Pastors,Church Offerings And The Coronavirus....

Why are people saying that Pastors are refusing to shut down services in their Churches because they do not want to lose out on the offerings?

There is a Pastor currently being bashed online because he reminded his Church members not to forget to drop their offerings Online...What exactly is wrong with the reminder?Giving is a personal choice, those who wanna give, will do so without noise..

Is the Church supposed to go down at this time? Some Churches have Charity organisations that are dependent on monies collected during Church services....

Please give if you have to give and stop bashing men of God ,God will Judge whoever is not a true Prophet and has been using his name in vain..He is God and he will Judge.

Argue without insulting or bashing anyone please cos i know this is a very sensitive topic.....

  1. Can someone name the charity organizations of the mega churches?
Okay, can someone name the names of (unaffordable) schools of the mega churches?

    2. No affordable school to their name or any known charity organization.
If he can encourage people at this time, he just need to shut up, instead of coming online to remind the mugu for due payment.
      Clients go wise now.

"a charity organisation" that you don't know its name is not a charity organisation.
Stop defending them, tell them the truth and let them do the right thing.

  2. I don't support him at all. The world is in chaos, and all he can remember is offerings? He didn't think of how to speak words of encouragement at least, or offer relief materials to the needy, he's only in what comes into his pocket.
This is one area of the Christian Church that makes me cringe

  4. I don't understand how one can tell people to pay tithe or drop offering now people are grappling to manage their resources. Is not time churches come together and plan how to buy relief and distribute to their members at this critical moment?

    1. A quick one though, I am still pondering, churches coming together and buying relief is bought with what money? Isn't it the tithes and offerings pulled together by the parishioners who have and any bussiness the church runs maybe from sales of anointing oil or something?
      I am just thinking o.
On a normal day ,not everyone pays tithes and offerings, so even the poor won't have paid prior to corona and during corona crisis. However the rich in the church cab afford to still pay their tithes and offerings in order for the church to use it in help the needy and sick in this trying period.
Nothing wrong in calling on those who have to remember to pay

The question should be," would they use the tithes to help the needy and sick in this trying times?"

Much as I agree that some so called pastors are after their bellies; however, to roundly condemn religion or the Church because of that is like saying schools and hospitals are scams because some of them are quack? Why is it that when it comes to church issues ppl suddenly forget their favourite phrase, 'judge not'. If na 'ashawo' mata na im everybody go remember say 'judge not' dey Bible. If una no wan pay tithe, jump and pass. Let those who are moved to pay, do so. The Church needs funds to run. Peace!

  11. They are just bunch of rippers.
Is this the right time for a pastor to be reminding people for tithe and offerings ? When people re losing their job and so many people are home doing nothing, it's sheer insensitivity from Mr Mathew.
He didn't come online to tell what he has in package as a relive effort for the people in need but want money to be sent to him through transfer.
How many of them have charity organization ? If they have, are they spending one tenth of what they are collecting on the charity or themselves.
I just know this Corona virus will open the eyes of the blind followers to know the true colors of these fake men of god.

  12. People are living in fear now. What people need is words of encouragement and not tithe reminders. He should use the ones collected before to keep the "charity organisation " moving. I'm sure his faithful members will pay the accumulated sum when everywhere is calm.

  13. I think the bashing came to the fore because a few other Pastors mentioned doing services online without the mention of offering. Though this particular Pastor said other things, the excerpt of the online giving was brought out and people concentrated on it to bash him.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Ok...playing devils advocate.
If the tithes and offerings have always been used to assist the sick ,elderly ,widowed and those who have no were to turn to, will it be wrong to ask people to continue giving?
Words of encouragement alone doesnt cut it though, let's say these tithes go in and the money is used to buy and get extra ventilators and provide food for those in isolation, would it be a bad thing to remind people to still pay knowingfully well the world needs each other right now?

The issue is not in the pastors reminding people not to forget tithing because when we scream and ask what the clergy doing ,we expect then to use these tithes and offerings to maintain the house of God ( by house I mean those who believe in God and were the gather to worship him).

The issue is rather a big question, "will the tithes go towards what you hope it should go for?".

We all should learn that when you also give out these things you expect those in charge to do right by it but when it leaves your hand you lack control of that.

My take there is nothing wrong with asking and nothing wrong with those who send it.

No one is coerced ,if you feel the church can't do right with your tithes, you personally should use the tithe in helping those is it designated to( we all know it is sometimes easier and far reaching if it is pulled together and hopefully reaches more that need it) and stay in your house and worship God. There is no point going to a church that you feel can't even be accountable with your contribution after all the seats, roofs and utility bill is being maintained by contributions of others.

