the persons, who have spoken up on justice for Ndigbo, the Python Dance, judicial killings in Igbo land and elsewhere both on the floor of the Senate and in my written and personal engagements with the Presidency and the media as well as rallied the South East Senate Caucus to secure Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release with Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe taking him on bail to douse tension in the South East, I nevertheless do not hold this to heart against them, for they know not what they do.

“I have received thousands of solidarity calls and messages from well meaning Ndigbo. I want to assure them that I am hail and hearty. I have also spoken with the Nigerian Ambassador to Germany, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar”.

*Not had to leave, you ran out of the venue practically..Oga na God save you...Please make peace with your people..

    3. All of them involved in that treachery against their own will pay for it dearly in one way or the other. The principal target was even Chief John Nnia Nwodo who was billed to be in attendance as one of the keynote speakers. I guess wherever he is now, he will be singing some praise, telling people how the holy spirit ministered to him to boycott the celebration. Fathers who said their children won't rest, will be denied sleep as well.

    4. Ms. A please speak with facts. Rochas can never be better than Ekweremadu. There are lots of development brought by Ekweremadu in the Eastern region which are verifiable. Your dislike for someone doesn't mean truth should be subverted. I can name over ten projects if you still insist he has done nothing. The only grouse this people hold against him are the roles he played during the python dance and proscription saga.

    5. look this is exactly the reason why Biafra cannot stand it's not like there are noIgbos out there that want a sovereign state but it takes more than a name to make a country. The Igbos are not a united people we cheat each other, we kill each other abroad we prison each other. This is where it gets mental we do these things unintentionally out of ignorance in my opinion. Igbos are one of the most educated tribe we have in nigeria second to none in my opinion but education without morals or ethics is like a blind man leading a deaf man. let us get our values and priorities right first. Nigeria those not need another civil war.? we are not the only country in the world that has suffered civil war eg: United States of America after their civil war in 1861 do you hear anybody or group asking to divide the country again? no! the war has ended and that's all. They stay united and be it as it may this war was fought by the north and the south over enslavement of black people can you just imagine another race were killing themselves for the right of another race which Nigerian Igbo man can do this. finally there is no such thing as race the difference between men is knowledge vs ignorance.

    7. @Nelly, I doubt you live in Nigeria. After the war ended what happened?

Let me quote you Chimamanda Adichie words on the Nigeria/ Biafra situation.

“I think we should have a sort of Truth and Reconciliation Committee in this country, not just to address Biafra, which should be a central part of it, because it is impossible to understand Nigeria without understanding her history from around 1965 to 1970.”

“For Nigeria to thrive as a nation, we have to acknowledge the truth. In Asaba for instance, brutal massacres happened during the war and not yet acknowledged and so a lot still needs to be done, let us just air our history, sometimes all people need to hear is sorry.

"There are houses in Port Harcourt today that were named abandoned properties and were illegally taken from their owners. There were people who lost everything they owned and just given a tiny amount to start all over. That is injustice that has not been addressed,” she said.

“Acknowledging our history does not mean we will have to divide Nigeria AND dissent does not mean treason."

    8. Ms A, This is Senator Ike Ekwerenmadu former deputy Senate President , a sitting Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the highest ranking Igbo man in the political class in the country , receiving serious beating from his fellow Igbos ( IPOB ) brothers like this yesterday when he attended the second annual cultural festival and convention" organized by Ndi-Igbo in GERMANY . This is a big disgrace to no other region in Nigeria rather than the entire igbo nation and it is very clear that Unity is not anywhere close to the midst of the Igbo extraction in Nigeria . No matter what the situations may look like in the Southwest NIGERIA , YORUBAS in diaspora will never even do this to Femi Fani Kayode FFK who they know he's a traitor in their region. YES " there is culture in Yoruba land and am proud to be a Yoruba man .

    11. Anon 10:18 While it's true that the Igbo are not as united as some like to pretend, it's not in the nature of an Igbo person to forgive and forget treachery. There is a way we treat traitors and it is never pretty. We don't learn it, we're not taught, maybe it's in the water we're given. Maybe it's our blood. I don't know what is obtainable in Yorubaland but Igboland bleeds whenever we tolerate traitors so unless something has gone seriously wrong, it's not our practice to reward traitors by making them statesmen.

  2. “What happened to my friend and brother Sen. Ike Ekweremadu in Nuremberg, Germany at the hands of IPOB is an eye-opener and clear signal to every political leader in southern Nigeria!

“The people of the south are getting angry and you either stand up and defend them or stand aside!”~ Femi Fani Kayode.

“Imagine, people are dying on a daily basis, people are wailing on a daily basis and we are here enjoying.” ~ One of the attackers
    ________________________________

I frown at the direct assault on the person of Ike Ekweremadu, but won't fail to register my displeasure over how this Igbo politicians have acted so far in matters affecting the region.  He was the Deputy Senate President when Biafrans were labelled terrorist including him by extension, for he is a Biafran by birth or do they think Biafrans are just the people agitating currently?. What did he do with his position? Nothing......

