DeleteYou would be shocked at the price of the shirt or footwear when you can get a fraction of that abroad. If someone in Nigeria wants to make that footwear for you, you would hear 15-20k. While you can get same for 6-10k abroad and its quality.
DeleteWe have identified one of them o,when you buy foreign you actually create jobs for the people there.
DeleteEven though we cant totally do without the foreign things but let it be moderate,so we too can create jobs here.

DeleteNow let me relate my experience with a made in Nigeria chocolate purchased at ShopRite some weeks ago.

Sister: Don't waste your money o!
Me: Buy Naija to grow Naija!
Sister: (side eyes) I don talk my own o.
Me: (Picked up the chocolate and paid for it at the counter. Found a place to relish my chocolate) Arrghhh! Kileleyi?! (What is this?!)
Sister: Lol! Please find someone to dash.
Me: How can I gift this to anyone? (Found the nearest dumpsite and trashed it)
In as much as I am a firm believer in the Nigerian project, I think we need to start encouraging producers and artisans to strive for the best. I won't waste my money on sentiments o! I will only go for quality. I don't have excess money enough to waste on low quality goods.
Nigeria Government is the cause. No light, no road, lack of raw materia etc, this is a very big constraints to the local producers.

ReplyDeleteHow are these made in Nigeria? They are sown in Nigeria, the materials were imported . Nigeria doesn’t have textiles any longer. You would go for aso oke if you truly want to wear made in Nigeria. Even the roll of cotton for aso oke are imported
