Idris Elba Is Cutting Down On Social Media Usage Due To Depression

Popular British actor, Idris Elba, is trying to cut down on his use of social media because he gets so depressed by the instant access to world news.

Like most celebrities, the "The Wire" star can't get enough of the addictive nature of social media. According to the post on, the 47-year-old British actor is an active user of Twitter and Instagram but he finds world events saddening.
"I've been trying to wean myself off," the actor and DJ tells Fast Company magazine. "I used to post a lot more, but it's been putting me off lately. And Twitter's just not how I want to receive my news.

"I read the news aggregated on my iPad, but I can't check it constantly - I'm not proud of it, but it's true - because it makes me feel depressed."
Instead, Idris is weaning himself off of social media by clearing his head, saying: "I'll just sit in the dark, stare, and try not to do anything - just clear my mind and decompress."

The superstar says he only sleeps "four or five" hours a night, and he schedules his time in terms of projects rather than days or hours.
"I don't think in terms of minutes or hours or days or dates, especially because I'm traveling between time zones," he adds. "My home base is London, but I could be working anywhere around the world. I pretty much know my schedule for the whole year, and I think of it in terms of blocks of time, where each project is a block."

*Staying away from the social media is actually soul refreshing!!!

  1. But when I yarn am, na only arrows I go receive for my smooth 🤐🤐🤐
    Social mmebi dey spoil things.
Except you are such that your work is centered around there. But even at that
you have your leave and off days from work.
A lot of (Naija) girls do not want to tell themselves the truth.
2 Pet. 2:19 They promise them freedom, while they themselves
are slaves of depravity--for "people are slaves to whatever has mastered them."

The truth is that they are addicted, depressed but living fake lives.

    3. @17:23
Do you see stark nude ladies/people on Stella's blog?
Do you see sexual acts and perversions on stella's blog?
There is a dark side of social media that you seem not to
understand the havoc it wrecks on people's lives.

    4. Hypocritical bitch shut up. Bloody irritant...everything Naija girls. Sick fool. Which Christ are you representing? Sicko. Your type just irritate society with your mental health issues in the name of advice...smell off abeg...ewu

    5. Na truth the annon yarn. Stella's blog self na social media. That you choose to defend your being here "all the time" does not change the facts.Twitter, blogs, face book, instagram etc all na social media.

    6. ANG the irritant! I can’t even listen to ur preaching cos u are sinner that sins differently then go ahead to judge others and claim u are righteous.. fuck outta here nigga ! There is a fine line between social networking and wasting your life.

  4. People ask my why I hardy watch the news or leave my tv on CNN in the morning...You can’t stop the stream of negative news... that’s what sells, both the one that concerns you and the one wey no be your business you will just be absorbing all the negativity and later you wonder why you’re so unhappy.

  5. The pressure social media induces can most times be so overwhelming.

It's obvious Idris is an empath.

  6. When I see people like this fall into depression, I know that no body has it all and that one must be grateful for who God has made them be.

    1. Read again. There’s a difference between falling into depression and being depressed by negative news.
Negative news is depressing but that state isn’t chronic.

  7. That's why Only admire people never envy them because, everyone has something going on with them as far as you are living under the 🌞. I am Joe

  8. Truth is, if you are not smart about this social media usage, it will get you used up flat.
One shoe doesn't fit all here.

  10. I had to set limit time i spend online and it has been working for me.
