Nigeria’s Oldest Ex Inmate Dies Aged 101

Nigeria’s oldest prisoner and centenarian, Pa Celestine Egbohuche, who former Imo state Governor Rochas Okorocha recently granted state pardon, is dead.

Pa Celestine, who turned 101 last August, got his released on June 6, 2019, from Enugu Maximum Prison; where they confined he and his only son Paul for over 19 years through a non-governmental organisation, Global Society for Anti-Corruption.

The centenarian, hailed from Amachara-Owerre, Akokwa in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State; condemned to death along with his son, Paul, and another relation, now 87, for alleged murder of a kinsman.

But since his release, all appeals by the NGO to Imo State government for his only son taking care of him in the prison needed grant pardon to take care of him all proved abortive.

His only daughter Chisom, 24, took care of the centenarian; whose home was reportedly destroyed by those who accused him of murder.

The Regional Director, GSAC, Mrs Amaka Nweke, broke the news of the demise of Pa Celestine to newsmen on Saturday; said he died on Friday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Nweke said the Imo State Government had been informed and that all their appeals; to grant the son state pardon to take care of his father had not yielded any positive response.

  1. He died a free man no matter the situation. I don't know if he was guilty of the crime or not but I will say RIP papa.

  10. Hmmm!! Finally this evil man (Pa Celestine Egboluche NOT EGBOHUCHE) is dead. I hope he became a changed man before his demise. For those that do not know - this was a man that did evil in his community (my Mom's villa too). He supervised the butchering of his own brother (probably for rituals) by one of his sons and their hired herbalist. He was at the roadside to discourage passers-by from their curiousity on hearing the cries of the dying man. He was able to convince the passers-by to go on their businesses and not bother about what he claimed to be the shouts of two lovers enjoying themselves in the bush - while his son and their 'dibia' butchered his own brother and took the body parts they desired for ritual and covered it with palm-leaves after pouring acid on the innocent man's corpse (to avoid any odour and any eventual discovery of the his corpse).

Man is not God, so after many days of search for this innocent man, their sins found them out. He and his son were fortunate not to have been killed due to their evil deed. His roof was removed and his family chased out of the community. Even when one of his daughters died, the community refused them from bringing her corpse home for burial. They are permanently stuck in the city where they live.

Meanwhile, this quoted 101 years, is definitely a lie they cooked up to effect his pardon by our then governor - Owelle Rochas Okorocha- as he was claimed to be the oldest living man in my Mom's community. Even, this killer son is not his only, as written up here.

My prayer is that the innocent man's wife and kids find closure and set free from grudge and unforgiveness the situation would have put them into. I wonder why any human would even think of killing another FOR ANY REASON. God have mercy.

  11. Lest i forget; you can take my story to the bank. And may God continue to fight for Late Mr. Cyril Egboluche's wife and children as He (God) takes vengeance on his butchers and their supporters until they repent.