Ekweremadu, eastern governors and Ohaneze ndi Igbo initiated for the onslaught brought upon the peaceful eastern regions in the guise of Python dance. The east became a war zone that almost thirty armour tankers were deployed and bomber jets hovering the sky. So many youths lost their lives in that single act and what did they do? Nothing.

Didn't Buhari stood for Boko Haram when Jonathan and Ihejirika was at the point of wiping the insurgent away? Buhari boldly stated that an attack on Boko Haram is an attack on the north. Or do they think we have all forgotten that?

How many times did you get to see or read that northern governors or even south west governors invite military to kill their people? Or aren't there unrest in Kaduna, Nassarawa, plateau? Sometimes in Ogun and Lagos state as well. Have you ever seen northern governors unanimously reading a communique proscribing their own people like you guys did at Enugu?

In matter like this at that time, we look up to no one but you (Ekweremadu, Ohaneze & Eastern Governors) but you were all silent. Silence speaks only but one language, BETRAYAL. Yes you betrayed the trust entrusted on you and your fellow conspirators.

What is the point of celebrating new yam festival in a foreign land when our farms are been destroyed, mothers and daughters raped, our people killed on daily basis. Our land ravaged by marauding herdsmen from the Fulani extraction. Didn't we buried two Catholic priest at Enugu recently? If all our farms are allowed to be destroyed by these cattle breeders, which yam will you harvest to celebrate your festival with?

    2. First, I share your view that corrupt politicians should be answerable for their wrong-doings. Unfortunately, the IPOB behavior is so crude, archaic and barbaric! without an iota of civilization too.

In this modern day and time, where the goal of reasonable countries is to strengthen policing and judicial systems for efficient and effective delivery of justice...Unsurprisingly, it's the same method of extra-judicial killings/assassination of top Northern and South-western politicians that the East applied in the 1960s as a resolution of their grievances .

Apparently, the East initiated and organized the first bloody military coup in Nigeria. What happened to civil ways of resolution? The aftermath was bloody, and we're yet to heal completely from the past sorrows. When the East talks of the mass killing of their people, they always fail to mention their atrocities that started the whole thing!

Perhaps, if the East had been civil in their approach, there won't have been the civil war, and some hatred that exists today would have been avoided.

There's only tribe major in Nigeria that has never initiated a military coup. Every good student of history knows the answer. We're not cowards; we have preference for civil ways of getting results.

We understand that history cannot be erased.

      Cheers!!!!

    3. Will killing the elders bring biafra on a platter?

      Delete
    4. 9:55 You're right that you've never initiated a military coup. That's because you don't need to; you just knock people's heads together, watch them decimate each other, then you claim to want to broker peace with "civil conversation" and take the spoils of the war you actually caused as a reward for "attempting civil discourse". Treachery 101. You even do it to your own selves in your families. Until the Holy Spirit Himself is sitting on you, you folk are as naturally treacherous as an Igbo person is naturally vengeful. If you look at Igbos, we know we're crazy but treachery is what we don't forgive - why do you think the average Igbo person has a problem with a person from Mba 5? They're treacherous but they call it having sense. Plus you lot are as weak as an Igbo person is reckless - so how can you possibly initiate a coup?

So because there are killings and unfortunate happenings in the south east, ekewremadu should pay for it? haba!!

When I saw the video I thought they were fighting him for not providing basic amenities in his constituency which I was so happy about until I watched channels and AIT.

You can’t get anything through violence in this administration! This is not president Jonathan, make your protests and points peacefully as long as you can! This is the same reason there was python dance in the east.

I thought the various campaign which we should be hearing now is revolution and restructuring! Not beating up your own kinsman because of an agitation which was started by a man who has disappeared!!

If it’s like that, the north and south west should have called their leaders, do you know the number of killings that happens along Abuja-kaduna, even the express way that leads to akure.
Northerners are the poorest too( although they are sometimes dumb because once their person is in power that solves their problem and poverty continues after elections).

    2. Sorry to disappoint you, that man you said disappeared didn't disappear. He is touring the world forming allies. Didn't they labelled him terrorist? Why is he touring US and Europe without interference or being arrested by interpol? Didn't the Nigerian government declared him wanted? Can any of your criminal politicians tour the world like he is doing? Do you know how many times he has hit Britain heavily with his words? Yet he stays in London but haven't been arrested. This is a man controlling the largest mass movement on planet earth as attested by global news and has offices in over 88 countries in the world. Is such a man really a threat to you? If truly he is, then why aren't civilized countries going after his people? How many persons did you hear was shot yesterday at that event? By now if it was in Nigeria, I hope you know how many death we would have counted.

Do you know recently, BiafraAid just like USAID was launched in US by this same man? Where is the terrorist charge against him? Do you know why the government became weak in his case? or didn't they threatened then that they will jail him in absentia? Seeing that civilized countries are associating with him is a big blow on the Nigerian judiciary system that hurriedly proscribed them.

      Good Morning Nigeria.

