Adventures Of Oko Ashawo The Uber Driver - 5

Oko asawo has come again oooooh.....

It was 1am already and I didn't realize I'd slept off while waiting for requests from clients until I heard a gentle knock on the door of my car, which jolted me from sleep. It was a lady who needed shelter from the rain as it drizzled lightly. I asked her to come in and she sat in front with me.

We exchanged pleasantries and she told me her name is Gloria. She also said she knows that I am a cab man because she saw me park there regularly at the club. She then told me she will leave to continue with her hustle as soon as the rain subsides. I told her it’s okay and she reclined the seat to relax properly. We got talking about life in general, moving on from one topic to another. She sounded quite intelligent and was a good conversationalist too. We didn't even
realize when we had spent over an hour talking.

She opened up to me about the very beginning when she started her street life. She came from the Eastern part of the country to live with her Aunt who got her a job as a receptionist in a small company where she was paid 8,000 naira monthly. Eventually, her Aunt got married and moved away from their one room apartment to join her husband.

She was then left to take care of the bills, including house rent and feeding all by herself without support with her meagre salary. She could hardly cope with this and a friend of hers in the neighbourhood introduced her to a woman who owned a small bar. She worked there in the evenings after she had closed from work till 11pm including weekends but the owner of the place owed her for close to 3 months.

A girl she met at the bar convinced her that there's a better way to make money.

Gloria was lured into prostitution. On her very first night in the hotel room with her client, while the man was on the bed waiting for her to join him, she sat in a corner crying fully dressed. He then had a talk with her and having realized that it was her first time on the streets, he told her not to worry if she doesn't want to have s#x with him. In the morning, he handed her some money and asked her to go.

When she got home and counted the money, it was a whopping 10,000 naira. She was restless and thought about the fact that she earned more than her salary in just one night even without doing anything. That was the springboard that propelled her to go fully into prostitution but she came up with a plan.

Gloria is a beautiful young lady in her late twenties from a very poor background. She had lost her father at a tender age and the mother had
to cater for 7 children. They lived in an uncompleted building and it was hellish during the rainy season because of the leaking roofs. She told me she experienced poverty first hand and vowed to do anything that will take her out of it.

However, she never knew fate would lead her to street hustle. She talked about how some guys who were very dirty and smelly would sleep with her and all she would be praying for at such moments is quick ejaculation so that she could be free from the stench. At other times, she may follow a guy to his place and his
friends would join in sleeping with her and send her out with little or no money amongst other unpleasant experiences that she had.

After a while, she told me that somehow, she finds herself comfortable talking with me and will show me some things that are very personal to her. She brought out her phone from her bag and showed me a picture. It was an uncompleted bungalow that belongs to her and will be finishing the building in a
few months.

She also showed me her account balance with a defunct Bank with a balance of about 1.8million naira. I was shocked but didn’t show it. She proceeded to tell me that she will be quitting the streets in about 6 months and she had it all worked out.

This was the first time I'd be seeing a street girl with a clear thought-out plan with the money she made from sleeping around. I got a call around 4am for a pick-up and she left the car to continue hustling. We exchanged numbers and I promised to keep in touch. We saw each other a few more times after that night.

I called her about a year after and she was really excited to hear from me. She told me she lost her phone and contacts when she was robbed and was very glad to reconnect with me. She said she had good news for me too. She had left the streets and changed location to a State in the South where she has started business with the money she raised, which was a little over 2 million naira, has completed her house and rented it out. She also told me she was seeing someone and hoped to get married to him but he doesn't know anything about her past hence the reason why she relocated to a far place to start a new life.

It's been over 7 years now since the day I first met her and she's now
married with 2 children.

*Asawo dey for blood!!!..They dont ever stop!
I know an Asawo that got married to a rich man and i thought that God had answered her prayers but she moved up a notch higher to customers of her husbands class....anytime he is out of town, she does it for the money..I asked her why and she said i should carry my preaching and go and that ''The thing dey for blood,no asawo ever retires properly''

    1. Not true. People do change

    2. Ashewo doesn’t change but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. They should just not marry. Ashewos that marry are like undercover gay people. Why marry and put the next person in pain. Just stay fucking and don’t put commitment

    3. I don't agree. There are girls like Gloria who got into prostitution because of unfavourable circumstances and i sincerely wish them well.