Many people expect the church to be charitable but when its time for offering they put in their worst 20 naira note. To be candid if one were to give out just that 20naira to a person every Sunday, it will make no sense but if 20naira notes from many were pulled together ,it will make more sense for who ever gets it.
People put in pittance and expect millions as charity ,it honestly doesnt work that way.

That said, give if you have to, there is nothing wrong in reminding because I will pray for you won't put rice in the stomach of the sick and this is putting into cognizance that the tithes and offerings are channeled to help the sick and needy in this trying times.

    1. @Orela, what you've stated above is good. The truth is this, look at the life styles of all these pastors then you know that they've enriched themselves from tithe and offerings of the congregation. What they tell you is that God has blessed them. Blessed them how? Check out when they started preaching they don't have schools, hospitals and businesses then years later into their ministry, they own all these. How and where did the money to start this come from? Their answer is "God blessed them."

  16. I support Stellas point. A few years ago, I was going to school and my parents couldn’t afford it. I wrote a letter to my head pastor who is a popular pastor and his secretary called me the next day to give me a cheque for the full amount. This was not some chicken change o. He did this without even knowing or seeing me. It’s true that many of them use the funds to help people educationally, health wise and so on. So I think if you’re opportuned to give, please give and not discourage people from giving. It’s also another avenue of doing charity considering that they give most of the money out to people in need.

  18. well all i can say is that the church needs offering. The kingdom of God will move forward is not by saying it, money is needed to make it happen. If there are pastors that embezzle church offering that's their own but the truth remains that the church needs money

  19. Like Stella said, "it is YOUR CHOICE" but nevertheless we should be sensitive with what we say now...and having a little brain wouldn't hurt either! People are DYING all over the world, instead of remembering them to pay offering he could have told them to remember to pray for the sick, the helpless ,etc. Hmmn...all is well 🚶

  20. some pastors are only interested with offering and tithe.

Giving is a choice and not something you mandate people to do.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Stella, must we always be the one to give out? In this trying time, why can't those pastors give out to their registered members, all the monies we have been paying these years, they said charity begins at home. They should practice what they preach too.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Lol it’s funny tho. People keep saying if the pastors are using the money for their own good instead of helping, God alone would judge them but they should keep giving.
Quick one tho, when the government collect your tax and you don’t see them put the money to good use, don’t you call out your government? Yes the government will tell you they are doing this and doing that, cool and ok...but now when we actually need to see the evidence of what they have been using the tax money for, no one is really seeing it...instead it’s jack ma bringing rescue to us.
For me same goes to some of these pastors..let’s not forget they are just human too. I’m not saying al of them are bad, I’m saying this isn’t the time you ask for tithe.
They are the same people saying the world is about to end, yet they are still concerned about tithes rather than saving a soul?
    Nah Stellz. I don’t support.

I personally was a member of that church, I know a lot of members who suffer but still attend that church and pay partnership money in envelopes to this church but they can never help their members! Since there is a sit at home order most people don't have food to eat,na food first before drugs abi you go take medicine on empty stomach! Let them share food items to their members! I noticed one thing with churches no matter how much you give them, they can never be if help when you need them!

  24. The pastors of those church denominations could publish their annual audited financial statements FOR THEIR MEMBERS to show transparency.

That's how it's done in the Anglican Church I attended. I got my copy for 2019 when we held our Vestry meeting this February 2020. Everyone is allowed to ask questions, seek clarifications or give suggestions.

I attended a Pentocosal church for years where they keep records of thithers, givers and partners.
With these and the bank statements, churches and pastors could make themselves accountable and transparent to their members.
Using these records they would also know how to assist thithers and givers who experience a downturn in life and also the not so buoyant members.

The Bible charges us to bear one another's burden and also care for the least of our brethren.

May we be yielded to God's Word and the Holy Spirit in all things.

Remember 1Corinthians 13. You can give all your earthly goods and your body to be burnt but without love, it is of no profit.

It's not enough to pay tithe and give offerings then mouth off at those who speak against your beliefs or practice.
How then would your light shine to bring the unsaved to the knowledge of Christ?

If God give you brain and bless you with money but you don't know what to do with it, you are better off giving it to the church/pastor so that he can enjoy the money for you. Afterall if you know any better, you will not be handing over your sweat to another mortal under the guise of appeasing God. Help your unfortunate neighbours and you will be equally blessed.