If you were a good student of history which I doubt you are, you would have known better that, the Igbo people have no leader or centralized government. This was the reason the colonial master found it difficult conquering them at first. They captured the North and West easily. So it won't be a thing of surprise if the teeming Yoruba people can't hold Bola Tinubu and his likes accountable for their actions. We are Igbos and we fight our oppressors not minding if they are our own people.

Didn't APC promise restructuring before 2015? what happened? Didn't you hear or read El Rufai saying zoning should be abolished or rather there will be no zoning, so that the north will continue holding unto power. I do not care about Nnamdi Kanu's campaign and approach however, the leaders of the country should realise they have created a huge problem for upcoming generations.
      No infrastructure, no institutions.
Parents make provisions and plan for their children, not being wasteful or creating enmity among them.

In 10 years or less, these leaders would go to their final resting places, leaving a huge mess - tribal tensions, violence and a deplorable economy.

With all this, would there be a country in future?

A righteous man leaves an inheritance for his children's children.
CERTAINLY NOT NIGERIAN LEADERS! The same leaders send their own children to USA and UK where the founding fathers left lasting legacies - infrastructures and sound
      efficient institutions for their citizens.

For all those that are passionate about tribal arguments and name-calling, which country do they hope for?
If you all don't make conscious effort to build a a great country where everyone's human rights and needs count regardless of tribe, religion or language, better know there would be no country.
Nigerians are very passive about their country's state of affairs by "leaving it to God", hoping it would be better by mere wishful thinking.

    6. Anon 13:23, don't mind the gullible fellow. Britain you and I knows very well their atrocities and what they are capable of doing. Maybe he sees them as infallible. Now, I understand better that the pervading ignorance, decay, couple with the abysmal performance and collapse of the Nigerian educational system is more monumental than I earlier thought to be. Nigeria is finished.

    7. @12;27 you are so GULLIBLE and IGNORANT for that comment about the British never distorting history and facts.
Your own colonial mentality is colossal and has permeated your genes. I hope it remains recessive and you don't pass it on.

  12. Cry me a river. Talk all you want. Ekweremadu chop slap mean say he chop slap. It cannot be wished away. Before any of them go go jamboree for jand again, they must first of all ask questions.

  13. Funnily enough, every other tribes are now advising or speaking up on how we should treat our elders or condemning the act. The Yoruba people should talk to themselves and see how they get Sowore one of their own freed from incarceration and leave us alone on how we have decided to treat our own who failed to protect us.

I bet you, this kind of treatment can't be melted on Senator Enyinnanya Abaribe if he travels to US, UK, Spain or Germany. IPOB knows those they are after, those who brought war to them and feign ignorance of the situation of things on ground.

To even make matter worse, Ekweremadu wore a cloth with Nigeria coat of arm than the usual ishi agu others wore in a supposed cultural festival. Who knows if that was the reason it was tore. Believe me, what you saw happened to Ekweremadu will be replicated to others on the list whenever they travel outside Nigeria where the law works. The likes of Orji Uzor Kalu who boldly stated that he brought RUGA in Abia State, would have to explain what he meant by that when he get over there.

    2. Peter obi can never be humiliated like this. Our leaders can not destroy our country and then jet out to cool off in developed countries.
Once again, I applaud these people's action and the moment our leaders are being attacked like this in other countries, then they will seat their asses down and do what they were voted to do. Next person should be tinubu, ajimobi, bello or gandjude or ikepazu

  14. @TEEJAY have vex,I swear bomd dey your head. However I concur with your opinion on the treatment metted out to Sen Ike Ekweremmadu in Germany and believe it's a lesson for the rest of our politicians thinking that they are untouchable in Nigeria. I would also advise the docile anonymous bus spewing trash should go back to their fathers and ask questions.

  15. Anons 12:05 You're just being delusional. She blanketed a whole tribe and your dumb brain failed to understand that. Must she in her petty mind tribalise it? You lack comprehension to have said she was talking about Igbos beefing themselves. To say Igbos are cancerous is another example of you having the kind of petty brain and mind like the madam you are using to cover your idiocy. Won't go low with in insulting your tribe. Folks like you watch Tele Mundo 24/7 and still believe Bill Clinton is still the US president if not for android phone

    5. Anony 15:03 and 17:27 your type is the reason why Nigeria would not move forward with your PROVINCIAL reasoning.
You could not make any meaningful contribution to the issue at hand other than calling another tribe names.
If you allow yourself to think, it would surprise you that what is really 'cancerous' is tribalism.

Why be bitter against any group of people?
When you get to the hospital, do you object to a doctor from other tribes treating your ailment. Same goes for the lecturers that taught you and the pilots that fly the aircraft you board to travel?

Tribalism is a disease of a malfunctioning brain.

  16. Hold your governors accountable, they are the one close to the people but you all direct your anger and hatred to the government at the center.
I feel for that man, I don't think he deserved such treatment from his own kinsmen.
If you guys are that angry, take it to the grassroots and state level.
