Buhari Dispatches Special Envoy To South Africa Over Xenophobic Attacks

President Muhammadu Buhari has noted with deep concern, reported attacks on Nigerian citizens and property in South Africa since August 29, 2019.

Consequently, the President has instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, to summon the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria and get a brief on the situation; express Nigeria’s displeasure over the treatment of her citizens; and assurance of the safety of their lives and property.

President Buhari has also despatched a Special Envoy to convey to President Cyril Ramaphosa his concerns and also interact with his South African counterpart on the situation.

The Special Envoy is expected to arrive in Pretoria latest Thursday, September 5, 2019..

*What happened to speaking on the phone with the South African President and why Thursday? Why not immediately?Nigerian govt is too slow to react and are even only doing so because of the uproar.....hiss!!

    1. Hehehehehe @Nigeria cows. The majority of people being killed are Igbos so I am not surprised at his body language and actions. Why can't he go there himself?

    2. But why are South people like this eg AKAWORLD

  2. This attack started on the 29th of August. "Envoy" sent on the 3rd of September, to arrive 5th. A 6hr trip? What is wrong with us as a country? This is the highest form of insensitivity. Worst we've had. GEJ had a better approach, OBJ had a better approach, let me not even talk bout Abacha. At this point, only God can save us.
Watched Ghana president speak out and ours was by his side like his aide. Has it gotten this bad?
Little wonder people are using the opportunity to take laws into their hands.
I only hope Abike doesn't go there to start taking pictures posing and smiling with flag exchange

    1. And some will come out to say Buhari is the best thing that has ever happened to their generation..... amidst all the sufferings, insensitivities and hullabaloo that have engulfed the Nation.
      It is well!

    2. Dear Survivor, you can't find the minions on this post.

He should have recalled the South African Ambassador and shut the embassy immediately this started so as to send a strong message, however, how would he do that since all our businesses here are majorly owned by foreigners especially S.A.

    1. Zambia has cancelled their football match with SA on Saturday because of the attacks, now that is how things should be done. If it was Nigeria they will still go ahead with the match and pretend everything is honky dory

  4. The Southern part of Nigeria are the major hit of this dastardly act. So I don't expect speedy action from a sectional cum religious bigot of a president. Good luck Jonathan almost brought SA to their kneels and they hurriedly begged for forgiveness during his tenure. Abacha or Obasanjo won't have acted in this manner we have seen Buhari acted over this matter. Obviously, a northerner wasn't involved neither was a cow, aturu killed. He only respond swiftly when a cow is being killed or a Fulani killed

    1. Teejay, please let us leave all this tribe talk. This is not the time for it. This division is what is hindering our progress as a nation. My own is they are killing Nigerians.

    2. Mr teejay, how did you know southerners are the major ones affected. Were u there? Stop saying what you don’t know from videos. At this point it doesn’t make sense to be tribalistic, the main point is Nigerians are being killed in SA. People like you are one of the reasons Nigeria is still like this.

    3. Let Teejay be! Say yours and keep moving..even a blind man knows the truth!

    4. TEEJAY is right. Government's response has regional or tribal coloration. Do northerners travel to live outside Nigeria? It's one thing for the murderous herdsmen to savagely kill and Bubu and his Daura cousins and relatives keep mute because the can falsely claim it to be internal affairs but when your citizens are being killed in a foreign land and there is no official response, incompetency and failure is the word.

    5. The response of the government has/is damaging the image of the country more than the news of the arrested 78 by FBI last week.

    6. Please, stop vouching for Abacha and Obasanjo. Abacha isn't here so we have no way of knowing what he would have done. As for Obasanjo, he stole from the Efiks and successfully got the Bakassi People displaced with his backyard deal that Donald Duke was too WEAK to stop. Don't come here and try to make OBJ out to be some kind of hero.

  6. It’s all about wasting money, like you said Stella why can’t Buhari talk to the SA president on the phone. Buhari loves anything to do with travelling and grovelling. I really can’t believe the way the country is being governed and it seems there is absolutely nothing we can do about it. Meanwhile our mates are in Hong Kong

  7. South Africans doing their own python dance on us. As our government kukuma no love us from beginning, I don't expect quick nor positive reactions ooo

  8. I doubt if any good thing can come out of this Buhari's government. The man has failed woefully .

  9. What if this crazy guy is right? What if Buhari is really dead and who we have is really an impostor while the aide is acting president?

  10. Why should Onyeama wait for the president's s directive before doing his job. Same old slowpokes.
Nigeria needs young Patriots, intelligent and radical representatives. We need help ASAP!

  11. Can someone give me reasons other than to pray and have faith to stand still, put my arm on my chest, gaze forward and pledg allegiance to green white green when national anthem is being played?

  12. Has anyone heard the voice of Abike Dabiri? Maybe her hands are broken and she can't tweet? Or maybe she doesn't have internet and PHCN has done her house strong tin so she hasn't been able to see or react to any of this since it started playing out at the end of August. Shameless woman.

I'm not sure what is to be achieved from celebrities posting long grammar on SM especially as some of them are renewing their DSTV subscription right now. But what's the worst that can happen if Nigeria sends South Africa, their ambassador and their businesses packing? I hear you when you talk about lost employment but what is in ShopRite that no Nigerian business already does or cannot replicate? Is it bread? Roasted abi rotisseri chicken? Cosmetics? There's no reason to destroy buildings and endanger life but in theory, can't tried and tested businesses take the place of ShopRite if they were to leave especially if the structure already exists?
