  1. In as much as what she did was morally inappropriate, I don't support people taking laws into their hands. It's a free market. There shouldn't be any price control.

  2. The truth is that most food consumed in Rivers State comes in from outside the State. Even fish and crayfish sellers buy from AkwaIbom/Bayelsa, Tomatoes/pepper/yam comes from the North, Beef/Goat same, beans, rice etc. Closing of the border hiked cost of food. So even if she produced the garri herself, she will need to buy other foodstuff. Other states closed their borders but left it open to foodstuffs. Rivers State didn't think it through. I even saw someone that bought same qty that initially sold for 500 for 2,000. How many will they destroy? They should open the border for foodstuff and automatically the prices will go down.

    1. This are stock that they already have. There was no need to hike prices. There is no control of price but when you know that trying to take advantage of situation will result in a loss they will be wary. Serves her right

  3. I don't even know how to feel about this. But greed is all shades of wrong. Like all shades but then wasting their sweat like that is also wrong.

  4. This country tire me....she is a thief for tripling the price of her garri but the disrespectful youths should have just left her. The garri is hers after all.

  5. if the price of Garri has gone up from the source due to increase in demand then it is espedient for the petty trader to increase her own price but from the previous price to the current price,i think the price is too much hence their anger

  6. why not,,am in support of this.

the problem of Nigeria is Nogerians,,why do we chose to kill ourselves with every oppprtunity?

what individuals are doing alo,e is worse than what the govt is doing

  9. I don't support them but those market people are very mean.
Even if you want to increase, 1000 naira margin is too much.
Imagine in my area half set of sachet water (purewater) now cost #800 as against #500.
The average Nigerian don't have enough savings for contingencies so why punish people by hiking prices.

  10. Someone's hard labour why throw it away.. if you can't afford it then quietly shift.. She's not the only garri seller in that market.

  11. Someone should please inform Gov Wike that both Corona and hunger are killers. He shouldn't exchange one for the other. Some people live from hand to mouth. They can't afford to buy anything in bulk because the money is just not there. Task force this and that, suspend this and that, mschew. Sounding like an emperor when his primary concern should be on both health and welfare of his people. It's not about fighting non indigenes. It goes round oh because it's an economic chain.

    1. When he said "People must be alive to eat" I said to my husband, doesn't he also know that people must eat to be alive? Nigerian rulers not leaders are the most greedy people on earth.

My prayer may corona virus come upon anyone who tries to steal money at this painful period.

  12. Some of these sellers can be so inconsiderate honestly. I don't support what they boys did though.

  13. Just imagine that. Nigerians take advantage of every little situation to make extra gains from the poor masses. It would have been good if they were selling at high prices to the politicians alone instead of being wicked to their fellow poor brothers and sisters.

  14. Her price hike was borne out of greed, but it doesn't justify theirs of throwing her wares away. The worst they could have done was to refuse to patronize her.

  15. Very much in support. This should also b done to the main wholesalers that are responsible for this hike.

These people are heartless. We are so concerned about alot of people that cant even afford to buy the garri in bulk to stock up at 500 n they r still increasing the prices.
So in essence they actually want the less privileged to die literally of hunger... serves them right. This will deter others from hiking their prices too.

I think the Govt should pass a law in that regard and have the task force monitor these food stuff sellers. Once you increase your price your foodstuffs should be given out to people free of charge n your shop locked up afterwards

  16. Good for the greedy market women! A time of pandemic is a time to be considerate and show mercy to others, but these greedy traders sees it as time for them swindle people off their money by hiking the price of their goods. Especially when the goods are essential commodity.

They should teach them a lesson. I don't feel sorry for these traders. Nigeria is a country where food items or all other things can be hike and the prices never returns to normal.

Look at how the federal government reduced the price of petroleum to 125₦, when the price should be far lesser than that.

  17. Is good. Stella you need to see what these wicked traders did in ph last week Friday. Making money out of people's sorrows. A lot of people wont be able to buy food with such wickedness. Other countries are given people who dont have but here is different. Complaining of govt when even the poor are also wicked to themselves. Govt should pay money to the people to manage this period and also regulate these wicked traders.

Ala adinma bu Uru ndinze even in the issue of life and death, yet we are calling on God to heal the land.

  23. I even bought the garri for 1700 during the panic buying in PH last Friday.

The price of foodstuffs have been so expensive in PH. Eva bottle of palmoil was sold for 1000-1200 on Friday and so on.
    God will help us.

  24. I hope all of you in support of this know that this woman didn’t process the garri herself. Most of these traders buy from wholesalers even, so if her cost price goes up, her selling price should too. Abi Na only you need to chop? She needs to feed her family too. You’d be shocked at the price she got the garri from her suppliers.

Blame the clueless gov who stopped all channels of food into the state without thinking of the repercussions.

  25. two wrongs cant make a right

  26. I do not support this mob action though the price hike from N500 to N1,500 is too high.

Some of you do not know what these market women go through (riding on rickety trucks & vans) to buy these food items from the wholesalers.

The State Governor, Mr. Wike took a poor decision in locking out food trucks from coming in. I thought Nigerians are experts in copying others. Couldn't he have copied the Western Countries or Governor Sanwolu of Lagos State?

Everything is not about fighting your opposition.
    Corona Virus is not APC.

This is not a political wit game. Jeez!

  27. Boycotting her would have been the best option, people think they can get rich at the expense of others.

  28. I thought they said it happened in Warri, not PH.

  29. This is so wrong, is her Garry. She will also buy rice and other things that has increased with that money. Is her choice. Artist collect million to sing rubbish and a woman that suffers under the sun wants to make extra cash n you did this. Pure wickedness

  30. That’s how they increased the prices of gloves in the market from 1200 to 7000. Now sick patients in the hospitals can’t afford it. I won’t give IV drugs with bare hands na. If you don’t bring na so I go dey look you and your drugs . In the long run , naija is filled with greedy people.
