Governor Sanwo Olu Tears Down Fela's Statue To Ease The Flow Of Traffic....

The Government of Lagos State has pulled down the statue of Afrobeat legend, Fela, from Allen roundabout, Ikeja, two years after former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode commissioned it.

The monument was pulled down because it was located at one of the four roundabouts the administration identified as a major cause of gridlock in the state. The other roundabouts are at Ikotun, Lekki-Epe expressway and Maryland.

  1. Why tear it down when you can relocate it elsewhere? Waste of public funds

Well I don't live in Lagos, though I personally dislike destruction of art, maybe Lagosians can tell us if it is a good development or not.

  4. And how does a statue affect traffic?
Was the statue used to construct the round about? Nonsense

    1. They are trying to curb the traffic on that road by removing the round about and expanding the road more. I work at alausa and the traffic there is the only reason I don't drive to my office. I just take bike because you can spend hours just from alausa to allen( journey of 3 minutes)

  8. I don’t support tearing down of the statue but if you don’t move around in Lagos you will not understand how this traffic can affect practically everything in this city. I am very happy they have scattered that 2nd Lekki roundabout that Fashola used almost three plots of land to construct. The circumference alone eh.

Anything that can curb the traffic in Lagos I am all for it even if it means tearing down Government house join sef.

  10. Most of you on this blog are so myopic and don't read. U just come and vomit rubbish. That road is being redesigned from a roundabout to a t junction. How will that statue be there when construction is going on. It's like a total makeover.and who said another one cannot be put there or even the same one. It's only the base we see here in this picture. When u people comment have a meeting with your brains first and think. Next thing u all will vomit now is he hates fela

  11. Stella, that roundabout must go. Massive traffic around that area.
The Proposed Junction Improvement Layout - ALLEN JUNCTION.
    - Roundabout will be removed.
    - Dualization of Aromire road
    - Synchronization of Allen, Agidingbi, Kudirat Abiola traffic lights.
In line with the THEMES Agenda of the Governor

  12. Most of the people making comments about this, whilst refering to "our money" probably do not even pay any form of tax. You have to be a tax payer before you can refer to the state or any Government money as our money. some people have never paid any form of tax in their entire life, yet they want electricity, good roads, water, good schools, good public health service, yet they won't pay their tax, but expect a kind of miraculous provision. some also would say "what about the tax that is paid" yes by other people which is not enough, that is why yours is needed. Even in the western world, their tax is collection is not adequate enough.