Although i would advise all never to resort to prostitution. It looks desirable because it's quick money but it's rife with dangers not to talk of the backlash when people find out about your past.

    4. I strongly disagree. We once had one around our area then. She was always complaining, begging God to help her so she can stop. Omor, immediately e had the opportunity, she stopped without looking bck. It's been 4years now, she in the states now, with her husband.

  2. Oh Baba God, have mercy on Naija girls who prefer the nights to daytime. Who enter cars of strangers without any qualms. Who know that they are vulnerable yet subject themselves to danger in the quest of the things of this life.
Baba God please save them and protect them in Jesus name, Amen. 😢😢😢😢

  3. Some people are nymphomaniacs while some are just greedy and selfish. I believe the lady Stella mentioned belong in that category.

Those who do runs for a purpose can actually stop because they don't enjoy it. Some of those runs girls will happily walk away if given a way out.

  4. Hmmm Nawa @Stella comment. She will soon get herself in trouble.

  5. I would have believed this until I saw where she showed you her money, who does that?

  6. Well Jesus save Mary the Sister of Lazarus from prostitution and she lived a notable believer.
The only issue is that the girl in the story did not repent but want to get married.
The evil one never let his captives go free. Only Jesus can save from that. her past can catch up with her fast.

    2. Did we read the same story? The lady left her past behind, set up a legitimate business and got married. How do you know she hasn't repented of her sins? Assistant Jesus. You don't even know the difference between Mary Lazarus's sister and Mary Magdalene

    3. Luke 7:37 When a sinful woman from that town learned that Jesus was dining there, she brought an alabaster jar of perfume. 38As she stood behind Him at His feet weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears and wipe them with her hair. Then she kissed His feet and anointed them with the perfume.…

John 11:12 (This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.)

Have you 15:00/16:15 read those two Scriptures? Please read your New Testaments very well unu anugo? 😊😊😊😊

    6. JOHN 11:2 , you mean ?

JOHN 11:12 ...His disciple replied " Lord, If he sleeps, he will get better"

    7. @anon16:50, Mary, Lazarus's sister was never a prostitute o. She isn't the same woman in Luke 7:37. That woman rubbed Jesus feet when he was having a meal with a Pharisee. Mary, Lazarus's sister did so when Jesus was having a meal with her family and his disciples. Please study the Bible and know the difference

Thanks, let me paste it again
John 11:1 Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. 2(This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.)

  8. I've seen asewos who retired after they gave their lives to Jesus. One of them used to live in my area when I was a small girl. She went into prostitution due to poverty and turned a new leaf when God blessed her with a wonderful man. There's nothing God cannot do. The ones that truly seek God with genuine repentance never goes to the trade.

I've gone through the story again and no where did I see him mention anything concerning app. I only read somewhere where he said he got a call for a pick-up around 4am. I also drive on the Uber/Bolt platform and before then, I worked as a regular cab guy. These things to happen. We see a lot. Maybe you should go and write you own story🙄

    3. Some women went into prostitution not because of GREED
This lady up there had her plans and worked towards acheiving it

  21. Stella that sidenote you made is very WRONG! I'm talking from exprience as a matter of fact I can't stand any man coming close to me (apart from hubby)

  22. Oga please when was Uber and taxify established in Nigeria?

I’m asking because you said you have known the lady for seven years and you first met her when you were in your cab waiting for request? As at seven years ago?

Nice and entertaining story by the way but fictional
Not that I have any problem with that

    1. @ Anon 15:16,In those days, people requested for rides with phone calls. Also, some people placed Taxi signs on their cars for easy identification. if you were a regular user of cabs then, you would have had like 2 or 3 regular cabbies who took you out. Things have changed a bit these days because you can request through an app.I guess the contention here is the use of the word request. You can as well substitute that word in your mind with 'waiting for a call from his clients'

  28. Stella you are dead wrong! this lady tried working two jobs but was frustrated by non compliance on the part of the employer.being young, unguided and helpless, she saw it as a means to an end. she must have loafed the job thus making every penny count!her hatred for her profession gave her FOCUS AND DETERMINATION.those claiming she was greedy, you lot are as blind as bats!a greedy girl will never make judicious use of the funds because she can't even see herself letting go of the easy money.
