Footballer Mikel Obi’s Contract Terminated After He Refused To Play Over Fear Of COVID 19

John Obi Mikel’s contract with Trabzonspor has been terminated by mutual consent, the club has announced.

No reason was given for the mutual termination of the contract, but Trabzonspor confirmed the former Super Eagles captain gave up his remaining wages.

“The professional football player agreement between our company and John Obi Mikel on 30.06.2019 start date 31.05.2021 has been mutually terminated.
With a mutual termination agreement, the football player gave up all his forward-looking receivables,” the statement read.

Last weekend, Mikel Obi criticised Turkish football authorities, for not suspending the Super Lig season despite the spread of the coronavirus across Europe.

Mikel joined the Turkish club as a free agent on a two-year deal last summer.

The Nigerian then refused to come off the bench for their 1-1 draw with Istanbul Basaksehir.

  5. Oh no.. a lot of people in the abroad will lose their jobs due to this virus. Some companies are already laying off, while others are in hiring freeze. I saw a joke today that read

"Dear families in Africa, your relatives in the diaspora need you now as coronavirus has crippled economies in Europe and the Americas. We don't mind you sending us money. Thank you."

  6. Pls bros we Nigerian like so if oyobo say dem no wnt see u just books a ticket

  7. that is not the end of life.

  8. Lol the mind Mikel get only happens when you are sure you would get another job ....

  9. Look at what the virus is doing in Iran. He has a right to protect his life. No job should place workers in unsafe situations.

  10. Life is importantest mbok..but he made a mistake,he should know better! He could have just lied so he won't be present at the stadium at all..but he was with the team and even on the bench for substitute, then he was asked to come on and he refused? You don't do that cos you're under a contract

I knew he will be fired after that incident for bridge of contract

All the best in his future endeavors

    1. At least he must have saved for the rainy day. It's better to be extremely cautious than to wail later.

  11. He had always wanted to leave that club, he never liked it there

  12. Life is wealth dear Mikel

  13. Good for him, why be in the stadium when you know you wouldn't play.

Instead of him to fake stomach pain or something to avoid being on the lineup.

    Nonsense and ingredient

  14. Bro no mind oyibos, pls don't sacrifice your life because of a club knowing that their are many clubs that ll nid ur service after CORONA-VIRUS might have finished.
