Mrs Dee's Corner -Obeying A Loved Ones Dying Wish

Is there any force binding between a dying loved one's wish and the promise of the family members? are there repercussions when those promises are reneged?

I've heard of a father insisting his children must not marry from a particular tribe and in the case of his death, the children married from that tribe and the marriage hit the rocks sooner than expected.

In my case, my father warned that none of his children should be sent to anybody's house as maid.

When my mum couldn't bear the suffering, she released us to people with the hope that they would at least train us in school but they never did and each time she had no choice but to bring us back home.

 In each instance, I kept wondering if my late father's words were at work or it was merely coincidence.

Some people are haunted by the words of a dying loved one after they break the promises.............
I dont know how many people believe in this or actually keep to their promises ....

  1. It happens. I am a witness. Dying people sees what we couldn't, that's why they insist you make that promise.

  2. The promise I keep is that of he that was dead but is alive;
    "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life."

    I believed him and I am saved today. He does not fail. The rest of promises are all made by and to man who can fail.
    Eccl. 9:5 5For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing. They have no further reward, because the memory of them is forgotten. 6Their love, their hate, and their envy have already vanished, and they will never again have a share in all that is done under the sun.…
    John 11:25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;

    So do you believe (in) him?

  3. To start with, I will say that one's word is a bond and should be honored. Even the Bible advises us not to make a hasty promise or decision. Again, there's power in a spoken words. So if one makes a promise and renege, there's always an effect to such action. You can call it spiritual or natural but it's real. This is the reason one need ample time to say yes or no in anything serious presented to them.

    Make no mistake about this, there's a repercussion for a broken promise most especially when it's done wilfully.

    1. @PhariseeJay
      Where are you quoting from this time around?

    2. There's sense in what you said @teejay... There's power in agreement. No wonder its writt en "can two walk together expect they are in agreement" the moment you agree, nod in support or say yes to the dying person wish then an agreement on that matter has been formed...its wise to say an agreement between two or more people is a strong bond, no wonder it takes deliverance to break or put an end to some forms of agreement. so we should be careful before saying Yes or agreeing to some wish yeah...

    3. Anon 13:29, check Acts 19:36, Eccl 5:2, Proverb 20:25 and Proverb 29:20.

  4. Some of these words of a dying person comes from their experience while living. They have seen it all and know the possible outcomes. Experience is the best practical knowledge anyone can learn, if you decide to otherwise you will still see what they have been warning you about. Just like a dying father telling his children not to run to any of his family member for help, he knows what he has been going through with them, if they did not help when he was alive, na when him die dem go help. If the children decides to disobey, their destinies may be used to buy soya from aboki. Aunty stella it's about experience.

  5. My dad before he died told my mum that he doesn't want a non-igbo speaking partner for any of his children.

    His word has influenced me Soo much, once you tell me you are not Igbo I wouldn't even waste time to tell you I'm not interested.

  6. In life he never walked through a neighboring clan to his house. He always said even in death, no one should carry him across that clan. He died and since the road through the clan was shorter than the detour, they decided to carry him through the clan. The ambulance broke down at the entrance to the clan. They tried all they could but the ambulance refused to start. When the ambulance driver heard a comment from the man's daughter to the effect that he never crossed that clan, the driver said that was the cause. Went to the coffin, apologized that he didn't know and promised to take the longer route. He kicked the ambulance and the ambulance that refused to start, started. He immediately reversed and took the longer route.

    1. I have a story more shocking than this but I don't think time will do me justice to type now. Maybe some other time I will share it.

    2. teejay share now or forever hold ur peace, when is a more appropriate time to share such?

    3. Wow
      They just communicated with the dead
      In disobedience to God's word.

  7. My uncle told his wife to bury him in their compound. But the wife took him to the burial ground. For a whole week, this old woman was beaten every single day with marks all over. On the 7th day, she went to exhume the body and brought the corpse back home to be buried. The beatings stopped

  8. Heard the children of a certain man, say their father never liked their spouses while he was alive n that he said he would take the spouses once he dies. Well,their father died n actually took the spouses a year after... They died during child birth... The babies survived... Both mothers died.

    1. That one na evil man.... or just coincidence! Your father said he’ll take both your wives and nobody called him out and rejected it. Nobody fasted to break the power of those words, nobody even remembered to get him to recant it before he breathed his last. You people are evil and the blood of those women will call you out. Why didn’t he take his own children?
